Certain Captains can do certain things. Peach can talk to plants. Wario can open chests. I can't remember what Yoshi, Mario, and DK can do, but yes.

So you CAN pitch while in the batter's view. Also do you start out as Mario whenever you do challenge mode, or do you select the team captain? And are the unlockable fields in challenge mode?
