well at the time, there wasn't the proper recording technology for that... they recorded as a band their first 5 records from 1962 to 1965 as a band, then used 2 track tapes for rubber soul and revolver (1965 - 1966), then used a 4 track tape on sgt peppers and magical mystery tour (1967) and since the white album till the end (1968 - 1970) they had all the modern technology they needed...
