Hey man just a quick question, im looking to upload drum covers with a good audio and good visual camera, does this camera hold up well to loud noise at all or does it go distorted? Cheers!
@valiantfan93 I haven't actually tried it in those types of conditions. However, it has a very aggressive limiter built into the input of the mic... so I feel confident this camera will work in that situation.
Very instereded in this camera as a long time owner of a Lumix FZ28. I absolutely loved the FZ28 for it's long zoom and amazing "MEGA O.I.S." image stabilization (which soundly kick's Canon's ass I might add). I've now 'upgraded' to a Canon SX20 IS which has amazing stereo mics, but the OIS is severely lacking when compared to the older Panasonic. So I might pick up the ZS3 so I'll have a 'pocketable' camera with 720p recording and a fairly long zoom.
@NoxTekDotCom Thanks for your insight! Get the ZS3, you'll love it! However, they do have the updated version, I think the ZS8 or something. Same camera but with GPS tagging and Manual controls. I would suggest putting your money toward that. I even saw it at costco for a good price.
Interesting, when I started my camera, the first thing was the language that I had to set. No clock =| But that's probably because it was already used before for showing?
What the camera really does is to make things a lot far away of what they really are (when it is on 1x) and then when you zoom in up to 12 x you can only get as close as you would normally see with your own eyes without any camera. I don't know if i made myself clear. What a big dissapointment about that.

I just bought the Lumix ZS3/TZ7 and i have a complain. My major interest was the HD video and the 12x zoom (i have nothing to say about the photograps, they're amazing quality) but the big zoom you can watch in videos here on YT is no such thing.
I am not a tech guy so I do not understand what makes the stereo feature good? Better sound I am guessing? I just ordered a Lumix ZS3, can't wait to use it.How many pictures and videos (30 min videos) can a 16 GB hold ? Thanks if I get an answer. Nice job with this video, informative.
Yeah, the Dolby certified stereo mic is awesome! The battery life isn't too hot especially when shooting HD video. I've had it fully charged and went out for 5 hours taking nothing but pics and video, by the end of the 5 hours i had about 1/2 battery left.
What settings do you think is best for low light conditions on the tz7? mine always come out with the backgroud too dark and the person too light. any tips?
Based on the short time I owned my SX200 I can say I really enjoy the ZS3. In a few ways. I didn't really shoot out the quality per say against one another. For videos the ZS3 wins hands down. It uses the AVCHD Lite codec and has a higher quality microphone. It also auto focus' and does so in macro as well. So I based my decision of that alone. The price of the ZS3 is better than the SX200 and I prefer it.
Hey, you're welcome! Thanks for the feedback. As far as the mechanical noises I know what you're talking about. Goto panasonic and make sure you have the latest version of the Firmware as those noises were addressed. Even after I updated my firmware I still hear mechanics especially when zooming in and out. I think that's just the nature of the beast. Given the ZS3 sports the Dolby Certified Stereo mic it has a pretty aggressive compression ratio on it, which will pick up a lot noise.
That's a good question. A little hard to answer to be honest. It all depends on the camera's point of view as far as the Stereo Effect you're getting. For example if I'm filming a Stop sign and someone to the left of the camera talks (out of the shot) then you'll hear that person in your left speaker more. So for me, as an audio major, I'm all about the stereo mic. For concert's I can see it being slightly problematic given the above example. Other than that, I love the quality.
@Paloliman I was in the same boat. The big differences are the HD capabilities and the Stereo Mic. If you think your gonna find use for those features, then get the ZS3, if not, stick with the ZS1. You can find the ZS3 all over for about 250.
The guy in the camera store told me I had to have a Mac to use this camera in HD??
I only have windows XP Im going to buy this camera today, I sure hope this works, I have Pinnacle but that probably wont work, where can I get Vegas Video?
That guy was dumb. You can play the raw .mts file (which is an AVCHD file) with VLC player. To edit the footage, i'm not sure what Codecs Pinnacle recognizes, but I use Vegas Video 9.
I think I have a lemon. I will be exchanging it right away. The indoor photo quality is really bad. Outdoor is not much better. My HD movie mode works OK but doesn't look anything like yours. I am using a fast Scan Disk SD card as well. What are you using to edit/transfer AVCHD lite to your computer? Mac or PC? Thanks.
That's too bad. I hope you've gotten the issue taken care of. To answer your question: To transfer I just plug the camera in and use the PC USB mode. To Edit I use Vegas Video. I'm using the AVCHD Codec, and I'm on a PC.
wow great review! i'm still having a hard time deciding between this camera and canon sd 970. btw, what song is that in the beginning of the video? thanks
Thanks man, I appreciate it. I was in the same position and had a chance to have a hands on with both. The reason I chose the lumix was because it auto focused while shooting video, and macro at that!
The song is a ditty I wrote up. It's being recorded to and put together as we speak!
thansk for the reply, and yer mate, i absolutely love it! i love taking pictures and recording video clips at concerts, and this was perfect for it! i've put a few vids on my channel, have a look if you want ; )
I was just wondering if this camera has just as good picture quality as it does video quality as i am a keen photogrpaher and quality is really important for me. The videos on this badboy just speak for themselves, amazing quality!
The picture quality is amazing. I'm not sure how much of a professional photographer you are, or even what you're looking for in a camera. But for my uses, that be taking random pics of myself my buddies and when I go out or whatever, the quality is great!

Hi, Thanks for this video and keep up the great work.
I have a question you might be able to answer, I have this camera and now on the 3rd one because what I thought were faults appear to be standard.
When I record a video in a quiet room and play it back I get lots of mechanical sounds which I now think could be auto focus doing its thing
Also every couple of secounds I am getting a low sounding beeping noise aswell which I am not sure about.
Any help would be great
