@BuglersHoliday I agree. I'd love to see some sort of Aladdin themed hotel resort. Gimme an Aladdin-themed soda fountain and I'll be pleased! I'd also love to see some sort of hotel based around my favorite pixar film, Up. Perhaps rooms that are based on Carl's floating house, the airship, and a tropical forest with Kevin hiding in different nooks and crannies.
@ke00pqs, what? I am not sure what you're saying :/
All I said is that they are overusing cars lately. It's a great film, but there are a whole bunch of other things. It just seems like a narrow range of choices. Two pixar films and two underwater themes. It's just an opinion I'm not bashing them. I guarantee you'll be hard-pressed to find a bigger Disney fan than I. I adore the films, I just like a little more variety, and there are a ton of great newer films they could have used.
I'm curious... what does it take to get a job as a modeler at Disney? I've always had a huge fascination with modeling. I've even gone as far as to work for an architectural & prototype company. I've worked at the architectural model firm for 4 years and as a graphic designer for 7 years. I've also completed the Walt Disney World College Program.
I've seen many jobs on the website, but never model building position. What does Disney call this skill set?
@BuglersHoliday I may be wrong, and I get your point of view, but I think they were trying to get it for genders. Like Little Mermaid for Princess Loving Girls. Cars for the boys. Finding Nemo for the family, and Lion King for animal lovers.
Smart choice on Lion King! It is the best Disney Movie (or just move in my opinion) ever made. Really excited! I am diffident on what resort I want to stay at.
I just wish they would give Lion King a little more credit. It is a REALLY good movie! :D
@Shadowcat139 same here, I am waiting for that to open before i stay there, i love the lion king beside that my daughter that is all she been watching for over a week now
@freshPrincess626 Oh brother, I've heard the "if you don't like it then don't go" response a million times. Doesn't work. Just because I critique Disney doesn't mean I hate it.
Will this be a DVC property? I'm a member and would love to try this out. We really liked the All Star's food accommodations, especially when traveling in large groups with kids. Unfortunately you can't use DVC points at allstar. Our Home base is Animal Kingdom and it's great but the food selection is not that varied. We stayed at Wilderness Lodge last year. It was great but much the same with food selection. I wish all resorts had the allstar cafeteria.
To be fair to the "Cars" building (and no, I can't believe I'm doing this): This was the same mentality that gave us the "Mighty Ducks" building in All Star Movies.
Why the Cars hating, seriously? The movie is great and the resort looks awesome. Stop complaining for such a thing! Even if you don't like the movies picked, there are a lot of people that love them! Also, Toy Story is already a theme in All Star Movies, so it's a good thing they're not doing that again.
Was excited for this till I saw that they had Cars and Finding Nemo. They were good movies, but there are so many better classic ones that are far better.
@imagineerboi And THAT is a damn shame. I worry that the company started by Walt and his brother Roy will soon forget that it was the 2 Disney brothers started it all.
@stadalberts Yeah, all that Disney cares about these days is jamming the most marketable characters into anything without giving a damn about innovation, nostalgia, or cohesion.
Last September, my multi generational family (Mom, Dad, Me, My fiancee, My brother, His wife, Their toddler) smushed into the Cabins at Ft Wilderness. That was what Disney suggested as a good place for multi-generation families. It was less than magical: My fiancee and I were split up into bunk beds, baby was on the couch, bro and his wife had pull down by baby. These "Family Suites" seem even smaller than the cabins. How does that help multi-gen or 5+ family?
I think tht it is a winderful idea that disney is putting time into making affordable resorts for their guests. This is also going to be a great place for the kids! While some people are snobby and only stay in the luxury resorts, there are families that can only afford value resorts, so why not make them as fantastic as this!? Thank you disney, i cant wait.
I hope its more like pop century than All Stars Music. Ive stayed at music twice, pop century and Caribbean beach (which was a huge treat tbh!). I feel that pop century works better because the food court has more than one drink station and a larger seating area for meals. The All stars has one drink station for 1000s of guests and during breakfast and evening times is actually like a zoo. Im not saying i dont expect crowds/children i mean its disney but it was just utter chaos!
I think Toy Story should have been in there, since it was the first feature length animated film (thank you John Lasseter!). However, while it would have been nice to see a Walt era film, I think the ones they chose to represent two dimensional animation were fabulous choices, considering one began the animation renaissance and the other was dubbed one of the greatest of all time.
And one last thing... Why in Florida?! I'm an animation FREAK! Should have been near DL. :[
I'm noticing a lot of complaining that there isn't a representative of the Walt era films. The Little Mermaid was the beginning of the Disney Animation renaissance, and the Lion King is considered one of the best animated films of all time, and is still incredibly popular, as proven by it's recent theatrical success. Finding Nemo was also a very popular Pixar film, and Cars is reaching out to the families with little boys who have no interest in the Princesses that are over represented
@snowwhite923 Oh I know.. I was just thinking. Walt was all about progress. I'm sure he would appreciate that they're bringing the newer films into WDW. But it is odd they didn't include an older one. Maybe they were trying to appeal more to kids today or maybe they were better for theme. I don't know.
i wish people would stop complaining about this resort. i am beyond excited for it. not everyone can afford to stay at the grand floridian or animal kingdom lodge, many people who visit are families on a budget. i for one am thankful that walt disney world is realizing this and creating a new resort for people like that, including myself and my family. disney world is really all about the families, so everyone, get off your high horses and appreciate all the work that's going into this.
A message for The Walt Disney Company regarding its Value Resorts:
You can dress up your value resorts in whatever fancy decorations and oversized character statues you like, but that doesn't make them any more than what they really are: semi-conveniently placed motels. I've seen your company change the face of the resort business with the themed hotels we see around the Seven Seas Lagoon. The Grand Floridian, Contemporary, Polynesian, and Wilderness Lodge...
@JebbyStudio ...are all spectacular to say the least. There were many more wonderful resorts planned that never came to fruition for whatever reasons including the Asian, Venetian, Persian, and Mediterranean. How wonderful it would be to see you build another of these wonderful resorts, and maybe even blow the dust off of one of your older concepts. Instead, we, your guests, have watched years pass without a high quality resort ever seeing the light of day...
@JebbyStudio ...As if that's not bad enough, the high quality service of your resorts that you were known for has slowly declined in recent years in a laughable attempt to save money. It's as if profits have taken priority over the happiness of your guests. What happened to the magic you used to tell a story in everything you did? The beautiful details that made the atmosphere in your resorts?
@JebbyStudio ...The complimentary guest amenities that came with even the standard rooms? Why is it that all we have now are boxy motels dressed in tacky decorations and hotels from years passed that continue to fall apart and wear away? The magic that once blessed Walt Disney World is due for a return. The talent is there, you just have to listen a little more to your creative people than to your accountants.
@JebbyStudio Maybe it's because the finance guys pay attention to the numbers, and see there's more demand for affordability than luxury. Now is not the time to build a super expensive hotel no one can afford to go to.
We just love All Star Movies and to me, this new resort is really going to be similar in a lot of ways (when it comes to the reasons we enjoy it). I'm psyched for it and we'll definitely be staying there on our next trip!
How bout we get a Walt Era film in ths... Lion King and Lil Mermaid are ok i dont know bout those pixar films...would love to see other films... just 1 Walt Era film
Although it would have been nice to see some walt era movie films, The All Star Movie Resort has a lot more classic films for guests. The reason they chose these films is to attract the littleies. Also it is the ART ANIMATION resort, hence the films with more focused art backgrounds etc.
This is so exciting! My sister's dream is to be a Disney Animator and since she's never been to Disneyworld I think I'm going to have to get her to stay at this resort when we finally get there
This property was actually going to be an extension of the value resort Pop Century, named the Legends wing spanning the years 1900-1940. But the project was canceled and the buildings lay dormant for a long time.
This new hotel will be right next door to Pop Century, connected by a bridge across the lagoon.
Because it's location is the farthest from the theme parks, it better be a Value Resort. Or else it won't be worth the money to stay there.
Even though disney makes adults feel younger again, their main goal is to focus on the children, so they can't design stuff around movies and shows that were on before they were even born. But it would be cool
@tylerj19797 Totally disagree with you. The next time you're at a Disney theme park, look at the costumes the kids wear. 1937's Snow White, 1950's Cinderella, 1959's Sleeping Beauty. Children today are familiar with the classics because they're available for purchase on DVD. So they will never be outdated.
@snowwhite923 I'm a kid, not a 3 year old like my brother who likes bright colors. But I am 14, and I'd rather see Snow White and maybe even some old Mickey cartoon animations that really brought out the feel of older cartoons instead of pixar stuff. I really like the older stuff and they could've made the classic Disney films very cool into a resort. I know they could've.But as a kid, they can do ANYTHING cool, honestly. But I really would've liked to see some earlier films instead of this.
