  • I could be wrong but it sounds like to me the part about the newer technology than the ID card is probably the new RFID chip implanted in you, anytime something goes wrong with these cards means it's an excuse to bring in something safer. They ain't chippin me!!!

  • They keep using the word 'lost', but obviously these disks were stolen by a low level operator , must probably paid to do so, we can only hope it was criminals for financial gain who purchased it and not terrorists rogue states who my use it for anyone's guess.

  • wow she's thick!

  • Out of curiosity has anyone asked the question "who was the data being sent to in the first place and for what reason?"

  • haha that dude is a dick!

  • brilliant!! the prof is boss! only one talking sense and cutting through the thick layer of bull. paxman is great at keeping the ebb and flow.

  • ...and frying bacon.

  • I really wish a Thick of It episode had been made about this, just to see Malcolm Tucker's horrified realisation at the cock up and subsequent terrible Newsnight interviews.

  • What a f***ing, patronising, condascending bitch that politician is. Saying the banks (who aren't much better) should 'hold discussions' regarding refunds given to customers when the government should I would not trust any Labour politician with a music CD let alone one with sensitive data on it.. Absolute PARASITES! Someone pass over the repellant, cheers!

  • Lol well the government owns the banks now anyway

  • Comment removed

  • That's not strictly true, if you figure that a proportion of the cabinet are Rothschild stooges, like Mandelson - it's still in the same hands ;-)

  • She's nothing compared to Hazel Blears

  • worst type of politician there, dodging direct questions, taking no responsibility

  • nice " uncle buck " reference sidensvans54, i almost choked on my glass o cola! haha

  • She should buy a rat to chew that lump off her face.

  • Trust labour ???

  • typical labour minion! wont take any responsibility for their own blunders. they will just put it all on the bank and probably the police. the politicians dont give a fuck because its not them that will be harmed by this, its everyone else.

  • I agree to a great extent with the comments left by others.

People don't need another party spokesperson with nodding-dog syndrome squirming on national television.

Taking a more holistic view of government blunders, anyone with an interest in current affairs has to come to the unedifying conclusion that continued cockups of this nature are symptomatic of something more seriously wrong with our system of governance.

  • It's quite amusing how some comments reflect a 'football team' parochial attitude of Labour versus Tory. If the Tories had been in power the same essential things would be happening. When are people going to awake from slumber and realize that these parties serve the same masters, and the electorate's interests are of secondary importance.

  • I love how the professor says security ID cards and chips and the whole deal a a political thing and not about security issue , That is big!! Nice how the government lady is on the back burner but she handled herself quite well

  • These bastards couldn't care less if our data goes missing. They just want power.

  • So... what happened to this story? Does anybody know the names of any of the people who were sacked, demoted or otherwise punished for their part in this (or the many other data loss fiascos)? Have the government started taking steps to dismantle these universal databases and restrict access to a more responsible level? Are the recommendations of experts such as those mentioned by Prof Anderson now being given higher priority than the wish lists of political control-freaks?

  • I think there should be a new policy for the government. If you break something or do damage to the country in anyway. Then politicians must pay for it and not allowed to go to people to bail them out through taxes. They use our money for expenses then the reverse should happen. New policy in place say aye "Aye" those against say nay "Why should we say nay?" The ayes have it. Policy 13A that government pays for damages is now in place. Session is now over.

  • I Can't answer won't answer..

    What a Cow,,,,,

Big Brother is watching us all but he's blind deaf and Stupid like this hopeless Slit on a stick..

She gets paid a fortune for this????????????????????????

  • dear people, don't worry. the Dear Leader will take care of every thing. and in any case your own moeny doesn't belong to you, it belongs to the Dear Leader; you see we all voted communist in 97, 01 and 05 so that is the system we have

  • if you think new labour are communist then your an ignorant tosser

  • piss off dickhole- why don't you wake up and look at the social engineering and mass uncontrolled immigration that your beloved Labour Party has been working on over the last 12 years, plus all the billions of tax and waste that YOU will have to pay for in high taxes for the next 40 years?

  • They are facist but not communist.

  • When will governments learn that putting a transparent, fat, smug cow on TV does not convince anyone of anything. Saying , 'oh lssons to learn' over and over like a mantra is not convincing anyone. COME CLEAN YOU FUCKERS WE ARE sICK OF THE LIES!! (sorry for the caps...she has really pissed me off)

  • lying bitch

  • Do the rules say that the data should of been encrypted?

    Classic! Paxman the best!

  • i smell bullshit

  • Don't believe a word she says.

  • If you want to be a politicion dont answer a question. lol

  • lessons to learn etc, what bollocks, get these sanctimonious twats out of power someone please, I'd rather have the conservatives than these snakes, and that's saying something! "NEW LABOUR" are a complete joke these days

  • I grew up with the conservatives, they're no better.

This problem happened because the government tried to save money in a really stupid way, by not paying the extra charges for encryption and by not even paying for a recorded delivery.

What might help is if government data is overseen by a neutral outside body which can punish any government that misuses it.

  • Just look at this lying stinking filthy slut rolling in her money and filth and lies..

Cant answer wont answer..What a sow!!!!

  • This woman is another Labour cronie, but you have to give a small degree of respect to anyone who allows themselves to be interviewed by Jeremy Paxman!

  • Does the government not realize that people are fallible and that they don't follow the correct procedure, they follow the EASIEST procedure!

  • i hate these labour drones. I hope they are happy ruining the country while they collect their inflated salaries.

  • "i.d. cards are a political matter" his words not mine.

  • the government is doing it.

  • Fantastic !!!!!
