this is a cool product but for the moment it is too pricey and the version with thunderbolt is going to be even more expensive, like a 1000 bucks. At this price the best option is to simply get a new laptop.

Yes, you have to use xternal monitor. if you are using a video card. The expressBox is not just for video card it can be used with audio, framegrabber, Ethernet, USB, Firewire, RAID or any PCIE cards.
