  • Everyone must realise, although pontiac's are (in most peoples opinion) a better car to choose of the two, Buick provided GM with more revenue, as it is sold to the wider public, mainly china.

  • even if it is more aerodynamic.. i'd rather have the late second gens over the third.. but i'd have a pontiac over buick anyday.

  • GM should have never dropped Pontiac. They should have dropped Buick!

  • other than a scrapyard anyone know wherer i can get a shifter knob from an 82 like this for an automatic??

  • @ambspier have you tried ebay? They have some right now.

  • I agree with you guys about getting rid of Pontiac!! Pontiac had so many great cars and the idiots that be are going to get rid of a company with such a rich storied history!? Totally stupid!! Long live Pontiac!!

  • I always thought those bowling ball hubcaps looked stupid.

  • Nah they should of gotten rid of that crappy saturn. Buick and Pontiac are a legend plain and simple.

  • @mastermind48451 they DID get rid of Saturn! But GM had to keep Buick because it's a hugely successful brand in China and would have looked bad to the Chinese consumer if their favorite American brand was killed off in its homeland..... makes sense on an international level, but not to us here in the good ol' USA! Rest in peace....

  • PONTIAC FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This commercial illustrates how influential the movie Tron was to mainstream populace at the time.

  • '

    no thank,,,

    i dont like this car

  • PONTIAC FOREVER!!!

  • What a slug of a car 0-60 in 20 mins

  • I love how much the 80's wanted to be all future like. I wonder what Pontiac would have made if it ever did reach the futuristic "flying car era"?

  • That was awesome car. R.I.P. Pontiac. This car has a 350 hp and acceleration 0-100 km/h about 4.8 seconds.

  • @TheAmbience1992 I hope your being sarcastic. the 1982 Firebird Trans Am never have 350 HP its had about 175 HP from its 5.0L V8 and did 0-60 in about 7.5 to 8 seconds.

  • The excitement of a 175 hp engine? No thanks ill take a 1968 ram air with 400.

  • Pontiac: We Build...EXCITEMENT!

  • Best Car Ever Built!

  • "K.I.T.T." in the making!

  • Damn, that's some amazing CGI for 1982!

And the thing about Pontiac being dumped over Buick: Buick sells incredibly well in China for some reason, so it looks like GM is thinking in the long-term by possibly bringing over Chinese-market designs to the US in the future. Pontiac was going nowhere everywhere and GM was/is in a crisis, so that's why they killed it. RIP Pontiac :(

  • im glad they dumped pontiac....they should also cut buick or make a new grand national.its not like pontiac has made any realy sporty cars since like 1990.

  • i can t understand wy pontiac is gone.if pontiac doing allright or did if had appealing types wy is it pontiac is gone just don t understand

  • @koioo2 the last Grand Am was a piece of crap

  • @LaugermanPROductions ain't that the truth.

  • what a appealing car

  • evry day i watch this and cry in my heart trans am is gone and the pontiac

  • Whoa....how did they do that 3D CGI effect at 0:07-0:010? Was it actual CGI or totally hand-drawn?

  • It also has the black K.I.T.T Hub caps or wheels, not sure which they were. But I've not seen them on any other bird but kitt.

  • @cubx1979 These were the wheels the 1982 Trans Ams came with. 14" was standard but if you ordered the WS6 package you got the same wheels in 15". The black hubcaps came off quite easily (I had a few replaced under warranty), which is the reason they abandoned them for 1983.

  • @Pintac87 i though it was 84 when they abandoned those hubcaps. My old Daytona 500 Pace car edition had them and it was a 83.

  • My favorite too, thanks to KITT. :) Paint it black like KITT and there you go..much better. :)

  • I fell in love with this car back in 1983-1985! It was my dream car!

  • I LOVE these video graphics and sound effects and futuristic synth electronic music! Perfect! Thats what I wanted to see and hear!

Its so interesting that the style of the 80's for the most part was about futurism and technology forward thinking. Now, you have all these lame emotional hokey earth/green commercials, but yet we want our gadgets...and we tweet. Where did we go wrong? When?

  • @wendileona Hey yeah couldnt agree with you more. I know exactly where we went wrong. a) Political Correctedness b) Sooky people in society who just want other people to hear them have a whinge about everything and say "oh yeah thats how I feel too, isnt it just shocking...". If only we could have continued on the path of the 80's........

  • Great commercial. I will be a Firebird man til I die.

  • This commmecial is like a sci-fi movie, I love it.

  • love these cars they werent super fast back then but pretty much everything else about them is awesome

  • I own a 89 gta t/a with a 350 some mild hop ups chip ,headers and plenum tubes.The car rocks .

  • I thought knight Rider was the commercial the Firebird in the 80's.

  • Schrott!!

  • junk comercail for junk cars anything after 81 was hopeless

  • The music and the nerd in the first few seconds of the commercial are a bit weird!

  • I remember how cool these and the camaro were back in 82. They looked fast but they wern't.The 305 v8 with crossfire injection was only cranking out 165 hp and it was a dog 0-60 in 10 seconds The 82 mustang gt 5.0 with 157 hp was faster so gm ditched it for the 4 bbl carb 305 (h.o) which was put out 190 hp which made a nice improvement in performance.

  • The 5.0`s are really slow.

  • The Firebird Girl was HOT !!! What ever happened to her?

  • Knight rider :-)

  • This mesmerized when I was 7. Now I just feel fooled, like the tooth fairy.

  • Camman, I find it hard to believe an 82 GM had power enough to twist the frame. That V8 was what, 145 hp back then? What you mean is your tweaking the car with a different motor too I assume, as you said you spent thousands, resulted in an unstable car. That doesn't mean GM screwed up. They didn't eff with your car. Car companies are not there to supply 12 second cars. That's why they car classified as passenger vehicles. Why anyone ever expects differently and complains is just goofy.

  • Create a car that conquer the wind ROFL!

  • I`m sorry but I`m not american. Don`t you say, create a car that conquers the wind other than conquer the wind??????

  • I owned an 82 Firebird and after ripping it completely apart and taking the body to bare metal I can tell you that GM screwed up. If you stomped on the gas the frame would twist and the motor would come up and hit the hood. I did get mine to run 11.8 seconds in a quarter mile but that took over $4000 and it still kept breaking parts. Also the int was real slap together crap.

  • That 305 sbc those cars came with had even LESS power than the 301's!!! I can believe you spent 4k on it trying to get that sbc to get out of it's own way! sbc' are junk.

  • thats my favorite car, its just too bad they dont meke them like that anymore

  • 2001 Formula, Pontiac for life!!!!!

  • ajjajajaaajaajjaja

  • I thought micheal night was coming out to sponsor this commercial

  • lol

  • GM made half their profit off Pontiac than Buick why didn't GM shut down Buick GM only needs one Granny car Division Cadillac

  • I agree, Pontiac is much better than Buick. Pontiac Forever!!!!

  • Yeah Buick is just granny slow cars!

  • @f90bird said part is bui8ck regal is opel isgnia

wy would buick bring copy of a european car could t they design them self

  • Na, Buicks are nice, just thinking of the 80`s GNX and Grand National models.

  • lol

  • Im so pissed that theyre getting rid of Pontiac!! That was the worst move GM has ever made!!!!

  • You've got to admit thought that most of Pontiac's recent lineup hasn't been terribly impressive. One of their models is just a warmed-up Daewoo, and another one is basically a Holden. It's no wonder that the brand's been failing.

  • yeah definately, i saw plans for a 2010 trans am and i was so pissed when i found out they arent gonna do it now.

  • @AngusYoungBiggestFan it has to do with the follow the last ceo manager of pontiac

killed all the cars that where succsesful.she made azetek was a flop.than came holden cars in stead.G6 and G8.no one want them.than they close pontiac.that what i understand.and the bail outs

  • Too bad it took them I dunno...20 years to make a good looking car again; too little too late.

    *enjoys this little gem*

  • This commercial reminds me greately of Tron...

too bad Pontiac is to be no more after this model year...

  • Tell me about it....I'm so mad!!!

  • This & GMC RTS were high tech back then.

  • slow

  • I love the buck rogers future tech air of the early 80's

  • Awesome commercial and still looks good to this day.

  • knight rider KITT is better.

  • that voice is the same guy that voices darth vader...Sounds like James Earl Jones.

  • thats not who it was at all, Mr. knowitall. So much for your claim to that title

  • That is the voice of Richard Basehart

  • STILL A CLASSIC! Thanks for posting.

  • i love this car

  • This is my first car! I got it in the summer of 07'

  • <333 i was born in the wrong decade

  • Me too, born a decade late.

  • The 80's are so cool

  • Tron Meets Knight Rider...Sort of,LOL..

    Thanks for the flashback!

  • The interior also has very specific telltale signs that this is a 1983, not a 1982. The steering wheel is the 1983+ design, as well as the shifter. And that's just the little I can see in the split second they show the interior.

  • Not sure when the commercial came out, but in 1982 the tach needle (and all gauge needles) were white. This car in the video has the orange needles and looks more like a 1983 to me.

  • Very astute. The "1982" refers to the release year of the commercial, not the car.

  • @wuzzygonedoo Yeah, it's not an '82. The shift lever for an '82 was the last year the button was on the top of the selector.

  • Wasn't this commercial the work of Robert Abel & Associates??? They were also behind several other dazzling commercials from the 70's & 80's with their early cgi work. They were even the geniuses behind Tron.

  • I did not think the comments were posting. Keep my post just below this but please delete the other 2. Thanks

  • I have to approve them yo.

  • was this the work of Robert Abel & Associates???

  • Wait a minute, does this mean you have a 1982 ABC airing of Superman that's not a multiple-generation dupe?

  • uh... I guess so.

  • I love Firebirds and have always owned them. Got to love the Tron-era computer graphics!

  • Gotta love the vt100 sitting on the guy's desk

  • was there ever a commercial for the formula?

  • I like it!I've got an '89:D

  • this is a great video

i love the 80s body styles

    i have an 88

  • Haha, it looks like the car is driving through the movie TRON

  • LOL I thought the same thing. Wasn't '82 the year Tron was released?

  • Indeed.

  • I believe this commercial was the work of Robert Abel & Associates, who were the brains behind TRON.

  • woah i want a firebird now, this commercial is way better then the ones they have these days

  • I am obsessed with the 82-84 trans am's, they are so futuristic compared today's cars and the commercial is absolutely amazing!

  • I well remember this commercial. I fell in LOVE with the Trans Am when I saw it!!!!!!!!!!

  • hey. please watch my videos and comment them and rate them if you have time.

  • Okay.

  • dude those computer graphics were actually not bad for 82'

  • Huhm ... I thought the "We build excitement" started later, I don't remember seeing it once until at least my junior year in HS - 1984/85 (it was the biggest in the mid 80s). But apparently it was around a little earlier -- came out at the same time of this brand new 82 TA bodystyle (that would be an appropriately matched phrase for the new computer cars, I guess). This must have been one of the first times the phrase was used, or maybe even the very first time.

  • i still have my trans am!

but mine is a 87 GTA

i should turn it into a kitt replica

  • The base engine, on the base Firebird that year, was a 2.5 litre, 4 cyl. which pumped out a scorching 90 h.p. This commercial reminds me of the movie "Tron", which also debuted in '82.

  • yea, 90 ponies, the v8s on the t/a's that year had 165 horses and 240 lbs or torque

  • That commercial was SO 80's LOL...

Equal parts Knight Rider and Tron!

  • Pontiac Firebird is cool!!!

  • classic commercial. 80s commercials made you want to buy things, todays commercials make you want to take a pee break or change the channel...

  • Yes! a DEC VT100!

  • my mom when i was a kid in the '90's had a '86 firebird V6 that was ok. I remember saying mommy, mommy get a trans am!!!

  • I own a 1989 Firebird Formula 350. Man I love this car. Bought her new too. KITT and my brother in law's 1968 red convertable Fbird is why I love these cars. GM..BRING BACK THE BIRD!

  • Amazing designed back in the 80's it still stands up against cars today! Shame Pontiac designs cars for OAPS now.

  • that`s how all the sportscars should look.

  • Greatest car on the world!

  • Must be subliminal when I don't remember this commercial - I got a firebird soon after - this advertising stuff really works!

  • KIT is born!

  • you mean KITT or KARR?

  • Gorgeus "80´s hi-tech" ad. I miss these kind of commercials. Thank you very much.

  • You're welcome.

  • Now I have seen the future

  • Yeah, kinda like watching Tron.

  • Should of put it on the game grid. -_-

  • I want that Firebird in the games until it dies playing!

  • I thank you for the video. I do not remember that one, but it was nice to see. I added it to my favorites.
