My step daughter was a pageant girl. She loved the attention. She really didnt care about the popularity. She love the competitions and the dress up aspect of it all. she grew out of it around age 14. but she looks back at it with amazement. as do all of us. she accomplished a lot, and has lots of trophies to show for it. it was a job for us, and just plain fun for her. it is what it is, stop trashing pageants and what they represent.
