As for the concept of socialised medicine, I think this shold be decided by states and not by government. Because this is really a local American matter and only they should decide it.

Health care costs have increased 10X since 1960 (40X if one doesn't adjust for inflation). This is because health care has been increasingly subsidized by government in the last 4 decades. Every other industry has seen its costs get lower and lower, and it's quality skyrocket, because the government hasn't been subsidizing and managing it.
While all products and services get cheaper each year thanks to the advancment of technology, health care costs rise at twice the rate of inflation each year. This is similar to education, another industry where government is heavily involved.
The only job of government is to protect liberty, not to collect, ration and redistribute resources.

Public safety should be in the hands of the government, because it relies on coercion, and coercion should be socialized to ensure the impartiality of justice. EVerything else, including schooling and healthcare, should be in the hands of individuals, as that drives costs down. If you socialize it, that means doctors can charge as much as they want since consumers (the average person), doesn't care what the doctor charges.

I'm not exaggerating the costs, I'm using hyperbole to convey my point that the costs are not fair. Yes you're right that there are other benefits that come from having a healthy population, but I don't believe those benefits are nearly enough to justify the coercion (taxes) and government management needed to distribute health services to the population for free. I think in the long run health care costs will decline and quality will improve more quickly with free market health care.

The muslim world has never had their own Enlightenment period, ie-seperation of church/state like we did in the West. The example of Hitler is so multi-faceted and complex, that I think the comparison not useful. I appreciate the sentiment, but using Hitler's horrific example too often leaves us inured. Theories of evil geniuses, man's stupidity or savage nature, etc take the focus off what we need to pay attention to now-- car bombs, media, profiteering, oil, drugs, diamonds, arms, and nuclear shake downs, mismanaged economies... all the con games.

Secondly, Allies did not win the world war in Europe by bombing cities, they won it by tactics. Administrations like JFK and Margaret Tatcher's have gone as far as to apologise for unnecessary extensive bombings like that on Dresden, Tokyo and Hiroshima. As for the concept of socialised medicine, I think this shold be decided by states and not by government. Because this is really a local American matter and only they should decide it.

Regarding Guliani and the other politicians, it does not matter who they are or are advised by, it matters who they are being backed by. He is supported by the very companies that GWB is. It is for that reason alone he is surging far ahead in the Rep. polls. However his base is rocking right now with the ultra right wanting to pull the plug out of him, I doubt he may even get the ticket....

Entertaining, nice big finish... like a "talk soup" for the middle east; really takes the focus off Iran's and almost forget their Republican Guard, and the internal politics of there. Takes the focus off the fact that these governments make energy policy for the world, even if futures markets set prices. But it's nice to see the name calling, simple version to remind us how little Americas need to know.

Fortunately Rudy the charlatan won't get elected but regarding Iran's Republican Guards (paasdaar), I was there when the organization was created. You know who the paasdaar's were? 18 to 25 year old boys, religious and sympathetic to the Islamic regime. 90% were extremely moral and dedicated, 10% were overly fanatic and bullying. 29 yrs later they're 47 to 55 and have positions in gov. New Guards are the same, not monsters but devoted, somewhat fanatic soldiers but still morally high.

Well, Holy Shiite! You seem bright. I agree, they are "devoted". Yet, there's proof that some send Saudi kids to die in truck bombs by remote(unknowingly). The Guard are surely the most "talented" operators in the Gulf. The US embassy in Beirut showed this on April 18, 1983 (63 died) and, and later the US barracks (241 marines), the largest nonnuclear explosion since World War II. Is it true that cab drivers won't stop for clerics in Iran today?

The Beirut bombings was probably done by Syrians or Palestinian refugees. Guards usually have 1 goal "To help and save Palestinians". Other acts are usually commited by one of many other groups in that area. The last bombing mess by Israel is being repaired by Guards for people, free. Mollahs have been hated by 90% of Iranians since 1980 but they've stayed in power by force.

Regarding suicide bombings and anti-american military actions, both are very "None-Iranian-like". Iranians, even Guards don't use "desperate" tactics, Arabs do, Guards are against western military presense in the Middle-east (as 90% of the world) but they're not fundamentally against America as a whole.

It's an often confusing and difficult political scene. Everything is not always as it seems. These conditions keep millions destitute, or swapping guns, drugs, oil, and con games rather than building, maintaining, trading and actually "pursuing life, liberty and happiness", as they say. This clown's video "reporting" doesn't help matters where he replaces insult for understanding about the places, players and problems in the Middle east or America.

Democrats don't believe in 'social programs' anymore. Republicans build up the deficit, increase government, while Democrats follow the script and destroy social programs (Clinton is perfect example of the new right-wing Democrat). Democrats are for transferring money in programs that help people into corporate subsidies. If there was a "big government" Democrat I might vote for him/her but they're a very rare breed.

The whole reason the mid class is worrying about their healthcare is simple: they've been paying for EVERYONE else's healthcare that they receive, which in turn pushes up the Middle Class's price b/c noone else is paying (and someone ALWAYS pays for it). so the dems have fooled the mid class into thinking THEY need the free healthcare too, which will also cost $...who will pay for that?

Socialized medicine is a system in which doctors/hospitals work for & draw salaries from government. Can you name one Democrat who supports that (besides continuing it within the Veterans Administration & Armed Services)? The ONLY Dem candidate supporting single-payer is Kucinich, who calls for socialized financing not socialized medicine (the former they have in Australia & Canada, not to be confused with the socialized medicine system in UK, Spain, US military) Other Dem health care proposals

And every developed nation on the planet is facing economic collapse as the baby boomer generation reaches retirement age. Health care costs have increased 10X since 1960 (40X if one doesn't adjust for inflation). This is because health care has been increasingly subsidized by government in the last 4 decades. Every other industry has seen its costs get lower and lower, and it's quality skyrocket, because the government hasn't been subsidizing and managing it.

While all products and services get cheaper each year thanks to the advancment of technology, health care costs rise at twice the rate of inflation each year. This is similar to education, another industry where government is heavily involved.
The only job of government is to protect liberty, not to collect, ration and redistribute resources.

So Schooling, Heathcare, public safety...should not be in the hands of the government (assuming it is functioning well)? Healthcare is SUBSIDIZED? It's pretty simple, we need to have access to free healthcare and EVERYONE should ship in. If we don't have free healthcare an open marketplace is not possible (Transaction cost is 2 high).

Public safety should be in the hands of the government, because it relies on coercion, and coercion should be socialized to ensure the impartiality of justice. EVerything else, including schooling and healthcare, should be in the hands of individuals, as that drives costs down. If you socialize it, that means doctors can charge as much as they want since consumers (the average person), doesn't care what the doctor charges.

I call it socialized because the costs are distributed equally but the benefits are distributed on a needs basis (so someone may pay 10X more than someone else even though they use the service half as much).

Dude, you're not only exagerating the costs but also making short sighted calculations (short term). You have to take into account the consequences of not having a healthy pop, the toll a epidemic can have on the country (epidemic can be avoided by having regular check ups which requires one, today, to have insurance)...I'm not a fan of Hayek and Co. as you can probably tell. But you could maybe check out "the great transformation" by Karl Polanyi.

I'm not exaggerating the costs, I'm using hyperbole to convey my point that the costs are not fair. Yes you're right that there are other benefits that come from having a healthy population, but I don't believe those benefits are nearly enough to justify the coercion (taxes) and government management needed to distribute health services to the population for free. I think in the long run health care costs will decline and quality will improve more quickly with free market health care.
