Even though Group B has been gone for almost 24 years now, its hardly gone, isnt it?

It was 3 short years of pure jumping, backfiring, intoxicating, power, noise and history.

I can't imagine what speeds we would be capable of achieveing now, with over 1000bhp available from an engine, advanced composites, and amazingly advanced differentials and AWD systems should Group B be brough back.

@mrjck cars won't sounds as majestic. not much else matters. Besides, 2/3 of the magic behind group B is how crude the cars were in spite of unworldly performance. Shit aerodynamics, fixed torque ratio center diff, no hand break, shit engine management, joke safety. Yet those cars, on gravel roads will walls made of people, came to life with fury of a mythical beasts tamed (barely) by their drivers.

A modern group B will be a technofest with cars that just about drive themselves.

I was also alive when the group B flying machines were about.... the ony reason that todays rally drivers aren't allowed to drive machines of that power and speed is because they were banned! After a few ( very unfortunate ) but fatal crashes in groub B rallying was banned - on no part due to the spectators- but MAINLY DUE TO THE FANTASTASTACALLY, STUPIDLY, INSANELY, powerfull cars.. The specs for say the Delta S4 are just sensational.

1.8ltr 4 cyclinder turbo AND supercharged engine, producing 550bhp with 890kg.

According to Wikipedia, they were doing 0-60 in 2.3 seconds on gravel.....Bugatti Veyron can't do that on tarmac... absolutely incredible.

Group C cars were sport prototypes for races like lemans and this group has ben cancelled in the nineties from FIA to get more space and money for the F1.. what a pitty.

Group B cars, and group C as well, were unlimited machines, whit limits of size or also of fuel consumpion (groupC) but those cars were the maximum expression of what a manufacturer could do, and F1 is not the same.. I love group B and C, that was car racing, nowadays is only a sort of revival whit this "ghost" of safety that makes me say: fuck everyone.
