There's a wide variety of > world 8 levels that can be accessed by editing the trio of game genie codes used to start at level 1-8. (just follow the pattern of which letters of said codes change between them) The majority of these levels are garbage that crashes the game or traps the player...but some are playable garbage that lasts a number of levels. I wish I kept track of the playable ones...but this was over 20 years ago!

The levels aren't called minus levels.

Normal levels are called something like 3-1

So, these levels are just on world 0, or world blank, because the world counter is blank.

but I think the minus levels may have been used for test levels during the development of the game.

Also, the Minus World is actually World 36, the game displays a space (its graphic for the never-used number "36") for the World number, leading to -1

@coolbionicle actually the minus world is just 7-2, or really, 36-1, but 36 is data from something else and is blank (Too complicated to explain in 500 char), but the game isn't supposed to retrieve the data that takes you there, and then even use it as the location where the pipe warps you to. If he walked over a little more in the vid, he would've seen the "Welcome to Warp Zone" message, which is what creates the proper warp pipe destinations in the first place. Minuslvls really=glichedlvls.

@coolbionicle Also only reason why you cant escape is because the game "checks" to see if where it thinks you should be and the level where you really are are the same, and if they're not, then some data gets "killed." In addition, if the pipe was up and down, then it would let you escape, but since its sideways, and a crucial bit of data doesn't work on sideways pipes, and the data mentioned earlier was "killed," the game sends you back to the beginning.

i think the minus worlds are beta or prototype worlds according to the way they are made with stuff like enemies out of place. on the third minus level there was a glutched up enemy. that could have possibly been a beta or unfinished enemy.

According to one of my friends, there's supposedly, a way you can get to world -2 without having to edit it. you need to get Mario to jump out of the water and over the top where the pipe is and it'll lead you to the flagpole or whatever it is. i can't figure it out, if you glitch it to go through the wall, you don't go anywhere, you get stuck behind the tunnel til time runs out. but if anyone can figure it out, please let me know and show me a video.

That friend is probably lying. I saw my sister of all people managed to get up on land over the pipe, and there was no way to continue from there.

@piip4 I managed to do the same, getting atop the pipe and go through the wall, but sadly you're right, you can't continue any further than being stuck in the wall. What he was telling me though, is that there's a way you can jump out of the water and onto the top of the wall, and that would let you continue to the flagpole. I don't even think its possible to jump OUT of the water in the game though.

All i could do was gt him to duck at just the right time and fall on top of the pipe, as big Mario, so when i let go of the down button, he went through the wall and got stuck.

@SuperLuigiBros11 A funny thing is that despite being a tough enemy these guys are afraid of touching the ground. If you crouch on the ground underwater the bloopers won't be able to get you. They'll just keep bobbing up and down above your head so all you have to do is wait for them to go a bit higher and then run away!

@WM3DAS Actually, you know how when you go through the normal warp zone and it shows the numbers "4", "3", and "2" over the pipes? For whatever reason, if you don't go far enough into the next screen, it reads the tiles as if they were from the end of 4-2, which are blank, "5", and blank, respectively. The blank tile is indeed the 36th tile in the CHR table, causing the pipes to warp Mario to world "blank" (36)-1. It's not that the game can't show it, it's that the 36th tile is the empty one.

It's not really "minus" world.. It's just a world with an empty character, like a Space. The - is just still there seperating the world number from the level number.
