  • Garrett Saunders looks like Matt Robinson without moustache

  • I just read about the success of the "Find The Lost Gordon" operation yesterday. That's great news. From what I read, CTW didn't have someone lined up to play Gordon and hand-picked Saunders at the last minute in time to shoot the pilot. I'm guessing he already knew he wouldn't be in it for the long haul.

The article hinted that he had some personal problems that his family didn't want leaked. I also found a "gravesite" site that said he died in 1984 at age 55.

  • I'm kinda glad garrett saunders didn't get the role; he looks a little creepy.

  • His name is Matt Robinson.

    [Thanks reddit!]

[And Fight Club........... Damn, forgot the rules again!]

  • Garrett Hobart Saunders

  • #Found Garrett Hobart Saunders

  • @TheChavoMan The person who solved this mystery should get a very generous reward.

  • Didn't Greg Morris have a rather prominent gap in his teeth that Proto-Gordon here doesn't have?

  • This actor kind of resembles Greg Morris of Mission Impossible fame, but Morris was already doing MI and did so through the series' entire run, until the early 1970s. Greg Morris is an unlikely candidate.

  • I think it looks like Roscoe Lee Browne, New York stage actor who played a Shakespeare professor on the Cosby Show.

  • I'M SPARTACUS !!

  • @yarsmythe

Why are you watching youtube, Sparticus?

You should be out fighting a battle or something!

  • Oh jeeh! Those black folks sure can jive!

  • I think I may have an answer as to whom the person who played Gordon in the pilot of Sesame Street was. If I am not mistaken, it looks an awful lot like the actor Greg Morris, who was known for being on Mission Impossible, as well as being a celebrity panelist on the game show Match Game. Unfortunately, Greg died in 1996, so it might be a bit hard to ask him if that was him on the pilot. I hope this helps, and hopefully, I am right. Good luck either way.

  • @FL92002

Actually, he looks nothing like Greg Morris, to me at least.

    Sorry.

  • 0:09

That song was sampled in an MF Doom song, wasn't it? Or maybe it was Mad Lib...hmmm

  • white ppl cant dance lol

  • #FindGordon

  • @Showstoppah WT HAPPEN ?!!

  • Comment removed

  • Also, someone should make a GIF of 1:17

  • Someone should sample that beat from the beginning.

  • Its Cleavon Little, everyone.

  • Is Gordon still alive?

  • @666SATANFROMHELL Oh, it's our good old friend 666SATANFROMHELL watching some Sesame Street. Nothing strange here at all.

  • @zaper002 [Insert snappy comeback here]

  • @666SATANFROMHELL Well at least you have a username that people understand. I don't know how the hell I got mine.

  • @zaper002 Yeah, well I'm not a Satanist, anyway. I used to 'troll' people with this account, that's why. I had to use this account now since my main account got banned. I admit it's hard to argue with some people here without getting my username mentioned. :P

  • @666SATANFROMHELL I never thought you were either. I just thought it was kind of amusing too see someone with the account 666SATANFROMHELL commenting on a Sesame Street.

  • @zaper002 Welp, I also found it amusing when Sesame Street's Youtube was hacked and someone loaded the channel up with pr0nz......Well, not really. It's pretty sad.

  • so sesame street used to be in the ghetto? Didn't think they would have taken the white flight too

  • Someone needs to add dubstep to this. Just.. just to see what would happen..

  • @SonicStun it'd make a 10/10 video 0/10, gg

  • @HeyYoFabels sorry no, but keep hatin'

  • lol'd at the white guy dancing.

  • Who is Gordon? The mystery remains.

  • awwwww...Mr. Hooper!

  • The Mystery of Sesame Street.

  • #OPERATION WHERE'S GORDON

  • I hope they find this mystery man.

  • The beginning needs to be sampled and remixed with a hiphop beat.

  • Shaft?

  • Martin laurence?

  • Bill Withers?

  • @eruption257 No way.

Plus this guy has an accent.

  • errrybody must get stoned

  • 1:26 LOL

  • bert photo bomb at 1:20 !

  • Good that Bert doesnt look THAT retarded anymore.

  • I refuse to believe that this man was not on acid.

  • God this is so good.

  • OMG! MISTER HOOPER!!!

  • Ah, back in the old days when the dancing was horrible but the fun was great.

  • Ernie and Bert look a little run down lol.

  • Kanye West at 1:10

  • kid at 0:34 in the blue tshirt has all different kinds of swag

  • It's awesome how Gordon starts swinging his hips at first then remembers "oh crap it's a kid's show" and starts dancing white.

  • @sweetgreggo So you're saying "dancing white" is more appropriate for a kid's show?

  • @sweetgreggo Dancing white?

  • He's black.

  • I'm cracking up at Bert dancing past the camera with those odd, close-set eyes.

  • lookin like weezey?

  • 1:47 DANCE!

  • what does weavy mean? Btw my brother and I used to watch sesame street all the time and Mr Rogers. i was born in 73.:D

  • The white people look like they are swatting flies.

  • actually only the white people are bad at dancing

  • dancing makes people look foolish

  • the way they all dance... HAHAH

  • Bert does a great impression of the creepy alien thing from the David Hasselhoff video @ 1:18

  • Gordon is STONED!

  • Ernie and bert look so different ;)

  • Hey there, what's your face sitting in the same place

Staring at the TV looking kinda weavy

Getting kinda sleepy underneath your tepee

Time for problem pump up, everybody jump up

    Everybody dance

  • I wish an Afro American was on my country's kids TV :(

  • @SirNorwayDaniel Uh what do yoy mean by that?

  • @SirNorwayDaniel lol why?

  • @slowmomoshow White people destroy the groove :)

  • Oh...my...God. This must explain why I'm a funky dork now.

  • What's wrong with Bert's eyes?

  • I love the intro to this song, if I could find it I'd remix it into a DnB or dubstep style

  • What's the name of the song?

  • @teom78 I doubt there's a name for it.

  • Bert is my favorite character in this scene. Makes me laugh!

  • Hey There Whatserface Sitting In the Same Place Staring at the TV looking kinda weevey with the gold in you mouth hat turned sideways walking downtown call yourself a cool-cat looking like a fool with your pants on the ground!

  • @ConnDevi88 Hey, you! You're awesome! ;)

  • There's an article about this guy called "The Secret Proto-Gordon THAT TIME FORGOT!" at a site called Tough Pigs.

No one knows who this guy is. No one! Not even Sesame Workshop! If you see the new "Sesame Street: A Celebation of 40 Years of Life on the Street" book, he's mentioned on page 72. Yo, Mystery Gordon! If you're out there, email the people at Sesame Workshop, Tough Pigs or Muppet Central!

  • @RooseveltFranklinFan Did it ever occur to them to ask Bob McGrath or Loretta Long who have been there from the beginning?

  • @MIKECNW Yeah, they did, actually. There's a discussion about it at the Tough Pigs website. Someone on their Forum was in contact with the current Gordon (Roscoe Orman) who asked around, including Bob and Loretta. No one remembers the guy's name. That's why the 40th Anniversary book asks the general public to help identify the mystery Gordon.

The only person left to ask who would've been around at that time is Frank Oz (Bert). I doubt he'd remember, though.

  • @RooseveltFranklinFan Don't be silly. That's Matt Robinson. As another poster said, Holly Robinson Peete's father. He was Gordon for two years.

  • @katerbug72 That's definitely not Matt Robinson. True, Matt was Gordon for the first two years, but this clip is from a test pilot only some kids got to see. It has no episode #. Check out my other posts where you can look up the mystery Gordon. The Tough Pigs site would be the quickest way, but if you can get the Sesame Street 40th Anniversary book, he's on page 72...with a note from the author asking the public to identify him. Also there's "Sesame Street Test Show 1" on the Muppet Wiki.

  • @RooseveltFranklinFan My mistake! Reading the Tough Pigs thing now. Thanks for the enlightenment! I had no idea there was a Mystery Gordon!

  • @katerbug72 No problem :) It's really weird. They've dug and dug through the archives, asked everyone they knew (except maybe Frank Oz), and they can't find a single thing to identify him. No old pay stubs, no call sheets from that pilot, nothin'! The credits for the pilot don't list him either, which is also odd. If you rent or buy a copy of the DVD "Sesame Street Old School vol. 1", this pilot's on there.

  • @RooseveltFranklinFan I own both sets, I'll have to check it out! That is so weird. Maybe he passed away, you'd think he would come forward about it.

  • @katerbug72 Well, he is ugly... Maybe thats why they immediatly replaced him. Of the handful of actors to play Gordon, this guy is the ugliest

  • "What's your face" I think would probably make the kids feel bad about themselves.

  • @wattamack4 Yeah..way to make kids have a bad self image ,early SS!

  • Yeah...gimme that old school Sesame Street!

  • Nice!

  • he is so cool

  • he is so cool

  • wow! what year is this!?

is that original Hooper? for Hooper store? (the bald guy I mean)

  • I was from a test show that was aired in the summer od 69 just before it officially debuted.

  • @shakushki Of course it's the original Hooper.

  • I like the little blonde at the beginning...go girl go!

  • THIS MUSIC IS FUNKY!!!

    YES!!

  • By the way, why was this not included in that DVD? Was there a complete episode of the pilot? Did it ever air on TV?

  • Okay, I never saw the pilot of Sesame Street. I have the DVD of Sesame Street 1969-1974 which includes the first actual episode, which is why I did not recoginize Gordon. The reason why I thought it was a different Susan is that in this clip she looks different to me than in the first episode. Thanks for setting me straight!

  • @NYBredBamaFed This test show was released on the Old School: Volume 2 (1975-1979) box set. So far it seems that NOBODY has any clue as to who this actor is.

  • @balana84 Holy Robinson Pete ( Celeb Apprentence)said her dad was the original Gordon of sesame street

  • waaait.. so that was Gordon from our time? WOW!

  • oh wait. the actors changed xD

  • Is this from, Waaay back in the day, coz i grew up watching sesame street n not once have i seen this, and ernie looks. . .different.

  • Mr. Hooper and Bert are the BEST dancers.

  • Bert look's scary too.

  • Ernies eyes are creepy.

  • SUPER DUPER

  • OMG that doesn't look like Gordon! Was that from one of the test shows??

  • that was the original gordon but he died

  • That wasn't the original Gordon. I have seen the debut episode of Sesame Street and it's clearly a different actor. That's also not the original Susan.

  • @NYBredBamaFed this was the original pilot of the show. where that guy played gordon for just the one show, ernie and bert were the only puppets and no tire swing!

  • You're right that it's not the original Gordon, but that still is Loretta Long, Will Lee and Bob McGrath playing Susan, Mr. Hooper and Bob respectively. After the test shows were complete to see what worked and what didn't, and when it was clear that this actor who was playing Gordon didn't click with the audiences, Matt Robinson, who was already a producer and writer at the time, took the role when the "real" episodes were taped. Good thing, too!

  • @NYBredBamaFed Actually it is the original Susan as broadcast, and it's the original Gordon as seen in the test pilots. The name of the actor who played Gordon in the pilots is unknown, even to the people at Sesame Workshop (I wonder if they checked all of the test pilots, assuming they still have copies of them all, to see if any have credits).

  • You're wrong.

    That is the original Susan.

There's also an online interview with Bob and he's even says Loretta Long was always Susan.

  • Yep. According to "Street Gang," Test Gordon was fired because he unnerved the toddler test audience. The name of the actor who played him has since been lost to history.

  • Comment removed

  • yeah thats not the original gordon your right but i think thats the same susan

  • Is it me or does everyone dancing look really uncomfortable.

    Crinegeworthy stuff.
