I can't wait for David Ellefson's autobiography to come out ! he has already confirmed it he said that he was in the process of writing it when there was a chat with him in the Megadeth fanclub a month or so ago
Their message really rings true for me, personally. I recently partied my nuts off and ended up drinking way over the amount that can kill someone. I had no idea until afterwards... HUGE wake up call. Not touching that again.

@ mikem376 actually yes he was and no need to call anyone a dumbass dude. Dave wrote a lot of riffs and solos on that album dude and it doesn't matter what you say. Even Metallica admitted that they used his music dude. Do your research b4 calling people names and making yourself look ignorant.
@jerk618 -couldn't agree more Mustaine was officially listed as a composer for 5 kill em alls (the best ones - horsemen and phantom lord) as well as 2 rtl songs (ride and call of kutlu)

y do ppl always have bring up metallica vs megadeth get a god damm life u pricks and shut up just listen to there music and if u don't like it listen to something else
yea, Metallica needs to rip off a band that is not nearly as successful. im just sure of it. are you aware that there are only 12 notes and then they repeat? its impossible to NOT have a riff here and there that sounds like someone elses riff
Ur all fuckin dumb regardless of what year the two albums came out dave said when they first got together round 81 dave wanted to involve a childeren's prayer in one of the songs so if neone gets credit its dave. and if u watch a year and a half with metallica james explains a little bit so read up faggots
If you buy the Korean version of Countdown to Extinction on vinyl, it comes with a two page booklet that details the period the album was released in and some interesting facts (it helps if you have a Korean translator of course).
Here are some facts...
Psychotron was partially inspired by something Dave read about the Russian CIA's (KGB) attempt to create the ultimate fighter.
This was my Life is a sequel to In my Darkest Hour.
Sweating Bullets was an attempt to do something more funkier.
The Korean vinyl release of Rust in Peace is strange in that three songs were removed (Holy Wars...the Punishment Due, Take No Prisoners and Poison was the Cure) in exchange for four songs from the previous album (Into the Lungs of Hell, Hook in Mouth, Anarchy in the U.K. and Mary Jane).
This was done to improve the sales of the previous album and so that people in Korea would buy the American import of Rust in Peace (similar to why people buy Japanese versions of albums to get extra songs).
The Korean release of RIP also comes with a sheet describing the history of the album and some cool facts:
The album was released in Korea on the 19th April, 1991 because the company who released it (EMI) also owned Iron Maiden and they didn't want both RIP and Iron Maiden's '90 album (No Prayer for the Dying) to be released at the same time in Korea for the sake of avoiding sales clashes (in order to achieve maximum sales potential).
Hence why RIP was released 6 months after NPFTD in Korea.
Other cool facts featured on the Korean sleeve of RIP...
For the final track, DM thought about changing the title to either Lust in Peace or Last in Peace before settling on RIP...Polaris.
Since EMI were keen to have Megadeth promoted as equally as Iron Maiden, references to them are abundant - comparing their mascots plus giving the impression that, for RIP, DM was inspired by the epic lyrical range of Piece of Mind, the pace of Number of the Beast and the live energy of Live After Death.
Hey,, I have the Piece of Mind album on a picture disc album (vinyl) that was audiophile & I framed it & put it on the wall. I only actually played it 3 times. I wonder how many of them exist?
I think, since CTE was an attempt to streamline their sound like Met's, MD should have followed suit by releasing the album on a double-vinyl format.
The reason for this being that part of the impact of Met's black album was that by spreading the material across two vinyls, there was a stronger level of high fidelity that captured Met's live energy.
In Met's case, not only was it about simplifying the song structures but also making the bass and drums more powerful (like Crue's Dr. Feelgood).
Skin o' my Teeth reminds me of Liar. I've read a review that also noted the similarities in pace between the two songs. Liar sounds more edgier but Skin has a more light-hearted tone to it.
With the obvious exception of Rust in Peace, my favorite Megadeth songs of the early '90s are Go to Hell, 99 Ways to Die and Breakpoint.
If Psychotron was replaced by Breakpoint and if Go To Hell was the final song (rounding it off to 12 songs altogether like Youthanasia) then it would have done better.
Countdown had a couple good songs, but for the most part I consider that to be the album where Megadeth lost their way musically. They've never been the same since.
Actually, I thought Youthanasia would've been a better album if Max Norman hadn't insisted that every single song on that album be done at 120 bpm. I think that ruined some pretty good songs on that album.
I hate whenever Megadeth don't get recognition as a big band!! especially on some of those guitar magazines! I think it's mostly because ever since Marty left, there hasn't been a great guitar player-until now with Chris. I like marty better though-but dave is a legend and should be more recognized.
at 3.05--- who acually wrote that prayer first ?? tallica or deth ?? iv noticed its bin used by both bands but neva really gave it much fort after that.
Dumb asses the prayer has been around even before the band members were born. Is it even that big of a deal? Stop trying to find a reason to accuse either band of doing something first and the other of copying it.
that song is fucking earlier and shit, its on bill and teds bogus journey which came out in july 91, and that came out before the black album (aug) so.. i guess metallica ripped of Megadeth, sorry to ruin your burn.
David Ellefson was an amazing bass player and musician...he should still be with Megadeth, and I really liked what Marty had to say...too bad the only original now is Dave...
I know that...did I say the one with Marty Friedman and Nick Menza was the original one? no, but it was the best one...as I said though, David Ellefson should still be with the band or he should come back since (supposedly) him and Dave are in good terms again...
haha, i agree. but i also think he's right about when u can get ur own idea out of lyrics and relating it to ur own life. pessimistic, but excually realistic :)
Megadeth has been better than metallica since they started.Cliff made metallica 83-88 albums even the black album was influenced by cliff, enter sandman, sad but true titles that been around since cliff was alive.Dave did it from scratch and even the new album is rockin as much as countdown or rust in peace can metallica say that about anything since 1991.
goodfellatn, I never knew the black album was influenced by Cliff. Where did you find out that Enter Sandman and Sad But True had been around since Cliff was alive?
Mustaine may have had taken stuff and alcohol, dunno, but he seems a lot brighter and a more skilled musician than the quite dumb guys from Tallica. Ok Ulrich is quite funny, but I don't understand they keep their musical abilites up. Very disappointing.
Every Megadeth video I try to watch, every single fucking one, has some goddamn pointless comment war between Metallica and Megadeth. Why don't you all just shut the fuck up and watch the video. The beef is between Dave and Metallica, not any dumbshit who thinks he knows more about each band.
well it is a topic you cant evade when you hear about megadeth because every fan of megadeth were or are also fans of metallica also because without that argument megadeth would b still underground and metallica would be a bit less popular because without this metallica would be short on history and people would have lost interest in the band because they would be boring... also its something more to talk about in a conversation :S. but they both own and i agree its geting lame :(
umm - Outlaw torn, Fixxer, All within my hands, Sweet amber, The unamed feeling, Memory remains, Unforgiven II , Hero of the day, Cure , Wasting my hate.
hetfield is a better songwriter that isnt even debatable , Have you ever even read the lyrics to a metallica song the meaning behind some of them are beyond clever, megadeth besides the rifts are not even in the same league .
marty friedman has better hair than me and i'm a female!!

It's not a suprise that Metallica ripped Mustaine off.
Just listen to the new album Death Magnetic, the song "The End Of The Line".
One of those riffs is a complete rip off from Megadeth's song When, off The World Needs A Hero.

Metallica recorded "Enter Sandman" in 1991.

oo man, y the hell did ellefson go berserk against dave?!!? well thank God dave won the appeal :D
karimzo21 4 years ago
Ellefson thought that he wasn't getting enough song credits. That's what started the feud between him and Mustaine.

The beef is between Dave and Metallica, not any dumbshit who thinks he knows more about each band.
fuckinchrist 5 years ago 3
well it is a topic you cant evade when you hear about megadeth because every fan of megadeth were or are also fans of metallica also because without that argument megadeth would b still underground and metallica would be a bit less popular because without this metallica would be short on history and people would have lost interest in the band because they would be boring... also its something more to talk about in a conversation :S. but they both own and i agree its geting lame :(

I love Megadeth, NOT Metallica. They aren't my style, but I don't mind them. Not every fan of Megadeth is also a fan of Metallica.

hetfield is a better songwriter that isnt even debatable , Have you ever even read the lyrics to a metallica song the meaning behind some of them are beyond clever, megadeth besides the rifts are not even in the same league .
