Those are chipmunks and they bite very quickly if you try to touch them because even though they look friendly, they only want food. I used to have these around as a kid and tried several times to get one tame enough to touch, but never could.

It's a squirrel, people. It's a golden mantled ground squirrel (spermophilus lateralis). Search that name and you'll find some pics. There are chipmunks in that area too but this isn't one of them. You can tell that by noticing that a) chipmunks aren't that big and b) chipmunk stripes go all the way to their cheeks. If it was a chipmunk I would have titled this "Attack of the Fat Chipmunk".
