Jacob can't kill him, yet put him in a situation that would without a doubt kill a man. He became the smoke monster while taking away a part of the negative aspect of the source. Thing is from what I've gathered, he was initially not evil and jsut wanted to leave hte island and what was out there. When he foudn a way his fake mum fucks up the well, and kills hte people he was warned to not hang aroudn with. Of course he is goign to be pissed, and he knows she kill their real mother. I'm more disappointed with the incredibly lame explanation for why they can't hurt each-other: it was just 'set' that way by a random woman we've been given no context into.
