I have really like the Dremora Lord as well, i got a staff from a quest that summons one. The problem with relying on him all the time though is that you aren't getting skill points for your weapons and spells.

By the way, dremora lords will actually steal items lying around, one of my two dremora lords (yes you can summon two if you get the twin souls perk) stole the staff of magnus gauldson or w/e its called that you get during the quest for the winterhold college -_-. I had to do the whole dungeon over again to get it back D:
