Since Boeing bought MacAir/Douglass, the airframe is basically and orphan. Boeing would rather sell the AF 7x7 based air frames than support the legacy of one of it's acquisitions.
@rampking1 Cause they had to make too many changes during fitting for the mod. It might get upgrades in the future but the cost:benefit ratio isn't quite there yet.
its a DC-10-300 with mods and holds 359,000 POUNDS of fuel, not gallons. It's max weights is only 590,000 lbs or so but stll takes the place of three KC 135 stratotankers.
Nice video. The KC-10's from McGuire come to my airport a lot to do some pattern work and other exercises. They are fun to watch, especially when nothing even close to size ( with the exception of a Fedex A300) comes to my airport (Ksyr)
i've flown on one of these all the way from japan to north carolina before. It was probably nothing for a stratotanker though, considering the kc-10 holds over 300,00 gallons of fuel. :)

A historical fact: It was a KC-10 and a group of F-15's that were the first responders to Saudi Arabia when Iraq oocupied Kuwait.

Dollar for dollar, One of the BEST investments the USAF has ever made.
DC10-30F > KC10
Anyone know why they haven't done the FedEx style "glass-cockpit" conversion on all of them?

@RainbowManification I've loaded, serviced and towed the aircraft but I am out of the loop on this.
Just figured that the unit cost might be lower if the USAF would have joined in when FedEx was doing the modification.
Talked to a crew member and he was a bit embarrasssed that I brought this up and was aware of it.
Then again he wasn't the flight engineer!

@slh950 Converted DC-10-30 for refueling missions. Very different internally than the commercial version.
