Freddie had throat polyps and on this particular occasion had no voice at all. everything was set for him to perform alive and he hated playback, but it was really impossible and he was devastated. when you know this, all Montserrat's expressions take on a new meaning.

@LordLuKha Freddie decided just few moments before that he won't sing live. He was very very nervous about performance (he wasn't sure in his voice) so he made decision to sing on playback. I don't think reason of cancellation was his illness because he wasn't that sick at all during '88 and plus - he gave up smoking. Actually, during same year Freddie had live performances with Cliff Richard in Dominion Theatre in London. He really wasn't that sick yet. ;)

@bijou201 Freddie was sick its just that he was able to hide it very well. He probably didn't sing live because he needed to save his voice in order to record the last two Queen albums "The Miracle" and "Innuendo". He was a very brave man. To know he was dying and he still carried on.

His last live performance was earlier in 1988. In this video he seems to have lost about 2 stone, judging from a photo from the earlier performance - He was actually quite chubby in early '88, but by the end of that year he was on borrowed time. It is amazing to consider that he lasted so long, and worse still - if he had lived another 6 months, he might still have been around today because of the advances in medicines in '92. What a sickener :(
