In the last scene, Rae is still struggling with her urges, and Ronny is still suffering from his anxiety. Because they have come together to support each other, the ending is hopeful - not perfect like the traditional Hollywood ending where everything is completely resolved. It's bittersweet, and for that reason more indie than Hollywood in my opinion.
