  • I could and will share this as much and whenever possible

  • love it!

  • :D sooo funnyy!!! pretty cool though

  • Que salvaje!!!

  • Just press your lips together and blow - I'm teaching myself - it just takes a hell of a lot of practice. Talk to a brass player. You can get a greater range than what you see Mr. Turre doing on a single shell. I haven't found an ethical and reliable source of shells so right now I am limited to one shell.

  • Does Steve Turre have an instrucion manuel that teaches how to play those fabulous notes on the shell....wow what a sound!!!!

  • what show was this?

  • Hey Misty...The reason it sounds jazzy might be that they're jazz musicians playing jazz.

  • just gotta luv it!

  • @MISTY1770

Jazz that sounds...jazzy...who woulda thunk? I guess because you don't like, or more likely cannot comprehend it, it must be elitist. You are like the Emperor in "Amadeus", Steve just played "too many notes" for you, ha bud?

  • i know this host... dave get ready to roll, get ready to roll, dave get ready to roll, hahahahaha

  • wow

  • Caracol usado por Aztecas y Mayas, fantastico!!!

  • I saw this guy when he performed at Holyoke Community College's Jazzfest this year and I met him the day after. Great player and a great guy for sure.

  • Wicked awesome, his tone on those shells defies any sense of the possible

  • steve turre mexican?

  • @jesamani75 Believe so... I know he's from San Francisco and is one mean soloist...Peace Bless Steve and you too Bro'...

  • que tal concha........

  • that is nice, but it is not an discovery or or invention because the incas usually used that instrument called "pututo" in the religious ceremonies of cuzco- peru

  • song: All Blues- Miles Davis

    COOL!!!!!!!!

  • 2 shells at once..........thats pretty intense Mr. Turre you sir have great talent!

  • blacklungsjoe is right turre does suck hard compared to him

  • Lol the guy at 5:24 was like "God damn it!"

This is really cool btw 5/5

  • Fantastic!!!

  • dig that kookie music man! tottaly groovy!

  • ...no words.....no words....

  • Incredible, this guy is unreal and I will happily see him next month here in San Diego

  • WOW!!!...AMAZING!!!

  • Shells have a range of about a perfect fifth. . .he has great mouthpiece control. For whoever's wondering, his hand operates like a valve or a slide.

  • Actually that's a 7-3-2 he's playing.

  • Actually, All Blues is based off a 1-4-5. . .

  • Actually, all music is based off a 1-4-5.

    Duh

  • Actually, you're wrong. The majority of POPULAR music is based off of 1-4-5. But you fail to realize that much of jazz and classical do not adhere to the same principles.

  • Adhere all you want. One day you'll know the truth!

  • I'm a nonconforming conformist, I adhere to no standards!

  • This is seems to be a problem if you want to call yourself a conformist.

  • I thought this would be corny, and I was wrong. Holy crap. The late, great Don Alias on percussion, and a cool version of 'All Blues.'

  • Nice circular breathing at the end : the sound stays pretty much the same, and I guess it must be really difficult in a conch...

  • muito interessante...

  • I like how "Blacklungsjoe" rallies all of his mindless friends on youtube in bashing Turre. Most of them quite obviously know very little about actually playing music. Noodling out pop melodies on any instrument hardly gives one any prowess as a musician.

  • dumb ass

  • (I was trying to reply to someone below... woops).

God forbid someone try to play innovative music.

If you don't think this video is awesome, keep your mouth shut so people don't know you're an idiot.

  • are u kidding even for a normal instrument that wouldve been pretty damn good

  • definiteley not the best sound, but hey COOL vid. i think he did alright

  • obviously you dont know how hard it is to play out of a fukkin former snail shell

  • He went to the school i go to now, i know this because my band teacher brags about it a lot. he is coming here this thursday!

  • Turre definitely gets the recognition, but he could stand to pay attention to the younger shell players. Blacklungsjoe definitely has an amazing range & totally in tone. Turre sounds like he is constantly spitting in the shell for lack of better shell playing MUSIC

  • If no one cared, this post wouldn't be worth watching or commenting to. New and innovative muscians are the ones who bring ART to shell playing. Turre has more exposure & "the name" so he doesn't need to push the limits and explore the future of shell playing like blacklungsjoe does. That's what truly makes a better muscian! Keep up the playing, Blacklungsjoe--and the smack talk is entertaining too. Don't lose the attitude!

  • This is an amazing version of All Blues !

Thanks Steve for your musicality on the shells...

To sad that we, conch players, have this blacklungsJoe commin' up with his attitude...

  • Amazing, i didnt know you could play shells!

  • Your right in many ways. I'm sorry for making lofty remarks about my own playing. Steve plays with awesome Brasswind techniques that i don't possess. What i do have, however, is a hand technique that allows for more notes. I hope this realtively young artform blossoms with both our influences.

This arrogant sherade is just to bring attention to Our unknown artform. Steve and I both contribute to the survival of our rare art. I hope he understands this is an act.

  • i think it is cool to play on different shells. perhaps you're a better shell player. but steve's definitly the better musician. and that's the point

  • Whatever dude. Steve is three times my age, I'm kid. Obviously I will be way better in the future than steve could even imagine. But i will still use shell for rock and reggea before jazz. This does not make me less of a muscian.

  • blacklungsjoe, you're a cocky bastard. steve is one of the best musicians of our time. so shut up and accept that he's the man.

  • Yeah this is amazing just this past week on Thursday the 19 he played a concert with us at Kent State with the jazz band and we played this song as he played the shells. Let me tell you it was AMAZING!!! That last chord almost made me cry.

  • he must come from a strange tribe in atlantida to achive that!!!! i love it!
