This is funny because this is becoming the standard accent in North American English, from L.A. to Seattle/Vancouver to the Midwest and even to the east coast (where it sometimes sounds more like a valley girl accent grafted on to a regional one, like Queens). And from what I remember taking my sociolinguistics course, teenage girls do tend to be the innovators in the development of standard varieties (dialects).

One of my old friends used to talk like that, funny thing was, she was from Iowa, not a valley girl at all...lol. Except for a few places when her English accent slips up, Catherine did a good job of that stereotypical valley girl
