Bueno, esta sola interpretación hubiera fundado la fama de un cantante. Pero viniendo del inmortal Kraus, simplemente nos refleja el altísimo estándar del Maestro.
He was the best ligth-liric tenor , he really sung that roles that his voice was able to sing and in this fragment is a clear exemple of belcanto and a very good technich , I think he is as good as Fritz Wunderlich , and Nicolai Gedda.
Really??? I had no idea Alfredo Kraus had an older brother... and a baritone! I believe Alfredo Kraus wanted to be a dramatic tenor or even a baritone.
El piano es excelso. Genera el clima perfecto para inspirar a una gran voz. Me encanta la versión de Kraus, una gran referencia para los Tenores, que consiste en que deben cantar en registro muy alto siempre, para mantener la línea de canto elevado.

.......thin dry voice, nice musicality, but stunted projection......they all cannot be Gigli or Bjoerling.....hits the notes, but none of the poured golden honey that Caruso etc gave us.....
The quality of the voice is an accident of birth: you cannot control it. Kraus always had this kind of voice as his natural. What is remarkable and legendary about him is his technique and what he did with a voice that was not naturally beautiful. He is perfectly worthy of being in the same pantheon as those you've mentioned-- and very few would ever disagree with that.
@Merryjest Though essentially I agree with most of what you say, I believe it is an oversimplification: with proper technique one stresses less the organ and the primary sound is purer, hence more beautiful; with better understanding of the sonorities of one's body a much richer in harmonics voice can be developed. So, as we gain experience, the purer primary sound is able to elicit richer harmonic content through judicious reinforcement, using our natural resonance chambers.
@maxlorenz24 It doesn't really change what I said, Max. There are voices that, regardless of how pure they may become, will be far from aesthetically beautiful or posses a distinctive beauty qua voce. Kraus' voice, produced purely, was still not as intrinsically beautiful as other tenors' voices, but his supreme musicianship was superior to most other tenors.
@Merryjest I agree on that. The timbre is characteristic of the "sound signature" of your physical body. What I say is that one can achieve a more beautiful sound by improving the technique. That is "belcanto"; most singer (and I am referring mainly to tenors here) shout and stress the organ, be it for copying this or that other singer, be it for misunderstanding about what is singing, and achieve just the opposite that they intend...the voice reslts mediocre and with "standard operatic" sound.
You are born with a specific kind of voice. Its potential harmonics, tone and qualities cannot be changed, merely improved through technique. But an unattractive voice will not be magically transformed. What separates Kraus from many tenors is that, despite having a less-than-gorgeous instrument, he performed great art, was one of the best musicians, and had a solid technique that few have ever matched.

Excelente versión, como todo lo que cantaba Kraus. Debería ser tomada como ejemplo en las escuelas de música.

What kind of accident please?
InfernoDaBaka 2 years ago
You are born with it and you cannot change it for a different kind of voice. The only thing you can change is your technique and your musicality.
Merryjest 2 years ago
Furthermore, you cannot change your voice for a more tonally beautiful one.
