Chet Thompson was a young guitar prodigy in 80's. What a great talent. Randy Rhoads meets Jake E. Lee. I love Chet's guitar work on this album, if my memory serves right, it was released in 1987.
wow! i had their EP back in the day on vinyl & only now listening to this do i realise what an amazing metal vocalist she is!! Wish they had more success.
Wow. I had heard OF Hellion, but this is the first time I actually heard them.
Strong stuff! That singer is awesome. She is such a light build but with such power and presence! (like a female Dio). I can see why he ended up managing them.
@4JayeP Ten seconds into the song Chet plays a diminished scale and i think...Hmmm, he sounds like Randy Rhoads. And then i read your comment; he did take lessons from Randy Rhoads, wow!
Honestly I don't know why Dio & Wendy didn't continue to help them. We did see Dio at Mates during the time but he never stepped in. I rem. Ann going over to Niji. I was constantly around Hellion during this time & at all gigs / practices. Yes they really were that tight of band and YES the shows were nothing less than AMAZING. I used 2 have all the live tapes & pics. Ann & the band were ALWAYS on and I mean that! It's a TOTAL Mystery to me why they never made it BIG during the 1980s.
@YogaArmy Wendy's focus was Paul Shortino and Rough Cutt, who were my friends. Hellion opened for Dio and Whitesnake. Hellion got the crowd on their feet right away. Whitesnake followed and were pissed because the crowd wouldn't stand up. The crowd was sitting down the whole show until Whitesnake played played "Fool For Your Lovin' No More." Dio was great and had a great show but Hellion stole the show for people that arrived early enough. After that nobody wanted Hellion as the opener.
@714HellBoy Yes you are right on there. The focus was on Rough Cutt and Paul. I was/still am a big Rough Cutt fan - they were an incredible band that really never reached their full potential - same w/ Hellion. Those early shows were amazing. Also all the early Hellion shows were amazing. Ann was always very high energy. Lots of very fond memories. I hear ya on that - I rem. Ann telling me a lot of stories. Chet's solo is pretty friggin amazing on this song!!!
@YogaArmy Wendy's focus was Paul Shortino and Rough Cutt, who were my friends. Hellion opened for Dio and Whitesnake. Hellion got the crowd on their feet right away. OMG! This brings back MAJOR memories LOL I worked w/ Ann & helped Hellion out a LOT during this time period plus I took guitar lessons for many years from Chet Thompson. I recently ran into the drummer Greg Pecka he's still the same cool Greg! I really worked hard to help this band make it and they really should have - the sucky thing is they couldn't get a gig as a opening act for a major artist and while I LOVE Dio during this time he really didn't help them - earlier he was involved.
Man it's so hard to find a chick these days that likes metal, especially in the midwest where I live. They're all into Fergie and Lady Gaga and all that trash.
Ann Boleyn is hot.Like Lee Aaron was hot. What happened to Boleyn?Lee Aaron is a jazz singer now.BTW,is it just me or was Lita Ford NOT hot?She could really play but I wouldn't be one of her groupies.Girlschool were pretty skanky too.
Ann Boleyn is now a civil rights lawyer but she still sings too, but is doing thrash these days. She has taken the place of Dawn Crosby in Detente (Roadrunner Records band from the 1980s that became Fear of God) since Dawn Crosby died.
Ann Boleyn just posted a blog that Hellion bassist Alex Campbell had a stroke. She is asking for people to include him in their meditations and prayers.
Was she a real life witch or is that just a urban myth ? The entire video was red-hot. Used to listen to this tape in my car at night during winter-time galavants !

Chet Thompson! That guy was insane. Played in WWIII as well. Definitely one of the hottest players on the Sunset Strip at the time. Chet Muther-f#@*kig Thompson!
i agree. most i hear are either trying to imitate angela gossow and that style is getting old. ann boleyn has a very original voice. now she is singing thrash in Detente. they are very good too.
Yeh she filled in for Dawn Crosby the original singer for Detente. Although Dawn can never be replaced, choosing ann over anyone else was the best choice.
Ánn Boleyn is singing in Detente (Fear of God) because their singer died. They are on tour in Europe and you can find video clips on youtube. But I don't think Hellion could play anyplace without Boelyn
From what I heard, Ann Boleyn (the singer) and CHet Thompson (the guitarist) both went back to college. Ann Boleyn finished up first. In interview she said that she didn't want to reform Hellion without the guitarists. So that is probably why she has been playing with Detente. But, she said that Chet will be done with college soon, so who know what will happen in the future.
Oh and Chet if you happen to read this, this is your old student Frank, the one who went off to the Marines for awhile and you hepled me fix the broken neck on my purple Ibanez. :-D I heard you are working at some studio locally, don't suppose you teach anymore? If you said you do I would start practicing again TODAY! Muchas gracias for all your teaching, man, you are incomparable.
In addition to Alice 'N' Thunderland, Chet was in some other band in between that and Hellion, but I never found out about it. Also he has at least one solo material album out, I have an old cassette tape with him on the front holding guitar upside down, GREAT stuff on there too, all instrumental. Self-titled, just Chet Thompson. Not only do you notice Chet sounds a little like Randy, I even noticed once in some of my MY playing, I sound a TINY BIT like Randy! He's my musical grandfather! LOL!
Don't forget also Kate from Belgium speed metal act Acid (early 80's)! Kate is my my favorite... I spoke with Ann two times, and she's an amazing person!
Mannnn!!! Like I posted elsewhere, Chet Thompson (lead guitar) was my guitar teacher for a number of years at Grayson's Tune Town in Montrose, CA., he learned from the great Randy Rhoads. I never realized it at the time, but taking lessons from this guy, I was in the presence of true greatness. A phenom, a maverick, a paragon, a savant. Damn I wish I had stuck with it! Oh, and yeah, Ann Boleyn is clearly a f'n HELLION, with that voice, wow!
Agreed, this guy's a great player. Even though I grew up in this era of metal, I never really got into this band (and I was a full-on metalhead), even though I knew of them and heard a couple of their tunes here and there. Looks like I missed out, especially on the guitar playing. I'll have to look around for more of him.
Check out if you can find it, a band called Alice `N' Thunderland. It was a new band Chet was in, lead singer a woman named Emi Canyn (was involved with one of Motley Crue guys), she has some seriously powerful vocals too. This band was in the mid-90's but never really took off due to some scandal between Chet and Emi (I think they were both married at the time). But he gave me a copy of their CD which saw some production in Japan. On it you can really see how his playing matured, virtuoso.
No way!!! 1st I find the upside guitar solo/the hand vid on here now this!!! it must be my lucky day,Hellion are awesome and this is my fave album of all time!!!!
Wow...cool video find--I didn't know "Hellion," had made a video for this...so cool... I remember being in the record store looking at the back of the album cover and thinking...I don't how this is going to be, but because of the song "Easy Action," I decided to give "Screams In The Night," a try; this is one of my favorite albums/cds of all time.
I don't suppose this is an Aaron who went to Glendale High, class of 93? I knew a metalhead from there, he actually inspired me to start playing guitar back in 9th grade one day in a wood shop class when he brought his guitar and amp and played Iron Man (Sabbath), hehehe.
The singer is singing in Detente (they later became known as Fear of God). If she can still sing as good as this, it might be very interesting. Detente was a very good band.
I agree. All of the musicians in the band during this line-up were outstanding. A lot of people don't know this, but the drummer was the original drummer of Dokken. The bass player was also famous in California and played in many of the best bands during the late 80s and early 90s. Personally, I think that Ann Boleyn was/is the best femal metal singer ever. And, Chet Thompson is on my top-5 of guitarists, right up there with Eddie Van Halen and Randy Rhodes.
I agree. Almost nobody knows who Chet Thompson is, but he is one of the best. I understand that he was a student of Randy Rhodes and nearly got the job playing with Ozzy Osbourne when Randy died.
