After assembling mine back together my space bar is unresponsive. I had a VERY VERY minor spill last night. All the keys worked, but 5 were sticky, so i took the space bar, vbc & command off. Again they all responded and worked as they should, but were sticky. So i cleaned all of them, and put it back together. Works like a charm. EXCEPT the spacebar. I've gotten set right, its back together as it should, and pressed all the places as it should. Yet will not respond.
It really isn't that difficult to put the space bar back on. I just set it in place, made sure it was lined up, and push down hard, all the way across. It's back on, and it's doing fine.
Many thanks. My family use me as their in-house help desk and general Mr. Fixit. You are one of the secret resources I use to maintain my reputation for infallible competence.
THANK YOU so much! My key is a little loose in the back now, but it worked perfectly after my friends knocked a full can of Dr. Pepper over on my keyboard. Somehow the only problem with it was that the spacebar was sticky.
@ClearVisionTest Haha, that's EXACTLY what happened to me and why I was looking up this video. Problem is... now, I trying to decide if it's worth cleaning all the rest of the keys too. The bottom two rows are "kind of" sticky. But, I might just decide it's not worth the effort to clean them.
Managed to snapa tiny piece off the plastic bracket that hooks it in at the top left and now it won't clip backon properly, any advice as to what i can do?
@pinkshrimp I had to mess with mine a bit to make it work right. It kept wanting to stick pressed in. And then it clicked. I ended up not snapping the spacebar all the way down onto the plastic tabs. To this day, it's still not snapped all the way into place, but it works. As long as you have all the pieces, and none of the little tiny plastic tans are broken (and probably even if one of the tabs did break), you should be able to fix it. Good luck!
I had spilled Maple Syrup on my spacebar. It was a disaster! By following your instructions I'm typing on the thing right now...totally fixed. Thanks!
@ntorneiro That can be avoided if you are very careful. To be able to take it apart without braking or loosening it, it's a good idea to see how the clips hold on to everything. That way you can tell which part of the key to tug on. Either way, it's still a risk, and I only did it because I had plenty of extra keys in case something went wrong.
Thank you so much. I accidentally spilled water on my space bar and it was stiff for a while. Came across this video and manage to fix it with your guidance. Very informative and now my space bar works great!
tutorial was very good. see how there are spaces between the words i am typing? i do wish you and other tutorials would not talk too much about how hard or how big a pain it is to do these things. the power of suggestion....i am mechanically & technologically retarded and was very intimidated to tackle this because everywhere i looked the message was Stay Away From Messing With The Space Bar. but really, your instructions were great and clear. no problem! thanks!
Hey I found a better way of putting it back on, if you fix the top metal bracket first, then you sort out the top parts of the plastic brackets (by lifting up the lower side of the space bar, when they (the top half of brackets) are fixed, you just push the rest down, they all pop into their places real easy.
@GeniusClaire That seems to work better for some than for others. For me, that led to my spacebar sticking in the pressed position. As far as I could tell everything was in place. So I took it apart again, and made sure every little clip was holding onto what it was supposed to. Success followed for me, but from the comments it looks like even these steps are not enough for some. I did mention the spacebar is tricky, and that's coming from someone with a fair amount of experience. =(
@existenceisfutile84 Thank you. Yes, I'm not good at writing instructions! One thing for sure, If you've got a tool kit, it really helps a lot doesn't it!
