  • This is the 1st time I've ever heard her stuff before & I sat back in my chair in awe. What a powerful performance. Needless to say, I think I'm going to be a big fan.

  • I love Laura. Most soulful ever, along with her hero Curtis Mayfield.

  • God, she's lovely!

  • LAURA NYRO ROCKS THE WOMAN WAS A GENIUS WHERE WOULD ALL THESE WOMEN SINGERS BE IF IT WAS NOT FOR HER. RIP

  • @ JimKF. Dr. John and Darlene Love are good. I agree that the RnR Ho F is B.S. but not because they picked the two you wished they'd passed for Laura Nyro. They deserve to be honored. But definitely so does Laura Nyro even more so. Remember, any place that declares itself to be the arbiter of artistic excellence is more than likely a commercial enterprise. We know in our minds and hearts what counts best. Cheers.

  • FYI She wrote more songs than I can name here.

  • Looks like you all got you Rock and Roll hall of fame induction. I just don't see how Nyro fame. Not very good either IMO. Oh well. After hearing she will be inducted i had to find out who she is. Not impressed.

  • @walrus108

" I just don't see how Nyro fame."

Aside from your poor writing skills, you probably aren't that musically sophisticated either. People with a poor education generally don't appreciate good music, and prefer whatever is being played on the radio, at the moment.

  • I discovered Laura Nyro on You tube. Thanks a million for this moment in time.

  • Laura Nyro on a stuffy NBC musical program like The Kraft Music Hall....but that face at the beginning making the introduction.....was that....Bobby Darin? Now I understand why Laura Nyro was invited to perform on this show. Someone like Darin who also supported the work of Tim Hardin must have had a hand in securing her a spot. Laura -- she's always great. Bobby Darin....if you did pull strings to get Laura on NBC that night -- I applaud your taste......again.

  • @lastrada52 I think it was Darin...and it makes sense that he'd do that for her...after all, he'd not only had Linda Ronstadt on on a different special, he'd played the guitar intro on Linda's song.

  • Very nice! I also love the way the 5th Dimension sing this. Florence LaRue really does this proud. Man, God sure knew what he was doing when he created Laura Nyro. What a prolific songwriter!

  • Finally! Laura Nyro is being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012. This is long overdue. I rediscovered Laura a few years ago and now have most of her albums. She was one of the best singer-songwriters of the 60's and 70's. Her songs became hits for the 5th dimension(Wedding Bell Blues, Stoned Soul Picnic, Save the Country), Three Dog Night (Eli's Coming). Unfortunately, it's a posthumous award. Laura died in 1997 from ovarian cancer. But her music will live forever!

  • SHE IS WONDERFUL, SIMPLY DIVINE!!

  • The best of the best.

  • What are saying...too bad she died a lesbian..she was beyond any category. Such a song, beautiful Laura. I dont care who she was with, it's what she chose.

  • Here is a perfect definition of what soul means ..

  • It's so absurd she isn't in the rock HOF. She sits at the piano at the end of the song and looks like she's about to play something. Is that one posted too??

  • beauty and supreme talent

  • The music changed in the sixties. Went from Elvis, the Platters, and Motown (which was great) to a whole new sound. And stereo didn't hurt either. And then there were the drugs...

  • Thank you so much for this video. I was having a very hard time my first year of college ('71-'72) and listened to Laura Nyro's first four albums almost every single evening. Without her I might not have made it through the year -- alive.

  • check youtube for

for "It's gonna take a miracle" sung by Laura Nyro.

It was a Motown song by the Royalettes, i think,

  • laura was the blackest white girl of her time

  • @jackhillty1 you said it! what soul.

  • She was a good singer--not as great as Marilyn McCoo or Barbra Streisand who recorded her songs--but she sounds especially good and strong here.

  • What was it about the sixties, that it produced extraordinary talents like this? And then it all faded. The Golden Age was over. And here we are, constantly going back to the past for the musical sustenance that we can't find anywhere today.

  • @BRowe99 You know, I've wondered about that too. If it were just the Beatles and a few other high-quality geniuses, then you could say it was just good fortune in the early days of R&R. I think evolutionary forces may have motivated the explosion of creativity. The threat of death from the Vietnam war may have kicked creative juices into high gear. When that war ended, things (coincidentally?) petered out. I'm not trying to justify that horrible war though.

  • @BRowe99

You have to remember the era. From Evars, Malcolm, the Kennedy's, King; all were killed. Anyone who had the good of the people at heart ended up on Nixon's sheeit list. The establishment saw how hundreds of thousands got along at Woodstock and got real scared.

  • The year after Woodstock the Fed gov. had all the States declare injunctions on mass-outdoor concerts (except Monterey and Newport; having been 'grandfathered' in). Concert goers went from seeing/hearing white black and Latino music on the same bills to corporate segregating. Music on TV and the air-waves went from eclectic to compartmentalized; i.e. all jazz, all country; all BS.

  • @BRowe99 I'll bet every generation has said that about its music.

  • "It's Gonna Take a Miracle" (Teddy Randazzo, Lou Stallman, Bob Weinstein). The ONE song that I have been looking for since my teenage years upon first hearing it. I heard it twice on radio but I never knew who sang it (no one's familiar with her and the song) and so started my quest. i wish someone would post it on youtube, it's a great song with her signature rendition although she didn't write it herself and she recorded it with Labelle.

  • Nothing to say......................divine!

  • Cant believe I only just heard of this singer. Im 44 too! shes excellent. Check out Rumer singing Am I forgiven.

  • Cant believe I only just heard of this singer. Im 44 too! shes excellent.

  • She did a nice duet with Kenny Rankin. There's also a song called Laura's Dad that has some nice family pictures. Both are on Youtube.

  • I very fortunate to have all of Laura's albums in my vinyl collection. In the 80's and 90's I was collecting classic vinyl albums from all janres. A good friend gave me three of her albums, all original Columbia pressings from the late sixties, I fell in love with her singing style, I knew she was an accredited song writer, and varios groups such as; B,S&T, Three Dog Nite and Lames Taylor just to name a few had re-recorded them. She truly did write songs for a rainy day RIP Laura!

  • He's a Runner. One of my all time favorites by Laura. First time I heard her was in 1969. WNEW FM played Eli's Coming. Never heard anything like it before. I was hooked.

I learned different things from different singers. What Laura taught me was that the most important part of singing is expressing the heart of things.

Thanks for posting this video. Great to see this beauty in action. Not too many of these performances around.

  • hard to find a voice like her, nowadays.. for any reason.

  • Amazing, talented woman gone way too soon.

  • THESE DAYS, WE GET WHAT WE GET AND ALTHOUGH ALOT OF IT IS TERRIFIC, THERE WILL NEVER EVER EVER BE A LIGHT LIKE THAT OF LAURA NYRO. WHILE IN HIGH SCHOOL I FOLLOWED HER EVERYWHERE ON A COLLEGE CAMPUS TOUR. SHE WAS BETWEEN ELI AND THE RELEASE OF NY TENDABERRY. EACH 2 HOUR CONCERT FEATURED LAURA SOLO ON STAGE LEAVING HER DEPLETED AND HER AUDIENCE ECSTATIC,SCREAMING FOR MORE. THERE IS SIMPLY NOTHING AND NO ONE TO COMPARE TO THE OUTSTANDING TALENT THAT WAS LAURA NYRO.

  • she does not get anywhere near the praise and recognition she deserves.

  • remarkable. beautiful. if you were lucky enough to see her in concert, you saw one of the most talented singer songwriters of the 20th century.

  • this is fantastic and she has really inspired me, its haunting, the way she sings each word with such feeling

  • Truly a one in a million. What I wouldn't have given to see her perform live. Man, she just does it for me!!

  • @USAisAntiWhite It was Stoned Soul Picnic. Calling her a "one hit wonder" is an insult. Her songs were covered by others and became big hits; Stoned Soul Picnic, Wedding Bell Blues, And When I Die, Eli's Coming, to name a few.

  • @USAisAntiWhite you have no idea of what you are saying. Do you have a soul?

  • The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame needs to induct her...yesterday.

  • @susantyrellfans The Jazz 'Downbeat' Poll should also have her high on the list because her style was pure soul.

  • Laura was the best combination singer song writer of all time. The music industry really screwed up not allowing her to rise to the top. The industry does what it wants and music suckers follow every time.

  • she's still amazing :)

  • I WISH THEY'D LET HER PLAY ON HER EARLIEST SONGS!!!

  • what a complete babe! I think she was half Italian half jewish...what a complete knockout! Too bad she died a lesbian, but boy did she have a set of pipes on her..so many groups sang her tunes..what a testament to her talent..may her music live on!

  • too bad she died a lesbian? what a ma-ROON!

  • She opens her Fillmore East 1970 concert with this song accompanied only by her piano.

  • her voice is soooo LOUD and CLEAR

  • After Al Kooper left Blood, Sweat and Tears, they auditioned Nyro and thought she'd be terrific as their lead singer but her manager thought the band would never hit it big and convinced her to decline. They settled for David Clayton-Thomas and their next album won the Grammy for Album of the year. Nyro is an America original---an amazing talent.

  • @nycsym Did they win w/ one of Laura's famous songs on that album?

  • How can those voters of the Rock 'n Roll HoF pick Dr. John and Darlene Love over Laura Nyro? Give me a break. The RnR HoF is a joke. They lose more and more credibility each year.

  • @JimKF Being a Louisiana boy, I love Dr. John. But I totally agree with Darlene Love. She only got in 'cause Springsteen lobbied for her. What did Darlene Love ever write? Laura wrote her own stuff and the covers she did she made her own.

  • @JimKF ----the rock and roll hall of fame was a bad idea----really. the rock and roll hall of fame was designed for kid rock and lady gaga. i hope the mc5, canned heat and laura nyro never make it in. they deserve better.....

  • @JimKF ... personal taste. Music appeals to every person differently. And every artist has something unique to offer. So comparing and rewarding just one almost seems unfair, and a daunting task trying to choose just one amongst so many memorables.

  • The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is long overdue. She influenced Elton John for crying out loud! The Songwriter's Hall of Fame is a start though. Her induction ceremony should be star studded with people like Elton John, Patti LaBelle, Todd Rundgren, Jackson Browne, John Sebastian, Rickey Lee Jones, Elvis Costello, Joni Mitchell (hey, it could happen), Felix Cavaliere from the Rascals and a bunch of others. You could throw in artists like Norah Jones, Regina Spektor, and Sara Bareilles (sp?).

  • love her voice alot

  • It's a crying shame there weren't much more live performances from this period that were filmed. She was a dramatic performer. It's great to watch how much passion she has when she performs.

  • A very distinctive sound.

  • Me too, Rocky.

  • This one brings tears to my eyes just listening to it.

    Incredible.

    Beautiful

  • I love her face too. I guess back then the cultural norms were debbie reynolds, sandra dee, etc - the blond shiksa look.

  • OK all you guys that love Laura should go to the site I post below. There is a young man from Italy that apparently loves Joni, Joan, etc and has recently discovered Laura. He covers their songs and he is quite amazing. btw-I have absolutely no connection to him-I just love to listen to him and it is heartening to see younger people discover these giants. youtube.com/user/vaniglio

  • I HAVE MY OWN BADGE OF HONOR WITH LAURA NYRO. I HAPPEN TO LOOK ON A 45 FOR THE FIFTH DIMENSION AND SAW THAT SHE WROTE STONED SOUL PICNIC. I FOUND HER FIRST ALBUM AND INTRODUCED HER TO MY 1970'S HIGH SCHOOL ART CLASS. I LOVE THIS WOMAN

  • This is the first song I ever heard from Laura, when I was 12. It has stayed with me through the years as one of my favorites, from her, or anyone. Her voice is amazing, almost haunting, it gets inside your soul. When she sings, "why did you leave, and run off with tomorrow" I can feel her heart being torn apart. She is one of the greatest ladies and the most underrated of all time.

  • Life magazine once described her voice as a combination of Dionne Warwick and Judy Garland. In this televised rendition I'd throw in a bit of Streisand note holding for added effect. I wouldn't say that Laura was underated, just not over exposed...by choice. Consistent with her poetic vision and lyrics, she preserved her mystique by never losing the intimacy. Her integrity was matched only by her beauty and talent.

  • This is great. Beautiful voice. A friend of mine played me "Christmas and the Beads of Sweat' album in 1977 and have been a big fan ever since. I hear a big influence on Todd Rundgren amongst many others..

  • @jeanhebuterne Funny - a friend of mine introduced me to Christmas and the Beads of Sweat at around the same time and I have loved her ever since.

Upstairs By A China Lamp is phenomenal.

  • Amazing vocals.

  • Her career was being managed by an unknown David Geffen during the 67-71 years. You would think that he could have made her just a bit more famous considering that he charged her with a 50 percent managerial fee that forced her into retirement at 24.

  • @angelangel3000

This is the answer I have been looking for many years. I guess the way she was ripped off forced her to retire from 71-75. I feel like we were ripped off as fans. Laura deserved to be remembered as one of the all time greats. Laura clearly got a raw deal, but so did her fans.

  • @angelangel3000 Few questions:

1)Was it 50% of everything or just songwriting royalties? I've heard the latter.

2)How does being charged 50% force one into retirement? Didn't she just want to retreat to New England with her new husband at the time? You would think that if you were charged 50% you would keep working to make up for the money you lost or whatever.

  • @angelangel3000 You must take into consideration that Laura Nyro was uncomfortable with fame and the attendant trappings. Based on what I've learned about her, I don't believe she was comfortable in her own skin until after she was married, had her son, and started her relationship with Maria Desiderio. As for Geffen, this was his first go at management. He became a more effective manager (and record label mogul) into the 70s and 80s.

  • @angelangel3000

completely agree...he took advantage of her....btw, my mother house is right next to his.....He comes off as this ...'Angel" for Laura....but it wasnt' true.....

  • @angelangel3000 I think he (Geffen) botched the promotion of Souther, Hillman, Furay, also.

  • it starts and stops right here...AWESOME!!!!!

  • I've been listening to music for over 40 years -- started pretty seriously right around the time of this taping or a little before (as a teenager). I can't believe I missed her -- just started listening to her over the last 6 months or so (thanks to a blog post), and now seeing this -- stunning. Can't believe I missed her. Sounds like lots of people have.

  • Am I crazy, or does she look *exactly* like Sarah Silverman? Never mind the fact that her comedy's usually pretty nuts, I think she could play her in the biopic.

  • @wookie72 No, you aren't nuts. There's a pretty strong resemblance especially from the side. Have you seen the pic they used for Michelle Kort's book? It looks just like Sarah Silverman. I mean if Ray Charles was played by Jamie Foxx, then it wouldn't be that much of a stretch. If you would go in the musician direction, I would go with Regina Spektor. Not so much for resemblance but for musical style.

  • OMG !!!!!!!!!!!!! First time I ever saw that!!!! I never had the pleasure of seeing her in concert but damn I just don't think I'd have survived it! She packs a wallop! I've loved her since highschool!

  • the legend that is todd rundgren is majorly influenced by the genious nyro and you can tell.

  • @UrbanGuerilla88... they dated

  • When she hits that "till I die", I tear up every time.

  • Genious genious genious. More soul than Aretha Franklin. We miss and Love you Laura!

  • Re: musicians: Back in the "golden TV days" the networks each had their own orchestras (which often made up core units on indivual tv shows) including skills sets that could cover classical, pop & jazz styles. Additionally, any deficiancies could be easily remedied with a call to the Musicain's union.... espcially in NY or LA where most shows were broadcast. Check out some of the old (early/mid 60s) Streisand shows... awesome music quality.

  • Unless the Kraft Music Hall suddenly hired the country's best jazz musicians and brought in a chimes (glockenspiel?) player (which is rather doubtful), this would have to be some kind of lip-synch .... but it isn't off the album. Perhaps an out-take? Anybody know?

  • @Rajamuttu

Maybe they DID hire a band. Who knows?

  • @Rajamuttu Possibly they used the tracks from the recording without the vocals. She is definately not lip syncing the vocal part.

  • @BigGayerAl

    I know. You're right.

But 1) it was hard to pull back-up tracks in 1969, and 2) who knew when she would pause or slow down?

On the other hand, the Kraft Music Hall had no musicians of that caliber in their house band, much less a set of chimes.

They must have sprung for her session musicians, including a Nyro-style pianist ... for one song! Because she plays her own piano on her other KMH song.

I haven't found any reference to this on Google. Maybe someone really knows!

  • What an astonishing voice and talent! It's a crime she is so underrated. She changed my life with her passion and her music. We will never forget you, Laura.

  • It's so personal.....it just melts you.

  • Life changing. Beautiful song, amazing voice. Thank you. Now tell me why she is so little known today?

  • Tears actually come to my eyes, this voice, this song! So different from my other single favorite; MY favorites, no one else's, we each hear our own and my other is Tony Bennett's, "Once Upon a Time."

  • Genius! R. I. P. Laura, thank you

  • Play her in a film? Aww come on! Jennifer Love Hewitt.

  • @crimsonrush Andrea Martin if she was younger would have been a shoe in for Lura in a film she is a comedian but also has a great voice .look her up on youtube when she was young on the SCTV SHOW.

  • @kyolym I wil certainly look her up. A lot of the actresses who could have played her may be a bit too old, but with makeup and lighting anything is possible. :) Sarah Silverman is an interesting choice. :)

  • I fell for Laura when I saw a photo of her. THEN I heard her sing. I thought she was beautiful then and I do now. In another life. Sigh....

  • ...so far ahead of her time-even to today'standars!!

Not too many writers can hold a candle to her gift of putting thought into song so elequently....

  • I love her music, Laura is one of the most outstanding songwriters and her voice so soulful!! She puts her heart and soul into her music.

  • If Joni Mitchell thinks you're good, you're good. It has made my day to discover these Laura clips and see how many people actually recognize talent!

  • Great songwriter and performer, died much to young

  • How I wish there was more Laura Nyro on You Tube. This is pure gold. She belongs in the rock and roll h of f as a songwriter.

  • deusa... thanxs from brazil!!!

  • I hope we all live to deserve her

  • I'm melted. Melted.

  • rest in peace, beautiful goddess.....love

  • poor old dear laura....

she was so great...we miss her

  • 1:58-2:02...Why? Oh why-y-y-y-y....always bring chills feeling her passion into her song....

Just can't get enough of this song..

  • I know exactly what you mean. I've been listening to this for nine months now and could never tire of it, the woman was a truly passionate performer and writer

  • Comment removed

  • Oh my God!?? There´s nothing more delicious than to hear that girl singing.!

  • AMAZING !!!!

  • I'm so very tired of viewing Laura Nyro videos and taking the high road by quashing my true desire to gush over how very beautiful and sensuous she was....but she was straight up eye candy. Ok, back to the genius thing, 'cause the other wouldn't matter were it not for that--but she WAS gorgeous. And yes, I do feel better....

  • Yes, she was gorgeous. Her talent made her more beautiful...wish she was still with us.

  • Pure pure talent . Sadly miss her .

  • She was a powerful storm!!!

  • been singing this one a lot at the moment....guess i'm feeling it's meaning too well :(

    ahead of her time? certainly

    timeless

woman get away while you can....guess i should have listened

    love love love

  • @blakpach She's got that Bronx chick attitude that I love. Check out Wendy Waldman. She's another good one.

  • So far ahead of her time ~ she is, now, more popular than ever ...

thank God ... Laura finally get's her so very far over due appreciation.

  • I was lucky enough to see her a couple of times in the 70's....her music literally changed my life..I have never heard a singer of her genius since..she was...truly...a gift from God..

  • when i was a young girl, i played her albums, sang with her, connected with her. she changed my life, and she gave a gift.........that i will take with me , until the day i die.

    called peace and love.

  • I'd like to point something out about this remarkable genius. She sings, as a very young woman, with the same power and simplicity that Johnny Cash took a lifetime to master. It's just that simple.

  • @lebarosky We Americans have produced a lot of good singer-songwriters, but only a handful have had genius. Nyro had it, in abundance:) --

  • I feel so beside myself that I always thought I knew something about music-'specially R&B-until I viewed 5 D"s Wedding Bells Blues...realized Laura wrote the song. Never heard of her before I decided to look onto her works here. Needless to say I am COMPLETELY in awe of so much talent coming in a total package!!! Added to it (i.e. this song) it's TIMELESS!!! I'm ensuring she's definitely being added into my collection! Also I'm joining the effort to put her in the Hall of Fame...R.I.P. Laura.

  • If you haven't already, check out New York Tandeberry...beautiful lyrics & singing!

  • I definitely will....already purchased the Essentials CD for starters...either getting that one Eli and the 13th Confession LP next....

  • @uVueD2b

How do you join the effort to get her in the H O Fame add me to it ,I thank my friend Peter who introduced her to me back in 82 ,my heart cry out for her

  • @ludvalley109 For starters you can go to website,lauranyro.***...there is the R&R HOF address we cam write to...

  • @uVueD2b I agree totatlly she should also be in the songwriters hall of fame R.I.P. Beautiful Laura;)

  • this just blows me away everytime i see it!!!

not much footage of laura and this is priceless!!!!!!!

  • Blood Sweat and Tears sang her song.

  • she had such emotion when she sang, not many these days have both those talents. I just recently discovered her music from listening to Elton John about being influenced by her...now I know why.

  • Just look at how many super-talented people just gave up on making Music when MTV came into being and started showing Videos. Those who were not considered attractive, faded into obscurity.

With Laura Nyro, she just wouldn't buy into

the Music Exec's hype about changing

ANYTHING, and decided to retire from the

Music Industry at only 24 Years old!

And she's still SO Brilliant...and GORGEOUS... Business and Creativity don't often mix.

  • Hmmm...it NEVER ceases to amaze me -

That ANY Woman who was Independent,

Marched to her own Distant Drum, was

Brilliant, Talented, and steadfastly, absolutely refused to conform in any way, shape or form - whether it be in Dress, way of acting, whatever, and wasn't considered a 'classic beauty' - you know -

    Blonde, Blue-Eyed All-American Girl, thin,

back then...and even now was harrassed,

    mocked and hounded to DEATH...literally.

no matter how much Talent. So much for

    Individualism!

  • LAURA NYRO was Gorgeous. ONLY reason she was referred to as a 'Dog' was that she was far too Brilliant and a GREAT threat to most Singer/Songwriters of her day and even today. Her Music is too complex for 'normal' people. Let's face it, gang, those of us who enjoy her Music cannot be considered or categorized as 'NORMAL'...but then,

    that's a REALLY GOOD THING!!!

Laura was Sexy and Gorgeous and a

    Musical Genius!!!!

  • I love her face, and here she is stunning and authentic.Earthy and real! What you have now is a freak show of plastic, uninspiring stale corporatized dogs porning out.Interchangeable, untouchable, souless and vulgar.A dirty sandwich.Nothing!Ego maniacal, overly confident zeros . How dare this visionless ,ugly throng of trash asses be forced on us as "hot" while a great face like this was deemed ugly! Am I making myself clear!

  • Totally

  • as some intelligent pop star put it recently--the big music labels have been trying to remove the artist from the equation in the music business for a long time. Well, they've finally done it , no more like her. those f-ing creeps.

  • @ToeIn2194 You sure did! I loved her. We were both from New York and starving musicians coming up. she maade it first and tried to help all of her friends. Laura never forgot a friend. She was a truly beautiful person. She never got the credit she had coming. She belongs in the Hall of Fame. She earned it! RIP my dear friend.

    All My Love Pattty

  • @ToeIn2194 Crystal.

    She's such a beauty.

  • @ToeIn2194

    Well put.

  • @ToeIn2194 You sure hit the nail on the head. YOU are amazingly observant. It's about time some one tells it like it really is today.

  • @ToeIn2194 Shes not ugly. I dont like her music, but shes not ugly.

  • @ToeIn2194 Pardon?

  • @ToeIn2194 Agreed 1000%.

  • @ToeIn2194 You are making yourself very clear, to me and 52 more people. We speak your language and we hold Laura in the highest possible artistic esteem.

  • Sadly in her day she was considered too unattractive 2b a marketable star. In the Rolling Stone Illustrated History of RocknRoll, a music industry type referred to her as "a dog". Who cares ! Eli & the Thirteenth Confession is the best female singer-songwriter cd ever ! It starts out slow and picks up speed with every song until you are emotionally exhausted at the end.

  • that's so funny you say she was considered unattractive in that time. What about Janis Joplin? I always thought with the birth of MTV & music videos made a lot of less attractive artists turn away from becoming more popular. Maybe I was wrong. But she WAS great, and I'm glad I just discovered her after watching Elvis Costello show & Elton John talking about her influence on him.

  • I can only agree with you about her. I have loved her for a VERY long time. My favorite LN song is 'Upstairs by a Chinese Lamp'.

  • So magical. Love you and miss you, Laura.

  • This voice was a gift from God not of this world .What a loss that she is gone.

    Thank you for this video.

  • I love this woman...

  • That's my girl!

  • ethereal, yes, but the power, omg. blows me away. she hardly moves, or just her neck and head, where does that voice come from??? and the way she brings it down, goes back to her light touch, the delicate perfect pitch, sits there poised like a choir-girl then unleashes the full throated soulful belt OUT OF NOWHERE, out of the universal soul of woman. miraculous. bird and beast.

  • Comment removed

  • Ethereal. From another world.

  • one of the times I saw Laura live she was 8.9 months pregnant. she still soared all over the octaves completely without effort. any other singer would have given birth on the stage trying to do the same. she is the best of all time. and the most beautiful.

  • A beautiful woman with a beautiful voice who wrote beautiful songs. She may have passed on but her music is immortal. Thanks for posting this great clip of an artist at her best.

  • Cool, I learned recently that Rundgren dug this stuff along with Carol King. This sounds much like The Ballad of TR. 1971. Thanks, I'll be checking much more Laura Nyro. If Todd likes her then so do I.

  • Yeah, Todd loved her. Check the lyrics to "Baby, Let's Swing" on the "Runt" album: "Laura, I saw you open in LA..." Laura as in Nyro. Cool.

  • I saw her live at SUNY New Paltz (New York) in 1970.....I was blown away...she has the voice of an angel....brilliant singer/songwriter who left us too soon
