@VideoMenu Do you have any specific info to back this up? They are amazing animals and unfortunately their habitat is getting wiped out by urban development. I used to live in Boulder Colorado and they were all over the place but every time a new development was built they had to move them. I'm interested in any information you have about this issue.

I have a PD also, her name is Truffles. They really are wonderful pets. Be careful with him jumping like that though. Mouth injuries can be very serious and even life threatening to them.

YOu are so lucky to have Scamp. I remember when I was 11 and went to British COLumbia and there were like hundred s of these prairie dogs with all sorts of people stopping for these animals that are the most friendliest animals I've ever come across. They'd grab my ear and I'd turn around and they'd run off into a hole Like playing jokes on me. But would come back and allow you to pet and play with them. I wish I lived near them.

@YouDontNeed2Knowxx - You can most definitely keep them in the UK. I have been to a guy's house who had a trio of them amongst other things. You can also get Richardson's ground squirrels and 13 lined ground squirrels too - very similar species. Have a look around on some of the pet advert websites. But just be aboslutely certain if you do decide to buy one that it was not wild caught and that it has been bred by a caring, knowledgeable owner. Happy prairie dog to you!

Back in the 80s there was a shop selling them along with albino and regular Skunks, dissented of course. I petted the little pup, thought they were neat, but not for me. The skunks being night animals were hard to see as they were sleeping.

At home back in the early 90s, I saw a mother Raccoon and 3 of her babies. I made kissing sounds and one of the babies crawled up my leg.

Not wanting to get my human smell on it, I used my sweatshirt to remove it and put it back in the bush.

I had one for about 6 years. he was the shit and really loyal to me. but he bit about 10 other people and i had warned em all that he is a wild animal that if he starts to chatter his teeth or start to bush out his tail to back off. so they were warned! but they are cool pets, just be careful. hey, you are a very lucky person to experience those as a kid... about 5 years ago a local petstore sold about everything from prarie dogs to even chinchillas for low prices... i begged my mom to death and my grandpa said he would get me one but my mom wouldnt let him.. it sucks that in our town all of the local petstores are all gone.. thats soo dumb... i wish i had the oppertunity you had to have a pet prairie dog... i hav a pretty cool hamster tho and it looks like a prarie dog lol
