What a deal. The US Gov sends troops to die and fight a limited war which they could have won in 6 weeks, while at the same time allowing US Companies to sell the material to the Soviet Union to make the weapons like this to rain down hell on our troops. May the politicians and government leaders especially McNamara, Johnson and NIxon all rot in hell for allowing this to go on. God bless the poor soulsnwho had to do their bidding.

Was at DaNang from March, 67 to March 68. They hit us mostly with the 122mm but occasionally used the 140mm. Wasn't very fond of either.

I agree they were still using 122mm rockets when I was there in 70-71. You have to remember this is a propaganda film from the time. Trying to stir up the folks at home to support the domino theory. At that time Soviet = The devil

To@allenethanm: I was there during that first attack in early 1967 and they were using 140mm Russian rockets (Katyushas, I believe). I was sleeping in one of those 2-story cinder block/stucco buildings and the shrapnel went right through the walls like a hot knife through butter. In subsequent attacks during 1967 and early 1968, they used 122mm rockets. Fun in RVN!

@50poiuyt : You were 16 years old in 1967. I doubt that you know very much of what was going on and why. Your comments certainly show that, because they contain nothing but communist propaganda. The "Yanks" were not invaders, nor did they do all of those things that you said. The North Vietnamese were the invaders and the Viet Cong were traitors to their country. I have seen communism (what you probably call socialism) in more places than Vietnam, and always, always it enslaved the people.

@50poiuyt : I know Vietnamese history quite well, and I have no love for the French colonists. And yes, because the French were our allies in WW!!, we helped them some, which was stupid. The big problem was that Ho Chi Minh and the Viet Minh were part of the Communist Party of VN - and communists tried to take over country after country. As I said earlier, more than a million came to the South from the North and many more would have come if the North had not stopped them. Communism = plague.

Besides, as I understand it, the Vietnamese people wanted independence and freedom; not necessarily communism - and many Vietnamese KNEW that they did not want communism.

Without that "democracy" is mob rule. Did HoChi Minh and his people respect the rights of those who did not want him? Does the Vietnam government today respect the rights of the minority? Can the people of Vietnam today have truly free elections and can realistically change their government? Why do many want and did escape?

@50poiuyt : Yes, I have my answer, and I think that you do too. Whatever we did in Vietnam, we did not, repeat, NOT fight against freedom and democracy. We fought to salvage whatever freedom you had, because one thing was certain: Ho Chi Minh, Vo Nguyen Giap and all those communists were not going to give you any freedom. All they wanted was power - and so did their bosses in Moscow. You knew, I hope, that that is from where "Uncle Ho " got his instructions.

@50poiuyt : Any "land reform" that lasts for a number of years and results in some 200,000 people murdered and 40,000 put in concentration camps, can hardly be called a "mistake". Nobody can be considered great leader who does that to his own people. Of course, his "role model", Josif Vissarionovich Dzhugashvili, a.k.a. Stalin, rose to a much higher "greatness" - he managed to murder more than 20,000,000 of his own people.

@50poiuyt : I looked at several sources in Wikipedia: Lam Thanh Liem, Bernard Fall, Nguyen Minh Can, Hoang Van Chi. They ALL say that tens and maybe hundreds of thousands were killed during "land reform". Normally, land reform happens when land belongs to a few rich estates, which are then mostly split up amongst the people. In Vietnam the communists took land AWAY from the people! Typical of communism.. And now, of course, you can have free elections and change the government, right?
