  • I remember being just a little girl, five years old in 1997, telling my mom that I wanted to meet Karen Carpenter/go to a Carpenters concert, and my mom had to tell me she was dead -and had died almost nine years before I was born. That crushed me, my spirit, but that day, it made her singing all the more special to me. My dream now, and I'm soon coming to be living it, is to be a drummer, just like she was. R.I.P., Karen. You'd be 62 this year, if you were still here.

  • Thank you for posting this wonderful interview!

    --------Ellen

  • She sounds like alot of fun. Lover her speaking voice as well as her singing.

  • Too bad California has been invaded by illegal immigrants now. Los Angeles used to be nice.

  • Too bad California is full of illegal immigrants now. They've ruined the city.

  • Karen Carpenter would have been 60 this year.

I can only imagine how beautiful she would have been today.

I will always love her for all the music she gave to the world.

Always in our hearts here, Karen.

  • The best female voice in history !

  • Interesting her comment - that she did not really model herself on any other singer .. I think she is correct in her self-analysis .. she had a style of her own. You can point to one or two things that remind you of others, but not many.

  • I was in Great Lakes finishing navy boot camp when I learned of Karen's passing. I always was totally transfixed upon Karen's voice. The chemistry to voice, and arrangement is truly a gift for us all. Happy 60th Birthday.

  • @Desoto875 yes, her voice is mezmerizing

  • I was 20 years old at the time of Karen's untimely death, and only found out about it happening when I saw the headline in the Portland "Oregonian" newspaper the afternoon of Feb. 4th, 1983. It was a major shock to me at that time. She was, and still is, my favorite female vocalist.

  • ugh!! those goddamned shoulder pads of the 80s. they never did a thing for anybody!

  • whats that song at 1'50?

  • 2 de marzo de 2010, 60 aniversario de Karen Carpenter.

  • living in Downey, I was fortunate to have met her at our Dentist that we shared....very pretty and petite ....the Fall of 76.....always will remember that day....we spoke for a little while and she was very nice to this starstruck young man of 24!!!!!!!

  • @henry12397 u met her! O my gosh!! I´m 24 now...I wasn´t even born whenshe died...and I always feel bad about how she died and I would reallly love to meet her...I will....later...I know that...but...shes like mi idol!! <3 :D

  • I love love love those interviews...she was really a true person, she answers questions in natural way, no pretensions...she was saying what she really feels...in particular the part about her favorite song..."I need to be Inlove"...yah, it's really true, it's my first favorite song from her too...'coz of the lyrics..so real..=(

  • She was one of my Idols growing up. Because of Karen, I finally did become a Musician/Singer/Songwriter. Thank you, Karen - you were/are an Angel

  • karen, ahora estás más delgada?

  • Feb. 4, 1983. Si, Cardiac Arrest-Anorexia nervosa.

  • We black people also appreciate you and your work KAC. Rest in peace...we miss you much.

  • When I was a young girl, I wanted to sing like Karen Carpenter. When she died, I was barely 22 and I was devastated. RIP Karen. Your songs will live forever.

  • @Grlsinger47 Imagine if her brother hadn't trashed her solo work..she would have made a great solo artist. Anyone with ears can tell she was the real talent of the Carpenters

  • @Grlsinger47 more than her songs, her voice

  • wow!! this is the first interview that i heard her voice aside from her singing.

  • This is wonderful insight into Karen's personality. As beautiful a person as she was a singer. Like millions of others, I've missed her too. Thanks for posting these interviews!

  • The truth is........ there are no words that can describe how beautiful karen's voice really is.

  • thanks alot for this video!! It's great!!!

  • Ya murió? y de qué?

  • Ataque a el corazon.. causado pro anorexia.. perdon, soy colombiano pero solo vivia ahi por mis primeros 5 anos, no aprendi a escribir :P

  • One of Karen's favorite songs was "I Need to Be in Love" which sort of mirrored her real life, looking for and finding someone, only to find frustration in the end, I truly wish she had found that one true love, perhaps she would still be with us today if she had. But nontheless, we were blessed and are still blessed with a beautiful voice that lives on in her music and song.

  • That was also Karen's favorite song. She said she felt it reflected her life.

  • "I Need to Be In Love" - I can understand Karen's views on that song, it really is something extraordinary: the opening few lines - isn't it the truth? - just as Karen said in the interview

  • para mi ella es la paz espiritual que dios siempre proteja tu espiritu

  • Very happy Birthday to karen This woman was the God's chosen one in the land as(like) in the sky,she is very special, some day wanted to have the privilege of knowing her, exist and I listen to many musical one but the sound of this group is brilliant!! transmit something so special!! The only one that can do it and I am grateful eternally for it!!

  • we use to listen to her music alot when me and my friend were in treament for are ed

  • Thanks for showing us some great photos. That beautiful voice of hers is evident in her conversation. It's great to get the opportunity to hear what she had to say.

  • Karen was a beautiful woman! May she rest in peace!

  • quick to quit to the world i'm really miss when i listen your songs(all the time)

  • What a wonderful person and a beautiful voice. She will be forever missed!!

  • Karen, you rock to this day sweetie!

  • You know it's funny, when she talks she sounds so alive, outgoing, energetic, like she would be such a cool girlfriend to hang around, but in pictures she looks quiet and reserved. They don't do her justice!

  • well that's precisely anorexia...the secret, the denial the pretending nothing is going on, pretending it is a life style and pretending there is nothing dark with us...that's anorexia, so yes! her pictures do her justice because she was very ill, mentally very ill

  • God how i miss Karen, she was such an amazing person and singer..I still can't bring myself to listen to a whole cd of hers..it is still painful to think of her gone.

    Thanks for this tribute!

    Will love her always.

  • Her songs are nice...

  • I love all of her songs mostly the Hurting Each Other and I need to be Inlove. Great songs

  • Un muy buen video de Karen. Gracias de parte de todos sus fans.

  • today she has 57 years old!!

  • i love this video!!!! thanks so much for posting!!!

  • Boy I really miss her.

  • Karen personafies perfection in every sense, i love Karen, her voice had an effect on my unlike anyone elses. She truly had a GOD given gift. She is missed so much.

  • Charlie Tuna mentioned in an interview that Karen would call HIM if he didn't call her first thing in the morning on her birthday! He also mentioned that Karen arrived by herself at the station the morning of this interview....no agent, publicity people, etc. Just Karen. Charlie Tuna said that was quite rare for a celeb to do that. But she was apparently quite unaffected.

  • miss you every day Karen...

  • Karen was, is and always will be an angel. I cried when she died. RIP Karen.

  • I miss her so much. A Song For You - gets me every time. She has a dedicated legion and a Amazing Legacy. I will always keep my promise to her.

She is greatly loved and greatly missed.

  • Wow! this is ... incredible. Great someone type it. Thanks for shearing with us.

"I Need To Be In Love" it's my favorite Carpenters' songs. And you can sense that she is emotionally involve with the lyrics... Probably she sings for the angels right now...

    Again thanks for sharing it.

  • Complete lack of synch between the words and the pictures (in fact, the pictures are a big distraction). I stopped watching and enjoyed the words.

  • Karen Carpenter was given a gift and was a gift. We get caught up in our "idols" of today. Let's make sure we don't forget the greats of the past.

  • Fantastic. Boy was Karen in denial. 89 lbs. I have a theory about her. She thought she was fat. When she was behind the drums I'll bet it didn't bother her. Then some idiot says go out there and sing and we'll get another drummer. Big mistake. She loved the drums and she loved to sing. The Carpenters were great !!

  • Wonderful!!! to have seen this. She was incredible. Thank you for sharing

  • happy 57th Birthday to a wonderful Lady & person, I really miss you
