  • Bloody hell i've made a mess!!! This is a stunning vid - brilliant! Nothing else sounds like it - total porn! Thanks for making my day. Just superb.

  • when that engine revved, i thought it was hellfire XD nice vid

  • i could listen to this all day

  • What can I say? I'm gobsmacked!

  • JESUS CHRIST

  • PHEW! That was mega!! Total thrash. Excellent vid.

Just one thing struck me listening to the engine shut down. It happened to all the engines for the last time when they were withdrawn, I was a big 40 fan. It's kind of sad if you heard one been shut down for the last time i guess. Sometimes those engines had years of life left in them too.

    Long life English Electric :-)

  • Hey Phill ive never thought of it like that,it seems obvious that at some point all the past scrapped diesels where shut down for the "last time" but then some fall through the net and we get to tinker with them for the rest of there preserved lives,I love tinkering with big diesels,I get a buzz from bringing stuff "back to life" ,thanks for the comments

  • @philldavison yes they did i worked on them they would run for ever because they were over enginered sad to say good bye to the brutes blame the tossers in gov that decided to have locos built off shore they ruined it all regards kev x crewe loco works

  • Struth, nearly blew my wig off!!! Superb. Was the controller being opend and shut a couple of notches or do they just rev up like that? I bought a DVD recently about Toton works and was really looking forward to hearing a stationary 56 on a load bank being opend up, but the bloody presenter talked through most of it!! Another rare opportunity wasted! :( They could have probably sold the 56 footage on it own if they hadn't spoiled it.

  • Engine revs up from about half way on the controller but its hard to tell as 37's have notchless power handles,on this video I had opened the controller full to check the loco was getting full revs

  • Well,no talking over this one dude, listen to those 12 cylinders sing !!!!!

  • I love it!

Maybe they could fix a chair to the roof and sell tickets to ride up top!!? :)

  • What a bloody good idea !!!!!!! someone would pay a lot to do that lol

  • @31144 where do I buy tickets?????

  • Hellfire Thrash then shutdown straight after must be a big no no. 5* all the same!

  • Tell me why its a big No No dude and i'll tell you why your wrong...

  • well I'm only asuming its not the best practice to shut down the power unit after a high rpm run.... please explain. cheers

  • The lube oil for the turbo's isnt exactly "pumped" around the turbos, there are 2 needle roller bearings at either end of the turbo shaft, unlike a car turbo who's bronze bush is central, the bearings sit in there own housings which have their own seperate oil sump, the oil is picked up out of the sump by an oil throw disk which is connected directly to the turbo shaft, once picked up by the oil throw disk it is then directed through an oil gallery to the bearings,a labrynth seal is used to stop dirt

  • and soot contaminating the oil, also the seal is charged with 10 to 15 psi of control air to aid the sealing process

  • so the turbos pump their own oil?!

  • They certainly do dude, quite reliably aswell,if the turbo seizes no oil is pumped so whilst its running it gets all the oil in needs !!

  • That is seriously fuckin' HELLFIRE!! Would be even better in 'forward' rather than EO! Five stars ***** Nice bit of EE12CSVT thrash

  • Hellfire!

  • cheers Dave, she's running sweet now although A bank is still not quite right,I think its A3 still playing up,could be a pump or an injector

  • See what you mean, It looks smokier on one side on the other video

  • what provides engine lubrication? electric pump or engine driven pump?

Do u let the turbos spool down before shutdown?

  • Engine is initially primed with an electric pump for approx 2 mins before the engine is spun up,saying that I always wait for the oil prime pump to trip once the prime pressure reaches its limit, that way the engine virtually fires up first revolution,as for the turdo's,no they dont really need to be left to spool down as they have there own lube oil system which is seperate to the engines lube oil system

  • so what pumps lube around turbos?

    electric or engine driven pump?

  • See lastest post to explain, thanks for the questions

  • Also once engine is spun over a mechanical 2 stage oil pump takes over the lube requirements with a pressure limit switch knocking off the oil prime pump
