The NXT have better possibilities for programming (a lot better) and the motors are much more precise. However the sensors are really big, the motors are oddly shaped which makes it more difficult to build something advanced with it. You can use the old sensors and motors with converter cables if you want though.
I think the NXT is geared too much to young people who wants to build something fast at the cost of the power users. On the other hand, the RCX is terrible to program...
@Spillerrec thank you so much for the response it was very helpfull!!! does the nxt come with tank treads? and does it have the parts like diffrental gear and slpper gear kind of stuff like the rcx?
The NXT 2.0 kit comes with rubber tank threads which are a bit similar to the ones in R.I.S. 2.0. However I would recommend getting the plastic ones from another set though.
However there aren't many gears in the NXT kit, especially in the 2.0 version and none of the special ones that you mentioned. You can use the parts from your RCX set though.
If you want to know more about the parts included, check peeron.com, it have parts inventories for almost any Lego set, both old and new.
I tried to make the program idiot proff, the first part is used for messuring time and it could be removed.
I cannot remember if I slowed the motors down, but I think so, it could probably be speeded up a little.
And the letters could be made quite a bit smaller, it would help a lot. I don't know how precise it is however, so I don't know how small it can be done.
But I am to lazy to make programs, I only made one for this because of the building instructions site...
i built a ship somin like that propeller was as big as my 2 hands and i actually i admit mine is nothing to what u built i love lego but i have to ask r u into lego techniks and lego starwars ??????
I want to correct myself in my previous comment. (I can't see it though of some reason.)
I could have made it faster, but it would have been harder to remain accurate. (It is not the best anyway.) And as you might not know, I'm too lazy for doing that. (That's why it took ½ year to update the building instructions...)
I haven't told it before, so I will do it now. The 1x4 grey plate on the pen holder that seems of no use is to mount a light sensor. So it will be able to work as a scanner too.
I was not able to make a program to it since I don't know how to do it. If I figure out how it is done in the future, I will update it and provide the program.
Hmm, maybe I should try to look at others and see if I could get some help from there. If there are some here that knows how to do it, I would appreciate if you could tell me, or if you want, make the program yourself and I will make it available together with the BI's
does the rcx come with a remote?

No, but you could buy one if you wanted it. It is pretty useful for testing.
You can also remotely control the RCX with applications like BricxCC from your computer.
(Such thing wasn't used in the video though)

How many steps did it take?
I made a robot turn in a shape of a rectangle and it was only 7 steps.
