Yeah, if they ever spent time with the dog to train him not to bark, this wouldn't happen. We got one complaint from a neighbor about our dog barking and since then, we take him practically everywhere. He just doesn't want to be alone! :(

My accountant/friend was up most of the night working. He said he got in bed at 4 a.m. and someone down the street from him had 2 dogs that barked and barked and barked. He said if they did it the next nite, the dogs owners would be up with him. Sure enough, he knocked on their door and told them his dilemma at 3 a.m the next morning. The dogs didn't bark anymore. I'm sorry, but the dog is barking because you are standing by the fence. It really annoys me when people complain about dogs barking, yes OK if it is constant, but not for 5 -10mins every now and then. My neighbours complained about my dogs barking, but when one of them was constantly doing DIY during works hours, and I complained, they said that I would have to put up with it!!!! I had to spend £100 on anti bark collars, in my opinion, you should get a life!

The dog is NOT barking because I'm by the fence. The dog doesn't bark at people. The dog knows me and likes us. The dog barks because he wants to go IN. He stands at their sliding glass door and stares INSIDE. This goes on for HOURS sometimes. YOU get a life.

sign543, I'm glad you at least understand why the dog barks. Our neighbor lets her dog out in the backyard for about an hour each night. She must think that's how the dog gets her entertainment.

No backyard or no big house is ever a substitute for a half hour walk every day. Dogs who are left outside bark because they are social animals. When they bark they are calling out for the pack. Kind of like saying "please let me back in, i don't want to be alone." People can be really stupid.

That would drive me insane. Where I used to live, the neighbour had a yorkshire terrier that barked ALL the time. I love dogs but was ready to shoot that one by the time I moved.

MY dogs went crazy when I was watching this video! I think you have to fight fire with fire....put a boom box out on your patio and blast classical music every time the dog starts barking. If classical music doesn't bother the neighbors, try hard rock; anything to get their attention. Hopefully they will ask you to please turn the music down and then you can explain you are only trying to drown out the incessant barking.

How long do they leave him outside? generally a dog won't just bark to bark. Either it is hungry or thirsty or hot or is asking to go back in the house. If it continues you could always nicely ask your neighbor if they could let him back in when he barks constantly. Dogs get a bad rap when it is usually the owners fault for not taking proper care of them.

I can completely sympathise with you: about 5 years ago our neighbours had these two dogs and they would bark constantly day and night. we would frequently have to complain about them - it was just SOO loud.

I'd recommend duct tape. It won't eliminate the problem altogether, but a few wraps around the muzzle will surely reduce it to a quiet mrrrrrrf and a rrrrrrf.
