  • She is so lively and her smile looks so genuine! :) I can't help but smile along with her.

  • Actually love this song <3<3!!

  • This is amazing and that dress is to die for!!

  • This is super good, but am I the only one who has noticed, her mouth is HUGE!!

  • I can't wait to hear the Glee version next week

  • She has crazy eyes.

  • I love Elena, they choose her despite her accent cause shes so talented, i recomend to see her performance of Edit Piaff, Incredible and powerfull, her voice is really strong , her body is as tiny as Madonna but really powerfull voice. She is argentinean so tha's why to perform Evita is so special and unique for her.

Sorry cause English is also not my main languagge. Julian

  • Lip Syncing at its finest.

  • I wish she had more power to her voice in the whole "And if ever I go to far/It's because of the things you are..." sequence.

  • her voice is so addicting.

  • Sounds IDENTICAL to the 2006 Evita recording. Did they just play "Buenos Aires" off the CD and mime?

  • @adam4757 Yep.

  • the singing in this particular version is horrendous

  • Patti, Elena and Madonna are far... the bests evitas... Am I wrong?

  • @JuanSeCG96 Yes, you are. Madge is one of the weakest.

  • Id love to see this song sung and played out by a young fella.

  • It's about time someone ACTUALLY pronounced "Buenos Aires" correctly! The only other person I can think of who actually says it right is Sara Ramirez.

I'm sick of hearing "Bway-nisssss Air-ayssss!" Ruins it! Hahaha

  • Oh gosh, she's so obviously lip syncing...

  • finally someone who knows how to pronounce buenos aires!

    and dot said buenos ARES

  • SARA RAMIREZ FOR EVITA!

  • @ligerz4 YESSSS!!!

  • She is the best... Just amazing.

  • Can't wait to see her in the broadway revival!

  • Wow she is verry goood!! I love her...

  • Wow she is just amazing!!

  • It's just such a pity it was written in english. I don't believe a word she's mispronouncing. Nice orchestrations though. Where's the speech about the polo match? Did they do EVITA or Evita redux? Evita mk2?

  • @robbiehrte66 if anything lol your THINKING its mis pronounced her spanish is perfect. SHES FROM ARGENTINA.

  • Personally, I think she's wonderful, but Patti Lupone is still Evita in my opinion.

  • Elana Roger is something special real shivers down the spine stuff what can i say but WOW

  • this chick owns... Rio De La Plata! GORGEOUS!!!

  • she has a massive mouth... also the tempo seems far too slow and i really dont like elena's articulation of most of her words - she is switching between a dodgy spanish accent and an even dodgier english one... this sucks

  • @euphogirl96 She has dodgy english because before this production she did NOT know English. If your gonna judge someone research first.

  • @euphogirl96 Dodgy? The woman is from Argentina. Spanish is her first language. I can see where there might be a prob with the diction but frankly I like her performance as much as I like Julie Covington's.

  • Elena Roger is Evita

  • Patti has the voice (a marvelous voice indeed), Madonna the looks, and Elena has both. In conclusion, who is the best Evita? Elena.

  • Who - like me - prefers her Evita to her predecessors' (Elaine Page & Patti Lupone)??

  • @binary0018 I prefer Elena always. I had the chance to see her in Buenos Aires when she did Mina Che cosa sei (singing in italian, really recommend to search for Io vivro senza te by Elena), I also saw her in Evita and Piaf, I heard her in diferent parts and I can tell she is just amazing. Don´t know much about Patti, but I saw Elaine Page in Evita and in Piaf, and really she wasn´t as good as Elena. Just my opinion ;)

  • she is amazing. I LOVE HER! i really hate when people say she doesnt compare to patti... patti's eva is laughable. elena is a native argentinean and i'd listen to her sing this a hundred times before i listened to patti once.

  • i have to mention the fact that no recording does any justice ti Elena Roger as EVITA. I was Lucky enough to see on her stage, all I can say is WOW, she has an amazing stage pressance, and it is easy to understand why the people of Argentina fell in love with Eva if is she was anything like this woman, tiny in height but so full of passion, Just amazing to watch.

  • @goddessofcoruscant Eva wasn´t a bitch...the only reason you say that it´s because all you know about who she was it´s from this play, which itsn´t historicaly correct at all! So if you´re you going to say things like that please read a little bit more about argentinan history....if you don´t want to then shut up....Aguante Elena Roger! ...Elena is amazing! she sings from her heart and you actually believe every word she says...after all she´s from argentina and we have many talented people

  • @silchu70 Sorry, but I am Argentinian and Eva was a total bitch. The corruption and nastiness associated with her and her amoral husband has filled enough books over the years. She stood on so many people on her way to Peron's bed and treated them all with contempt, even when her star was waning. Thank goodness she had her poor descamisados..........who treated her like a goddess, despite her promising much and delivering little. We do agree on one thing though........Elena Rogers rocks.

  • I agree. I just don't think Elena Roger will play well on Broadway. People are used to Lapone quality vocals and Rogers is not nearly as strong. I think we need to not bash Madonna. She is a pop star who took on a BIG role in Eva Peron and did a good job for someone with little experience. She also sold movie tickets, which was the goal. She wanted the role, the fought for it and you really need to give Madonna a A- for effort.

  • she seems to "talk" the lyrics rather than sing them, she is definitely unique..but i wish they wouldve chosen some1 different to head of the new york revival in '12

  • she is stunning!!!!!!!!!! sure she has a big mouth but i think its cute on her lol plus the sound that comes out of that voice is INCREADABLE!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I think Elena Roger has a great voice, but she didn't want to play the part as written. She was uncomfortable wanting to play such an unlikable woman. Only Patti played her accurately, as the bitch Eva was.

  • ACA HAY TALENTO 100% ARGENTINO.

  • You know, at certain points in this clip Elana Roger looks exactly like Patti LuPone. She's a wonderful Evita in her own right though.

  • she is stunning!!!!!!!!!! sure she has a big mouth but i think its cute on her lol plus the voice that comes out of that voice is INCREADABLE!!!!!!!!!!!

  • beautiful song... one of the best of this musical

  • Perfecta, Roger !!!

  • she sings and dances very well!!

    I love it!!

When i'm watching this video i look only at her,she is amazing!!!!

  • She's the first Evita I've heard who actually pronounces the name "Buenos Aires" correctly. Who'd have guessed it would take an Argentine to do it right? ;)

  • what you say is an incorrect pronunciation is just the accent of a non-Argentine native.

  • Listen to Julie Covington on the original Evita LP from 1974 - she also pronounced it correctly, and she's English! She was also the best singer of all the Evitas...

  • I LOVE THIS EVITA!!! By far the best one of all. Too bad that she's lip syncing this though. This is the official 2006 London Cast's Recording. I love her voice!

  • Love the way she pronounces Florida, Corrientes, 9 de Julio, she really feels those emblematic streets. That´s something you will never get from Patti, Elaine, or even Madonna. When Elena sings "beautiful town I love you" is 100% believable. :)

  • @goriandmusic - an orgasm. Now that's one you will never get from the voices of Elaine Page, or Madonna! Patti Lupone "A New Argentina" still makes me quiver

  • @goriandmusic stfu

  • @MrGrevy why do you say that? It´s just an opinion you have no need to be agressive.

  • @goriandmusic I dunno I'm a troll what do you expect?

  • She Has A Very Big Mouth

  • alot of the people who played this role had big mouths, which is a good thing =D

  • she's so small! i like the ending.

  • and as I was going to say b4 eye say all the loonie coments...this girl on here is great dancing and singing

  • I have to wonder if ANY of the hate mongers on here have ever sang this or anyother role on stage on in movies and have they recived oscar ot tony concideration....? Im guessing NOT

  • No one, not madonna, who can't sing a lick, or even Elena Rogers can do it like Patti LaPone. Patti owns it.

  • haar mond is echt groot :O

  • seems like she is talking more than singing

  • just wanted to say that i respect the comments u guys have made, i wasn't impressed seeing this on tv. But i was lucky enough to see the show live in London and this really doesn't do elena any credit or the cast. it was simply amazing. and she has the most amazing stage pressance. the revival really was breath taking.

  • What happened to all the fabulous dancing? Doesn't compare to the 1980 B'way version.

  • what do you mean? they dance the whole time

  • are you jokin madonna is horrendous she totally ruins the songs!

  • well you're clearly deaf!

  • so should we rebuttal by saying you're straight? o_O

  • live theatre is far different than a movie. when you are on stage, you don't get retouched every five minutes, you don't get to do a double or triple take and you are constantly ON... she is fabulous. you cannot compare apples to oranges. or soundmixers and cameras to live theatre.

  • I´m out of the bussiness since 4 years. But I have to say...sorry, I can do it better.

  • LOVE Elena. Best Evita that I've heard....probably because she's from Argentina.

  • Elena Roger es argentina y es la mejor interprete para Evita, y lo opino como argentina que se identifica con una evita que conoce Buenos AIres porque vive ahi y no una Evita que ni siquiera puede ubicar a Buenos Aires en el globo terraqueo.

  • OK! They're turnin it out!

  • Shes miming.

  • She's fantastic.

  • The best Evita I've seen on Youtube. Better than Patti Lupone even. I just believe this woman to be Hispanic. I've grown up in a Hispanic household my entire life, and this song made me dance like any version of this song should do and to be quite honest, neither Patti's nor Madonna's did it for me.

  • Yes, you´re right. Elena is Argentine. xx

  • i agree (Madonna embodied the role, but with a whole team of make up artists, resting, second and third takes and sound mixing...it is easier to do) but live on stage, Elene is phenominal. her dancing is icredible too. you totally feel or Eva.

  • i dont like her

  • It's not Madonna... it's Elena Roger

  • madonna? are you for real.

  • Can not get over this choreography. So good.

  • Não me canso de ver Elena Roger atuando , dançando e cantando .Ela é simplismente maravilhosa.A melhor, a mais linda , a mais vibrante.

    Emocionante.

  • mabey not as vocally powerful as patti lupones but she does have personality :)

  • Are you jealous? Just because she can sing, dance, and act better than you doesn't mean you have to put her down! She is fantastic and a true performer! Why would Andrew Lloyd Webber give a part to someone annoying?

  • she is from argentina

i know one of the guys dancing and she can hardly speak any english

  • Musicals are kind of cool

  • She doesn't look like madonna, is that a wig

  • duh... evita came out way before the madonna movie. so no thats not madonna

  • is she singing alive????

  • alive?? Yeah... she's not dead, hahah!

    But she isn't singing live...

  • jajaja...

    Sorry ...

    Im from Argentina =D

So my mother tongue is spanish... =D

... you know what I meant...

  • Ella es Argentina :D

  • PainWds, I guess it's just you! haha... she has an excellent spanish pronunciation because, in fact, she's Argentinian =) . "Buenos Aires", "Río de La Plata", "Florida", "Corrientes"... all perfectly pronounced with a native Argentinian accent.-

  • ok so its the accent im hearing then?

  • is it just me or is she pronouncing "Beunos Aries" wrong? or is it just her accent?

  • She's from Buenos Aires. I don't think she's pronouncing it wrong lol.

  • The lead dancer is teaching this dance at my school haha, its sooo cool :)

  • que ridículo. encima es sobre esa autoritaria peroncha.

  • I like Patti and Elaine more, they can really belt it out at the right times.

  • Are they seriously using the cast recording? Why is it that every live performance of this song on tv have to be from the cast recording?

  • The choreography is a little too camp, but Elena Roger triumphs!

  • Phenomenal! I hope no one kills me, but I think she is my favorite Eva. She just seems to suite the part better than Patti Lupone, Elaine Paige, and Madonna. Absolutely outstanding!! The other thing that impresses me is that English is not her first language, yet you can't really tell because she sings it with such ease and confidence. Awesome!

  • I'm with you, Elena's my favourite. She's just perfect in the role.

  • likewise.... i totally agree with you!

    nothing is contrived with elena

patti and elaine are amazing but elena outshine them all.

Although Louise Dearman and Rachael Wooding have done/are doing an amazing job in the tour

  • Completely agree with you. I saw a performance 2 years ago and loved it, she was magnificent. An inspired bit of casting; she made the revival what it was.

  • I said it before and I'll say it again... Sarah Palin.

  • I saw the tour last week in Hanley, with Louise Dearman as Eva, and after seeing this, Elena is SO much better. She is such an amazing singer aswel as a fab dancer!!!

  • i was in the show you saw! i was an extra and wasn't credited but i still got a tenner out of it! i was one of the 2 that held the banner in New Argentina!- well unless you saw it on 2nd thursday when i was behind the person who held the banner bcoz her parents were in that night lol

Louise was so lovely and i got a pic with Seamus (Che) and Mark (Peron)!!!

  • My housemates boyfriend is Magaldi. He lived with us while he performed in Hanley, and Liverpool

  • you mean james? the one who won the search for a star thing? he was lovely- very strange mouth when he was singing though! i was always next to him when singing Requiem For Evita!

Could you see our Peron in this video? Coz he was in this cast!

  • Yeah - he did 4 years training at the stage school i'm at. He graduated June, I graduate this June. Scary stuffff!!!

I have never noticed the mouth haha, I doubt i'll see it again but next time I see him perform i'll have a look haha. So how come you were an extra in it, you at a college doing musical theatre or anything?

  • im at Staffs Uni doing drama- i think we were just a common place to look for extras really...lol

  • I live in Stafford, haha. Small world. Well i'm a student from Liverpool but come from Stafford! I know a load of people at Staff Uni! But none doing drama unfortunatly!

  • The Spanish inflection in her voice is a little offputting. I love the song, but have seen it performed better.

  • yeah evita was argentinian idiot!!!! well everyones a critic except those who perform they can usually (unless consumed by jealousy) aknowledge brilliance.

  • As a performer myself, I accept that it is easy for people to criticise a performance but an honest opinion can be productive.

  • Shonagh Daly performed Buenos Aires recently in Hyde Park during the concert for Andrew Lloyd Webber. Shonagh is absolutely amazing but a shame there is no footage of her performance.

  • I miss this cast. I miss Elena in the role.

  • Elena roger is absolutely fantastic.

    One of the best.

  • i have to say i dont like this - her accent is driving me crazy! i saw this in gaiety in dublin last week and the evita was amazing!!

  • I thought the same thing when I first heard her. I felt bad about thinking that, though - she's an artist in her own right and should be respected her talent. Her singing voice is beautiful. And she's the only true Argentine I've ever seen play the role! Patti LuPone will always be Evita for me, though.

  • yep evita was argentinian!!!!!not irish!!!!!!durr!!!

  • the woman playing evita is an awesome performer.

  • WONDERFUL PERPHORMANES!

  • Just came across these comments today (in prep for going to see a touring production of Evita this afternoon) ... but I saw Elena play the role in London a couple of years ago ... she was truly superb ... her dancing was of a superior class and she brough power and tenderness to the songs in all the right places ... by far one of the best Evita's there has ever been in my opinion

  • This is amazing.

    Hands down.

Anyone who claims otherwise is obviously uninformed.

She is an absolute firecracker, and this performance simply sparkles.

Simply a different kind of excitement and a different Evita than Patti's.

Patti is a huge huge belter. But Elena saves her belts for the big moments, while Patti just plain old belts.

  • I saw her in 2006 and loved it! She brought such honesty and passion to the role. And she's a terrific dancer and singer to boot. A wonderful night it was. Pity the show didn't have a longer run.

  • Does anyone else hear "Viva Los Vegas"?

  • Its probably her accent, she's argentinian.

  • I miss the great musical dance break as in the NY production, but this is great.

  • shes kinda in the middle in my book... not the best but not the worst either.

  • her voice is kind of like a cross between a french horn and a trumpet...i like it

  • HOLY CRAP she can DANCE! I LOVE how she belts out "Star Quality" at the end. Great idea!

  • I love the new orchestrations in the 2006 revival!

  • Excellence!

  • I like the dutch one the most. The dutch Evita is the best I ever seen!

  • Oh Get reall... The West End and Broadway Evita's will blow them away!!

  • All of them have a touch of star quality!

  • I like the netherlands version more! :)

But this one is also good ;)

  • this version is soooo much better than Madonna cuz she (i mean Elena Roger) has an accent..it adds to the spanishy song...the dancing is phenominal..i <3 this song...she has a really big mouth

  • please. her accent is the least of the things that makes her better than madonna. for one thing she can actually belt

  • Madonna's Evita was the worst.

Barbra Streisand should have done Evita.

I cannot imagine why she did not do the movie. It could have been her 2nd Funny Girl performance.

  • Streisand had reached the time where she was to old to do the role. it would have been like Lucille Ball doing Mame which was truly awful. Also, Streisand visually would not have fit the role. And as far as her dancing? Streisand has been exceptional in some roles. I don't think this would have been one of them. I agree with you concerning Madonna. I disagree with you in that I think the only person who would have been worse was you know who.

  • That's your opinion. Lucille Ball could not sing and that was critical to the sucess of the movie. Streisand, in my opinion, could have walked away with at least an Oscar nomination. What about the dancing? Buenos Aires is about the only number demanding heavy dancing. One number! Streisand's voice would have elevated the score. Sorry, Streisand IS STILL MY CHOICE AND MY OPINION.

  • Fantastic performance! A thousand times better than Madonna, though I still love Patti LuPone the best, I played Eva in my school's production of Evita last month, and our pianist recommended I finish the same way Elena does, and it definately worked better for me, cause I can't sing that low very well.

  • What do you mean her lovers part? That was all of Buenos Aires except Che's polo match section.

  • omg i am doing my solo to this for dance compeition next year and i am so excited!!!!!YAY

  • Whats Evuta about??

I liked Rachel & jessie singing it on I'd do anything

But this one is good to

  • the id do nething version frm jessi nd rachael was a whole lot betta!!!!!

  • i just recently saw evita. i have to say, i like elena roger's voice a looooot better than the one i saw. still loved it though.

  • wow... she's got a HUGE mouth!!!

  • i have done that

  • i was lucky enough to see this production twice, i loved it so much. i found elena perfect for the role, a real spine chilling performance!!

  • i was lucky enough to see this production twice, i loved it so much. i found elena perfect for the role, a real spin chilling performance!!
