How about placing the cam in front of the keyboard and have it detect mouse motions from your fingers with minimal distance from the keyboard. The point is to be able to control a mouse pointer without having to move your hands to a mouse area.

Also, the rubber tips shouldn't go all around the finger. Simple dots ought to do.
