Man, today, I was shot inside a Ka-50 with AAA fire... I normally bail out, but the aircraft is so armored, that I managed to fly 46 klicks and land it where I started. And guess what, hydraulics failed, shkval failed, trimmer went out of commission, and for the main course; the gears got stuck.. Landing her IRL is tough, but if you do it, you are a BEAST!
@1SpiritOfTheWarrior1 Sorry but you overrate the chance of blade collision by this aircraft. It can make loops and has 4Gforce maneuvrability and it has never happend.
@SlimMetal75 not a stupid question. And look at the distance between the rotor blades, top and bottom, a huge distance, probably to avoid that possibility.
@warriorofsteel01 - I would prefer to be in a Longbow. Tighter/more effective sensor integration, radar (a big deal,) and more modernized weapons. Although the Ka-50's Vikhr has a greater range, it's a laser beam-riding weapon; the Ka-50 must provide tracking for the missile. The AH-64D's Hellfire is fire-and-forget, meaning the Longbow pilot can fire the missile, then break line of sight with the KA50.
The cool thing about the KA-50- maneuverability, is not really a factor.
@aaron8862006 maybe maneuverability of KA 50 be enough to avoid air-to-surface Hellfire or not. But KA don't need fire Longbow with Vikhr, he have Vympel R-73 and Igla for it. Both are air-to-air and of course fire-and-forget.
@saitruemoose - Your English is fine! No helicopter is maneuverable enough to avoid a missile, really... but the R-73 is a definite advantage. Though from what I hear, the Ka-50 almost never carries it.
@aaron8862006 about avoiding missiles wiki says: "In 2006, an Apache helicopter was downed by a Soviet-made Strela 2 (SA-7) in Iraq. The Apache is typically able to avoid hits by such missiles but in this instance it did not". So helicopter can avoid Strela which fly faster than Hellfire and(i think) have better maneuverability.
@saitruemoose - Countermeasures and terrain masking (hiding behind objects/hills.) It's not "dodging" an SA-7. That thing has a pretty big warhead and is pretty darn maneuverable.
@georgesouv now I know why, I think. most helicopters have only one set of rotors, so what happens is that the motion causes a spin on the aircraft. so , to compensate, they have a tail rotor that pushes in the opposite direction, to eliminate that turning or spinning motion. But the KA 50 helicopter has two rotor blade setups, and they go in oppositte directions so they compensate themselves, and no tail rotor is required.
Best Attack Helicopter ever. Strongest armor, weaponary and survivability. Fastest, most maneuvrable and lethal ever built. Can attack 4km far with his oversized barrel canon.
@chEboyfromkavkaZ Hey dumbass !! your shitty AH-64 were created by our Russian engineer ! his name is Igor Sikorsky..You should look it up in the google.. don't say such bullshit anymore ..
She looks like a damn shark O.O
I wish the poor bastards on the business end luck. Sad that the Russian air force operates so few of them, but they ARE expensive.

По маневренности и "живучести" Ка 50 равных нет...Здесь он более похож на рептилию - даже потеряв хвост, всеравно остается в воздухе....

they should build ka-50 with the kind of rotor that Sikorsky x2 has... that way any chance of blade collision would be reduced to a minimum ....

Might be a stupid question, but is there ever any chance of blade slap in extreme flying conditions? Great video. . . .

It is indeed possible for the two coaxial rotor blades to impact one another due to pilot error.

The coaxial rotor choppers need no tail rotor. Two sets of rotors rotate in opposite directions to balance the angular momentum.
