Lyrics (High complexity old Austrian Yodler Song) "For whoever knows the area where they burn the iron, where the Enns (river) rushes through the valley, yes, with full joy the heart is beating in the chest, as the echo resounds through mountains and valleys." Note: After this performance, it became difficult for the long-established Yodeling experts to argue that M.O. was merely a very successful entertainer, as this is an "advanced" song, requiring considerable skill, as you can hear.
@Oesch47 It would be cool, I think, if we could find relatives of ours living in Europe. I'd like to connect with those places my family came from. We tend to forget our "old-country" origins here in America, but when we do that, I think we lose something precious.
This is part of a performance by three female yodelers (Melanie+Angela Wiedl+Herlinde Lindner) and the piece is called Erzherzog Johann Jodler (Archduke Johann's Yodel) It dates from 1830.
@prosperousyogi I remember looking at an old Barton County, Kansas record showing my great-grandfather Franz Peschka, arriving in Kansas from Austria, if I remember correctly, in 1882. Melanie's singing of this song from Austria is very close to home for me, and I want to learn more about my family's European roots now.
There is a complete version of this performance. I like Melanie a lot, but the other women are also yodelqueens. Plus the version is normally from October 2009 and takes around 7 minutes. I prefer original versions.
@Svenovich1 I have seen and heard the original 7-minute version and it is worth watching! The other two ladies seem to be welcoming Melanie into their ranks with open arms, and they seem deeply happy to have a young singer in the next generation to carry this music forward. Things like this mean a lot.
Such a pretty song!

@Oesch47 Nice to "meet" you! We share a lot of favorite music artists, you and I. Are you of any relation to Melanie and her family?

@DougDreamCatcher Well technically all Oesch's are distantly related but I'm not directly related. I'm American haha.

I have never heard a yodel that was beautiful, until now. The first time I heard this one, it got a few tears out of me.

This is the anthem of the southern Austrian state of Styria and should be labelled as such. Love it!
