This new road is no luxury, it's essential to all of us who live here and need to get to work even when there is a delivery van off loading in Broadwey, it's about time. As for the video, well that's just more of our money wasted by CC. Could have done better.
I hate living next to this. looks damn ugly. and I see no reason for it. all I hear is that its nothing more than a fancy piece of eye candy for the olympics.
its nice to wake up to the trees rustling in the wind, and the fields in the background. well what's left of it. not much nature left. just an ever growing population.
and the urge to get out before it turns to a major town.
I don't live in Weymouth, but stayed there this weekend. I saw some of the work they've done so far. All I can say is it looks horrible. Either way, there's still probably going to be severe traffic jams. Especially around 2012 for the Olympics.
It isn't going to make a bit of difference. And last month I saw more of the path of it down by Littlemoor. Many people's houses are in it's path. It's disgusting how some people are going to lose their homes for this monstrosity.
"There are no houses being demolished as part of the relief road, nor are we compulsory purchasing any properties.
A lot of work is going into landscaping the road. Grass seed has already been sown on the cuttings and wildflower seeding will take place later this month. There are also three green bridges which are landscaped to blend into the surrounding area and ensures wildlife can cross the road."
This road should have been a dual carriageway which could have eventually linked up with the Dorchester bypass which also should become a dual carriageway! Where was the thinking for the future and are the bridges and tunnels wide enough to take a larger road in the future (I believe not). All in all a very unimpressive road, Weymouth council should look at other towns to see how it can be achieved with forward thinking.
Its hardly a "relief" road, going to close off the other road haha it does make me laugh! Oh and notice just a single carriageway going into Weymouth and mostly dual carriageway on the way out! Always huges queues going out of Weymouth, erm ... not!
This road is a waste of time and money if they do not keep the existing road open.
"This rumour has been going around for a while but we can assure you that Dorchester Road is not closing.
"You can have a look at the junction on our relief road blog (see info for link).
The only part of Dorchester Road that is being removed is from the hairpin bend to the top of Ridgeway Hill this section is being downgraded to a bridleway and cycleway."
@dorsetforyou WRR says"'The only part of Dorchester Road that is being removed is from the hairpin bend to the top of Ridgeway Hill this section is being downgraded to a bridleway and cycleway."
I am puzzled indeed. They say that part of Dorchester Road being downgraded but one can assume that it will not be possible to drive to Dorchester via the old route thereby using the new relief road also my last question is why was it never constructed as a dual carriageway ??
traffic is at a standstill in town already. this road is just going to push the congestion from one place to another i think. i.e manor rondabout & beyond.i wonder also what will happen at dorchester football ground roundabout. the volume of traffic travelling towards it will increase. even now it can be quite busy at times. soon we shall find out!!
The only draw back is that it will only improve traffic coming from Dorchester to Weymouth, but in Weymouth along the seafront, traffic will be at a stand still, in the coming summer holidays.
i cant wait till its all done but 2012 is going to be horrific

Heartbreaking to see what is happening in Dorset.. Sailing should never be an excuse for damaging the environment.

Won't this just move the congestion to the roundabout near Morrisons?

I think for this to work they would need a very successful park and ride scheme. Otherwise its just going to be a waste of time
