You know what sucks? I did this, took 3 hours to get set it up, got it perfect on the first try, and was about to render an animation when suddenly, Blender stops responding and the choice "wait for program to respond" was not on the warning menu.
I found out the problem, with the cube appearing. You have to have the normals facing the right direction, you know, pressing W then flip normals, or try Ctrl+N... The video is great by the way.
dude, i foolowed your steps perfectly, but the glow line is always there, even when its above the cup, and the box that parents to the glow is visible even though i made it so it doesnt render. can you help ?
oh god, im sure that was great but so much pointless talking... couldnt you have just made a simpler version to explain just the technique. a whole minute to pick a blue colour?wtf im still left with no idea why things work.
@NionsChannel hi thx for the tutorial, i found it very helpful. however, the cube still shows up in the render. why is this happening? i followed everything in the tutorial. also, as soon as i add the boolean modifiers everything gets very slow and laggy. why does this happen? pls reply back when you get the chance, as i would very much appreciate it. thanks again! (PS, do you know any other cool special effects for blender?)
So you turned of the renderability and you also tried different boolean settings? I don't know what else could go wrong... well you can try to move the cube to a different layer, which isn't rendered. But I bet it's because of the boolean settings again.
The modifier can consume a lot of performance and it can become laggy... thats normal. But once you've got the correct settings you could disable it in the interactive display.
And of course I know quite some more special effects ;)
@NionsChannel Im with them, Followed exactly but the cube is still rendered. The cube seems to be the same as the object...as if its a parent, or its the same object...but its obviously not.
this was an amazing tutorial. top quality all the way. i did run into rendering issues with the glow object. it rendered out with gray artifacts. i will email you about it.
It's the same animation, with the same composite only into the other direction. You can either duplicate the cup and the cubes or move them while they're invisible.
Great tutorial, but i have a problem with the boolaen errors. To rid of them a made a big cubes, but I still can't get rid of errors with the second smaller cube. It creates me also parts of cube far away from the cup at any size of it. I tried moving it but it didn't help. Could you help me? I use blender 2.49 a
I have a question. with me when i render the image the box didnt dissapear even when i clicked on that button with cup1 and then that icon? please help BTW nice tutorial
Thank you it is working but now i have another question when you add the ID Mask you choose 1 in it and then connnecet it to the viewer but when i do that i have a black image with nothing white in it. BTW i use Suzzane to teleport. please help.
This is very weird for me. When I render the cube is still there. And, I tried to put the cube into another layer but, one cube is still there. And it's attached to the cup. And if I go into Edit mode the cube disappears and only the cup can be edited. How do I get rid of that cube? :(
I tried, i had alot of problems while following the same steps as you. First off when i set the Glows boolean value to diffrence it stayed large like a cube. Also a second cube was made from making the cup linked to the cube in boolean and i couldnt get it to go away or render in a diffrent layer without effecting the cup.
Just try out the other two possible boolean types. I don't know why, but the type you need often differs from object to object. It could have something to do with the normals.
You listen. If ,,disintegration] cube still render You change in boolean(cup)from union to difference

I just see black on my viewer node in the UV/Image Editor. Is that breaking or can I just not worry about it and go on?

It's possible that its not the box, but the cup with a wrong boolean settings. There were some similar complaints before.

You have to set the pass index of your monkey first. That was the last thing I did in the first part.
