@dvd1731 To be honest we haven't tried the PR55. It is first & foremost a guitar tuner that also includes FX processing. If you need something to noodle about with at home with headphones you should be satisfied. However if you really want to get a good sound happening, a decent amp is still the way to go. Still, the PR55 will give you a lot of tones for your money.
@Overwatch93 Good question. Some of the Epiphone Les Pauls that we've played have been very good. However, the Vintage V100 is one heck of a meaty-sounding LP style guitar that also sounds incredible and plays lovely. In our opinion the Epiphone headstock profile just doesn't look right and for that reason alone I'd probably plump for the V100. Good luck with your decision and let us know how you get on.
@dvd1731 If you are looking for a decent amp for gigging then the short answer is no. However, there are several very good practice amps available for around £100. Best look around and save up the extra cash to afford a decent amp. The Blackstar HT-1 is a lovely little amp that we highly recommend but Fender, Peavey & Marshall also make superb small amps for home use.
Thanks for the reply. For future videos it might be nice for us viewers to know the amps (an/or effects) that is used in the video.
I like the standard humbuckers in my Gibson Explorer, but I'm not sure if I really want more powerfull ones but I could always swap them for something else if it's not my style.
@eXpdjmnm Thanks for the feedback. If people feel it is relevant or helpful to mention any amps or effects used then in future we will definitely do so. To be completely honest, in the context of a guitar review we try to demonstrate them using a fairly neutral or dry clean and/or overdriven tone. We would often prefer to use some subtle effects but we might be accused of disguising the guitar's natural tone. If you want more details about the gear then we'll happily explain.
@PlayMusicPickup I personally like a bit of information about what gear is being used. Reviewing a guitar with both clean and overdriven tone is a good idea. I feel like I get a better idea of what works well with the guitar that way.
Oh and be the way, I really like that you interact with your youtube-audience by replying to questions and so on :-)
@eXpdjmnm You are welcome. This is my job, so I need to listen to what our audience needs and gradually improve things as we progress. With your help we can only improve.
@eXpdjmnm happy to oblige. For this video we used an old Mesa Boogie DC-5. The overdrive sound came via the amp's lead channel. Thanks for your comments and we think you will be very pleased with the V100. The Wilkinson humbuckers feel slightly more powerful than some of Gibson's own humbuckers, which is fine if you like a big beefy rock tone. Good luck.

How would this compare to an Epiphone Les Paul Standard?

Nice review, I'm hoping to buy a V100 once I have the money.
But I'd like to know what amp you used for this video.

V100s have been around at least a decade. I had a wine red one with the mini humbuckers - superbly made guitar.
Oh and Bring Play Music Magazine back in print!!!
