Let me tell you something, folks. I used to use VLC all the time and thought it was awesome - but it always was fairly laggy... and I always assumed it was becuase my laptop is fairly old... (P3, 1gb of ram...). Just recently, I tried CCCP (with MPC) and... IT'S AMAZING! It plays all types of video files perfectly (even 480p) and there's no chopping. So.. even if you're one of those people who say "Oh, VLC is good enough for me..." PLEASE just try CCCP, you will see a difference.
VLC 1.2 is supposed to have better subtitle rendering. For the other problems have you asked them about it or looked in their code and submitted a patch?
I like how this had to be layered in pointless elitism and unproven statements. I used MPC before VLC and had more problems with MPC acting up, freezing, desyncing and generally being terrible then I've ever had with vlc. In fact, most of the complaints here are pretty petty.
I agree on what Yuki said here, I only used VLC when I want watch my incomplete downloads but for viewing anime and movies with subtitles, VLC sucks bigtime XDD
I personally use both but I rather use VLC when I can because it uses less resource. This is important because I use a laptop most of the time and I'm usually traveling. This video was quite tasteless and boring. Why use an anime back drop? Are you trying to prove a point but calling over people idiots. Don't get wrong, I don't think MPC is shit but I see no reason to immediately switch when VLC works well. All I got from this video was that someone wants fancy subtitles.
>no instant play/pause Spacebar. You know, the fucking giant key that you hit like once or more every second while typing? Yeah that. >downscaling What the fuck? Do you like to ignore a show you're watching and surf the internet, or do you just have really shitty monitor? I don't fucking use VLC and none of your shit "arguments" even convinced to not just start using it right now, because this was that fucking stupid. And I use Linux and so no MPC-HC. @nightmareofsolomon Sturgeon's Law.

@d4vidD3llaR0cc0 I'm pretty sure I can do more with my computer than you can do with yours. ;)
I run a webserver with mysql and php5, I can program(python, also know a little webdesign), and I have one fine usb hub. Just because I like VLC doesn't mean i know nothing about computers, VLC works for me. I'm pretty sure it is better than an average music/video player, there are worse per example DRM bombs like windows media player. :)
@d4vidD3llaR0cc0 Whut? Nothing is wrong with reading wikipedia it's a great place, and i didn't use anything for reference while writing the last comment - maybe you did it to know what i was talking about...
No mention of VLC's complete lack of support for ordered .mkv chapters, like the separate OP/ED files in many modern releases?
At least on one old version of VLC, very long subtitle lines in .ass could create a buffer overrun -- this would not only crash VLC, but it would also create a SECURITY RISK to people's entire systems.
VLC sucks ass. It used to be awesome back in 2007 but they ruined it. Full screen video is shit quality on half of the machines I use, and half the videos you try playing over a network take forever, "Building Font Cache". VLC sucks, linuxfags admit it
saying that people using vlc are retarded is equally retarded. I have both players and I find that I use vlc more often then MPC. subtitles are just fine in both players. very rarely have I experienced video rendering issues with vlc. the only real difference between vlc and MPC is that vlc use internal codecs and MPC uses external ones. true vlc uses some outdated codecs, but that also means it's stable. MPC crashes just as much as vlc so I don't understand this whole debate of media players.
Hahaha I agreed with everything explained in this video, per the last VLC release. It had been ages since the VideoLAN Team did anything about all these bugs. However - as of last month, they fixed all these issues. You will find than end users who now use VLC Player 1.1.5 are not retards. And that the retards are the ones still using the old, outdated versions of VLC (1.1.4 and older). So for VLC 1.1.5, this video does not apply.
Until they make MPC compatible with Linux, I'm "stuck" using VLC. Or rather, I am "forced" to use a very good piece of software that may have a few issues (not being able to skip is annoying) but otherwise will play my illegal anime more than adequately.
Come on guys, the only reason you'd want MPC is if you are watching HD fansubs, in which case you should change your name to F*cktard Leech-kun and go die in a hole somewhere for hurting the industry.
Now, I use MPC-HC with madvr and ffdshow for subs. I highly recommend madvr anyone wants the best video quality possible. Just try upscaling with madvr and compare to say, ffdshow. You'll notice the difference immediately. =)
KMPlayer sucks ass! You can tweak the settings to death, export them, reset the settings, import your presets, and nothing's changed. I don't know why they bother with exporting settings if the fucking feature doesn't even work.
@Noctai1989 True Fanboys are irritating but your right now not far from it and tbh VLC sucks on so many levels just because they try to make it usable for retards that dont get how to install a codecs-pack.
Personally I like Media Player Classic because of its way to combined easy and advanced functions, though its not all good. You do need to have atleast a few codec packs to make sure it works properly, its 64x ver. isnt very good but I use KMPlayer for everything MPC cant handle.
Funny in that I have several of the mentioned problems with Mplayer front-ends occasionally (e.g. timing, subtitles), but never had them in VLC. ASS/SSA subtitles require a command line switch or editing preferences to be rendered properly in some frontends and the mainline player. MPlayer still runs smoothly most of the time.
And don't tell me about MPC-HC. Crappiest UI for a movie player I ever dealt with. And I wonder which idiot defined the shortcuts. But YMMV.
Granted. Seeking in VLC is horrible. Subtitles, though, I don't feel to be much of a problem most of the time. It seems to render styled SSA just fine.
Even if I wanted to use another player, there aren't really any other native options for Mac that I've seen. CCCP+MPC is Windows only. MPlayer's extended GUI simply crashes and the official GUI hasn't been updated in long time.
I don't understand German and I can still tell the sub has nothing to do with the dub. If you speak English ( or any European language) and pay a little attention you will understand some of what they say.
You DO Know That VLC IS First and Foremost a streaming server at its core right, subs are an after thought and 3rd party windows dev's don't seem interested in writing patchs to cure these VLC problems , so get off Your arse and ACTUALLY write these Patchs if it bothers you that much.
BTW in 2009 vlc could already transcode and play AVC/AAC/Mkv containers Perfectly fine....
If you guys got the time to rant on a freeware that is simple and versatile why don't you guys make a better media player. For me I never have trouble with subtitles on VLC, if subtitles are too slow or fast speed up/down with the "g" and "h" key. HD videos in 1080p play/seek just fine for me, if you experience lag, you can always change the setting(change the video output to DirectX 3d video output to lessen the load on your CPU, if that doesn't work get a better computer).
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I just had to see what MPC-HC was so I googled it. I came out laughing since it looks so ancient like something from Windows 95. Anyway...I've used VLC for years now (both on Mac and Windows) and never had any problem with it. So I don't understand the complaints from some people. And playing mp3 with VLC? Hahahaha...seriously?
MPC-HC is the best video player. It can use cuda which for the ignorant means it can offload video decoding onto the GPU so even an old computer can play full 1080P. The only people who should use VLC, are ones who cannot read simple guides on the internet and don't have Nvidia GPU's. Or are just plain retards.
Yeah, even if the computer can't handle a 1080p video at Full HD res., it can be adapted to boost the performance by disabling the transparency effect at windows. I've been using it since 5 years now, and it hasn't let me down at any time.
vlc is the only media player i care to use that allows me to switch languages with audio tracks or speed up/slow down playback, so despite its cocksuckery i'm stuck with it
VLC's newer versions just pissed me off because everytime I opened up an mp3, it would start playing but the audio wouldn't come in 'till like 30 seconds into the song and I have to restart the song all over again.
I've been using VLC for over a year now and never once have I had a problem with it. Seriously, I never understand how so many people have problems using VLC when I have had zero.
Same here, not one problem ever with anything except network streaming, which turned out to be user error. No seeking issues, no subtitle issues, nothing. VLC works like a charm, and is more robust for cross-network use then MPC
@bobthydead Same here, man. I've never had one problem using it. Admittedly, I don't get into media players that much, but I find that VLC works for whatever I want it to do and it does it well. No issues for me.
It's incredibly distracting if you understand German *mutes sound*
Also I really don't see the big deal. Fine, perhaps one MIGHT BE mathematically slightly "better", but who the **** cares? Stop being such jerks, pick the one you like and don't start fight over it. --- actually, I don't care. Fight all you want. I'm happy with what I use.
VLC uses it's own codecs instead of having you download the actual ones, they ones that VLC uses are severely sub-par to the actual ones, you gain ease of use but sacrifice quality.
These are some really good points, and I noticed the issues when I use VLC.
I don't just use VLC, I use a large array of media players. These arguments of subtitles don't really come up if you watch something that doesn't have them, or is hardsubbed.
MPC-HC is definitely superior though. She's got a point.
I wouldn't go so far as to say VLC is worthless though, I am of the opinion that any program and operating system has its due uses for the user's desired style of work. It's all choice.
