  • Just for record: "Die Wacht am Rhein" is not an imperial prussian song, but a song from a south-west German poet, who wanted to defend the region against the french ambitions of conquering the German territory on the west side of the rhine. It has nothing to do with imperialism or even national socialism.

  • Thank you for beautiful song! Doshisha university in Kyoto, Japan ( sister school to Amherst college, Boston) also use this song as a college song, " One purpose Doshisha" because they had some teachers from Yale when they were deciding the college song. Doshisha has Glee club as well.

  • Gotta love a respected University singing a song to the tune of "Fuck You France (This River's Ours)". :)

  • *kicher* Die Wacht am Rhein

  • Ach, this brings me back to the good old days. I made a lot of good friends those four years. I'll miss them all, especially Heinz, Hans, and Wilhelm. We had our ups (trip to Paris) and downs (Stalingrad). I even got into the skull and bones (Mein Ehre heisst Treue). Regards from Argentina.

  • Someone keeps marking down references to "Wacht am Rhein", so I'm changing the settings to display all comments.

  • @EmmanuelQuartey Very good and gentlemanly of you, sir! Danke schön!

The history of the tune is as fair a topic, in my opinion, as the beauty of this performance, and, therefore, as worthy to be discussed.

Did you film or participate in this performance yourself, Mr. Quartey?

  • I only filmed the video, but three friends of mine were in the performance. They were seniors, and this was their final performance with the Glee Club before graduating.

  • @EmmanuelQuartey That's because it's the melody of "Die Wacht am Rhein", duh.

  • Who is it that has such a problem with the history of this old Prussian tune? Someone with a good head adapted OUR SONG for use at Yale. It is beautifully sung here, but if there is such a problem with the origin you should stop playing it! Also, whomever is erasing all the comments about Die Wacht am Rhein needs to grow up!

  • hey, this is the "die wacht am rhein" melody, it's stolen!!!!

  • Yes it is - it would also appear that someone is not impressed by this. All comments relating to this designate spam....
