  • @JaiKhalsa Where do you perform? I am on business in u.s. So if i might happen to be in the city, i would love to visit.

  • @pavanerbeck23: That's so lovely of you, thank you! Most of my performances are at private events, with the occasional exception of outings such as this one we filmed on the 3rd Street Promenade.... I'm mostly in Los Angeles, and sometimes in New York or DC/MD.

  • I have always been a fan of Bharathanatyam, seen a lot of masters perform, but your video is the one that inspired me to start learning this dance form :) Being an adult, I have to put in a lot of effort to get the flexibility and the speed, but seeing your love for the art form makes me want to learn it too! I live in Northern California, Hope our paths cross sometime and I get to see you perform in person! Good luck! Keep posting!

  • @archanaik: How wonderful! I am so honored and inspired by your words - thank you so much for sharing this with me. I look forward to seeing videos of your performances! All the best on your journey. Many blessings!

  • This shows dance & expressions have no country boundries.. Wonderful..

  • @surendrasajwan: Thank you so much for your support! (And I couldn't agree more!!) :)

  • wonder who is the singer of the song? No doubt great dance to go with.

  • @sathasiva1885: Not sure of the name of the vocalist, but I bet you could find out through a site that chronicles A.R. Rahman's career works... (and thanks for your kind words!)

  • may i know more about her!

  • @orchidjain: Sure! Name is Jai-Jagdeesh, born in the U.S., grew up in Northern India. Love music, love dance. I teach Kundalini yoga, and currently reside in Los Angeles. Hope that's enough. ;)

  • Great Effort!!! Bravo!

  • @jobsun2009: Thanks. :)

  • Very nice :) Perfect hand movements!

  • @pacchayogi: Thank you! Always room for improvement, but I appreciate that very much. :)

  • WONDERFUL!!! hi, i´m a Henna-artist from germany. do you have a facebook page ore upload more wideos soon *W* ?

  • @20centuryBOY1: Hi to you in Germany! I do have a Facebook page, but right now it's only for my music. However, it will eventually include my dance career - and yes, I'll get new videos on there/here soon! If you do a FB search for "Jai-Jagdeesh", you will find it. Thanks so much for your support!!

  • Excellent performance...your hand gestures are graceful, when compared to usual Bharathanatyam- trained foreigners. You should work on facial expressions.(exaggerate your expressions a li'l bit). You got your basics correct, but the choreography is very simple.

  • @XXXMuSiCMAnIaXXXI: Thank you for your support and for your feedback - I always appreciate constructive criticism. Totally agree with you, too; I tend to hold back on the facial expressions, not wanting to overdo it... but of course the exaggeration is a part of the aesthetic, not to mention the stage presence. And yes, this choreography is very simple - it's actually the very first classical piece I ever choreographed, about 10 years ago now. Perhaps time to revisit it...!

  • excellent performance

  • @1981aaaaaaaaaa: Thanks!!

  • Sorry, but that just looks awful. A beginner, obviously, not yet quite ready to perform in public. Cultural appropriation alert!

  • @sree14: Everyone is entitled to their opinion; thanks for sharing yours. All the best to you.

  • very graceful. Maa Saraswati ki kripa !

  • @Perihelion99: Thank you very much!!

  • Watch this video you will get more ideas. Watch this video in youtube: Padmini & Vyjayanthimala's classic Tamil dance-off (HQ)

  • @pathfinder433: Thanks for the recommendation!

  • awesome performance.. you are perfect..

i love your performance from bottom of my heart.. keep going.. keep posting all your classical performances.

  • @misssushumna: That's incredibly kind of you, thank you so much. I will post more as soon as I can!

  • very good choreography simple and sweet... but the dancer could have been more flexible..... :)

  • @MsSneha2: Always room for improvement... Thanks for your feedback. :)

  • Robotic moves ...Grace is missing ...Sorry:(

  • @dasikapraveen: No need to apologize; everyone's entitled to their opinion! Thanks for sharing yours. :)

  • Wow...

  • @badakonk: Thanks. :)

  • This is absolutely amazing =D You should upload a video about yourself and how you learnt bharatnatyam.....You're very inspiring!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @chellappan2010: How kind of you, thanks so much. And that's a good idea - I probably should! Will work on something. Thanks for the suggestion!

  • @vijayannan6: Yes! Indeed! :)

  • very good..

  • @6helium: Thanks. :)

  • Wow. Nice. Keep it up. I am impressed and so I recommended my friends also to watch. But I want to know what made you to take interest in indian classical dance? By the way, are you a hindu?

  • @SathyaACC: Thank you! I appreciate the support so much. In answer to your questions: I was born a Sikh, and I grew up in India, which sparked my interest in ALL things Indian... I started out with Bollywood fun, and then, as soon as I lived in the South, began studying Bharathanatyam.

  • Appreciated GIRL WONDERFUL

  • @sandydesert007: Thank you!!

  • Greetings all the way from India. This is a divine dance form and your are making it more divine. Clean expressions for each of the words , perfect tapping of the salangai to the beat. We have a doubt , You must be knowing "tamil" ? right ?

  • @hiphoptamizha: Thanks so much for your kind words! To answer your question, no, I don't know Tamil. I do speak Hindi, but I have not learned any of the South Indian languages. However, I had a friend translate this song for me before I did any choreography... so, thanks to that, I do understand the lyrics.

  • wow she is really awesome, the perfect moves and the expression were all mind blowing... what a girl!!!!!!!!!

  • @nareshchandru: Such kind words - thank you so much! Many blessings to you!

  • @tamilvengai :)

  • @nat4vid :)

  • I watched this again tonight and I am sharing it on FB. Super Like!

Are you gonna do a show in the east sometime? I live in Columbia MD and i would love to see you on stage if you ever visit this side of the world.

  • @djohnjimmy: You're so sweet - thanks for spreading the word! :)

My family actually lives not too far from you - in Virginia - and, when I lived there, I performed in and around DC a lot, including Maryland. I still have performance partners there... I'll be sure to let you know the next time I'm in the area for a show.

  • @just4f4: Thank you very much!! I appreciate it! Many blessings. :)

  • Yes, I agree you are lucky, make full use of it to communicate and influence and motivate others to see and learn what you have. Thank you for your videos, I enjoyed them very much. Keep up the good work and enjoy it.

  • @RonAlmeida :)

  • Nice. Keep up the good work.

  • @leonkevin: Thanks!

  • Oh my lord, that was a simply magnificent performance! You've completely nailed not only the steps but also the facial expressions - hats off!

And on a separate topic, there are at least 17 idiots on Youtube - referring to those who disliked the video.

  • @denmak: Thank you for such kind words of support! And don't worry about the 17 dislikes - I certainly don't! ;)

  • VERY NICE

  • @kanatraj: Thank you!

  • wonderfull awesome

  • @godwingladison: Thanks very much!

  • Yes.This is a composition of Oothakudi Subbiah Iyer tuned to Kaanada Raag.

  • @chikka1970: You are absolutely right. I was unaware of this when we posted the video - more accurately, I didn't do my research. Wish I'd known. Thanks for the correction!

  • Wonderful performance. Have you danced to Thyagaraja Pancharatna 'Jagadodhdharana' ? If so, please upload.

  • @pcermomb : Thank you so much! And no, I haven't danced to Jagadodhdharana. I'd love to see a performance of it - let me know if there's one I can find on YouTube.

  • What a great performance. Keep up the good work.

  • @xstlvr62: Thanks so much!! I'll do my best! :)

  • Beautifully done...you are indeed a great performer ..love you..all the best.

  • @sks4hpd: Thank you, and much love to you too!

  • its amazinggg....keep it up...

    kutti hari

  • @tamilunique: Thanks, thanks, and more thanks!

  • Ohhh look at those people just walking by, ignorant and stupid. It takes more than 10 years to perfect this form of art, which was beautifully done by this lady - the least you can do it WATCH her dance for 3 mins, and maybe clap?

People nowadays are just too self centered.

  • @jondow14

was thinking on same lines when i was watching the video..

  • @samarthsanthosh: Thanks for your sweet sentiment in there... :)

  • @jondow14 Buddy .... ppl dint responded.....it dint mean they r nt ignorant r stupid......

  • @sudhakarrd9: I agree; everyone's got different taste, and maybe they just weren't interested... I don't hold it against anyone. We share our art regardless of the audience, right? :)

  • @jondow14: Thank you for your kind words in support of my work!

  • such a beautiful performance, you have really inspired me, thank you!

  • @raqsgothique: A big belated thank you for your kind words! I am so glad to hear you enjoyed it.

  • How drab the other people look. The west seems to have no idea of colour. I'd think that people living in lustreless climes would wear clothes more colourful but the Rajasthanis living in bright semidesert conditions tend to be the most vivid.

  • @RonAlmeida: I want very much to go to Rajasthan... for its beauty as much as for its textiles! :)

  • @JaiKhalsa But you must have lived in India long enough to learn what you have. Yes Rajasthan is beautiful, but if you want to see the cultural beauty and depth of the world, you should do it soon. Because globalisation is turning this planet into a monolingual, noncultured melting pot of mediocrity.

  • @RonAlmeida: You're right, I was in India for a long time - 12 years - but I never made it to the desert... Still, I am very lucky in that I get to do a lot of traveling, so I get to see a lot of places on our beautiful planet. :)

  • @sheshavardhani & @nitinmehra20 : why dont you stop quarreling and explore the beauty no matter how little it is. Aswadana(the art of enjoying) is more important than performing. if rasikas ( viewer ) is not there there would'nt have been any artists in this world . humbleness is the essential qualification needed to become an artist / rasika . friends lets get down to earth. Loka Samastha Sukhino Bhavanthu! (Let All Be Happy. Universal Prayer)

  • @krishnaprasadvarma: Thank you for keeping the peace. We're all creatures of love. Let All Be Happy, indeed. :)

  • Hi Jai Really enjoyed watching your dance . nice one .. keep it up. btb where did you learn this from ? whos your guru ?

  • @krishnaprasadvarma: Thanks very much! To answer your question, I studied under two Gurus. The first was C. Radha Krishna, in Bangalore. The second was a Kalakshetra-trained teacher named Christel Stevens, who taught in the U.S. Both were exceptional, and I feel so blessed to have been able to learn from them. Thanks again for your support - I appreciate it!

  • @sheshavardhani I don't give a flying f about what the origins are and its association. Neither am I interested in its history. I am looking at it as art, *just* art. The individual dancing in the the video feels the same. She appreciates it and practices it. Thats good enough.

You can go ahead and do your PHD in it. Ever heard of the quote "Ignorance is Bliss"

  • @nitinmehra20 Aaaah comonn. Dont ever try to think bharatanatyam is a mere art, its even much above it. I dont need any PHDs. I already learned this form dance and I treat it divine as taught by my guru. I do know all the facts about it. Thats what made me feel sad looking at the performance on the street. I never did criticize her art. I am just expecting respect to the art.

You can go and hide you peanut brain and be happy that Ignorance is a bliss!!!

  • I dint know you could create a 'channel' on youtube! Sometimes in life you stumble upon things that are out there but packaged in a new way. there comes a person who teaches you something or shows you something or a book perhaps you might have read that amazes you. I dont know much about dance but watching your performance was wondeful!

Writing down these thoughts on a gloomy winter day................

  • @mohavi088: Thank you for the kind support in your poetic post! I love stumbling upon new things, new ideas, new ways of doing things. It's one of my favorite pastimes. ;)

  • Waves of the sea could not have been more beautifull!!

  • @brainlaundry: You're so sweet! Thank you! :)
