  • Never has the fine line between genius and madness been more clearly illustrated than in the case of William Blake. It is characters like Blake that make me proud to be English.

  • Nice animation. I have been a W Blake lover... and i truly appreciate that you took some time making a video like this in his honor... Blessing to you... Keep on sharing... :)

  • its simple eventually you will be naked , so might as well get naked now!If you have a big brow or tattos then you arev the bad guys, if you resemble a toon that has feathers then you are safe. lol great music by the way

  • Northrop Frye, famously said:" Read Blake, or go to Hell. That's my message to the modern world." Blake wrote in the late 18th century, Frye in the middle of the last; and still the message/wisdom is not heard. The fires of the Inferno are at the edge of our little global village, and everyone is glued to the screen.

  • Oh this just NEEDS more views! Fabulous bit of work!

  • Realmente profundo y conmovedor el trabajo de Blake.

  • Beautiful! Thank you for sharing it with the rest of the world!

  • beautiful

  • i dont understand what happened. can someone please explain to me.by the way i like ur vids sheila graber :)

  • @ra23wr Blake was a bit of a crazy guy a true artist. In the movie I have used his images and ideas to show how the "poet figure" - or crazy guy wins out over the logical , solid man of reason. Blake would like your crazy webcam self-portrait video-really animated!- Hope this helps explain what's going on here.

  • @sheilagraber sort of.how do u make the vids?

  • @ra23wr I have just posted "making a film" to hopefully answer your question. I now use computers - but most of the stuff you see (including Blake) on my channel was created exactly as described in this movie.

  • Fantastique!

  • Beautifully done!

  • This is simply mind blowing, the perfect visual companion to so many traditions, such as the gnostic gospels. I am wondering what texts he had access to in his times and through which channel....

  • 5 stars sublime , magestic

  • what is the song

  • It's a bit of Carmina Burana by Carl Orff..when I used it in

1977 it was not heard of - now it is played all over the place when folks want to appear important e.g. the X Factor ..would be good behind an Xbox game too!

  • thanks man

  • A Gem and without a doubt

    Undeniably Wonderful!

Great, great use of Blakes imagery - with such continuity in execution and meaning!!

    Faved!

Where can I get a copy!

  • Did you really do this???

It is a perfect journey into the proces of Blake's Gnosis.

    It's amazing.... I'm speechless.

  • Yes, I was asked to make a film on Blake for an exhibition the Tate Gallery.I some stuff written about him - but mainly his own words in relation to his own images. At a party I heard a clip from "Carmina Burana" - it was UNHEARD of at that time (now it is everywhere) and I thought "That's Blake" - inspired by the music I put his images (and ideas) to it.That is the strength of animation..your own very well edited pieces show you clearly understand the power of sound & image working together.

  • Thank you. Well I'm very bad at editing, just did those as an hobby.

But what strikes me is the choiche of the music.

It may seem obvious for most people, but behind it lays an almost "alchemical" intuition.

Carmina Burana is set around Orphic and Dyonisiac rituals hence they have a lot in common with Blake.

The fact that you associated instinctively the music with the images, makes me think.

It almost seems to gave importance to Blake's vision, as opposed to Newton's deppressing mechanicism.

  • You are so right about Blake being the opposite to Newton..- love your chosen name "manoutofthecave" does it relate in anyway to Plato and his imagery of a man being "in a cave" and viewing the world through shadows from the fire on the wall? You certainly seem switched on to the world.

  • INCREDIBLE! The first person that notices the origin of my name. I see you are very aware of philosophycal and artistic matters.

It's great to speak to someone like you.

By the way I study philosophy, first year at university, so yes I like philosophy a lot and I think it's a vital subject, because it is an alternative to strict dogmatic religious views, as well as scientific, mechanicist mentality ,though there has been many dogmatic and mechanicist philosophers. Most of all it's free thinking.

  • I THINK YOU WILL MAKE A VERY GOOD philosophy student - and finally a great philosopher. For my next animated film (I now make very few - too busy helping others make theirs!) I want to tackle the whole business of ideas - linked to dance and cultures round the world...so good luck in your own researches - who knows we may meet up outside a cave sometime!

  • In Genius!.

    Peace*

  • VERY NICE VIDEO!!!

  • Sérieux.....à couper le souffle!

  • Thanks for kind comment - as for the music -When I made the film in 1978 very few people had ever heard of Carmina Burana..now it's everywhere..must be Blake's influence!!

  • great work, but the music is obvsious

  • WOW!

  • Hello! I LOVE this video! I am an aspiring artist *who loves and has loved animating my works* I have watched many of your lovely videos and think they are brilliant! I love seeing your methods change with time as technology increases, that's very interesting. Of course I'm sure you'll agree with me that there is something about "traditional" methods that can't be beat.

    Love and Blessings!

    )O(

  • Hi Dalton, I reckon Blake would really enjoy your magic site - you 2 have a lot in common. Thanks for your astute comments on the evolution of my work. You're right there are some things that only "Real Paint can do..but also others that computers can "help"you do.

Best of luck on your own continuing journey.

  • How come I have only just found you? This one is amazing. Love it, love Blake! Perhaps the attached video response will amuse you?

  • LOVED your wording/thinking! If Blake was alive today 9and he's probably is somewhere!) he would love it too and he would certainly use YouTube instead of etching! We all sang along to the tune - great stuff!
