It's terrible that this had to happen, but it did, the Republicans fought for something they deserved, the freedom of their native land again. I am not taking sides, but I see that Loyalists and Orange Order members always seem to play the victim card when it comes to things such as orange marches through nationalist areas of Ardoyne. These things did most certainly happen, and instead of holding grudges, let's work together to build a new peaceful Ireland/Northern Ireland.

The reason N.ireland has so many protestants as it is closer to the british mainland than the south. And this was the excuse given to the irish as to why N.Ireland should remain british. By 1921 N ireland was mostly protestant. . Here Catholics were denied certain rights and people protested over this. Protestswere ignored and future protests became more violent. Then all hell broke loose.

I understand that the minority Protestant feel threatened if the Catholic majority has the power over Ireland..perhaps if the government is seperated from the church and there are laws to prevent discrimination..it would be better?
Seperating churches from government and offering a non-confessional education would be a major step. Already there is mixed prot-cath schools but it would be good to give people the opportunity to identify themselves as neither...

Yes they are indeed settlers from 350-400 years ago, but that is a long time, and if your ancestors lived there that long you would regard it as home. Indeed a good example of that is america. They regard somewhere that was settled much more recently (and taken from the natives) as their home.
It is completely normal that they consider this place as their home, and protestants would be integrated and accepted in a unified state if only they gave up on the idea that they are under a constant threat.
The republican flag after all symbolizes the peace(white) between catholic(green) and protestants(orange).
It would also help if the protestants learned more about the history of the protestant people in ireland and how a lot of irish nationalists leaders were protestants.

The reason N.ireland has so many protestants as it is closer to the british mainland than the south. And this was the excuse given to the irish as to why N.Ireland should remain british. By 1921 N ireland was mostly protestant. . Here Catholics were denied certain rights and people protested over this. Protestswere ignored and future protests became more violent. Then all hell broke loose.

(If we, as the biggest Empire the world ever knew, had chosen to throw all our might against the Irish, there would now just be a hole in the ground where Ireland once stood!) The British government originally assumed that an independent Ireland was just that - independent - but stepped in in Ulster to protect IRISH from IRISH.

Throughout the Troubles, thousands of Irish people came to England, Wales and Scotland, to escape OTHER Irish people; including those from Eire (living in a clerical state where people were unable to obtain birth control or a divorce can't have been everyone's cup of tea.) I dont think its prudent to swear allegiance to Britain while living in Ireland...as Americans no matter where theyre from..come and become American citizens..our loyalties are for the country of the United States..as far as the Native Americans..they are given preferential treatment into Universities and there are numerous programs for them to integegrate into society comfortably...but most choose to stay on their given land to do as they please.

Yes they are indeed settlers from 350-400 years ago, but that is a long time, and if your ancestors lived there that long you would regard it as home. Indeed a good example of that is america. They regard somewhere that was settled much more recently (and taken from the natives) as their home.

The republican flag after all symbolizes the peace(white) between catholic(green) and protestants(orange).
It would also help if the protestants learned more about the history of the protestant people in ireland and how a lot of irish nationalists leaders were protestants.
