What a deal. The US Gov sends troops to die and fight a limited war which they could have won in 6 weeks, while at the same time allowing US Companies to sell the material to the Soviet Union to make the weapons like this to rain down hell on our troops. May the politicians and government leaders especially McNamara, Johnson and NIxon all rot in hell for allowing this to go on. God bless the poor soulsnwho had to do their bidding.
I'll never forget that night! Holy cow! I was on Red Beach and heared the huge explosion and saw the huge mushroom cloud....something you can never forget.
Ho chi Minh, Vietnam's communist founder, is a disguting TRAITOR and MURDERER. He was a member of the Third Communist International established in 1919 by Lenin. He gave up Paracel & Spratly archipelagos with large oil resources to Red China. He even ordered to murder his own mistress named Nong thi Xuan when she threatened to disclose her sexual relationship with him since that would destroy his image as a "Father" of Vietnam who "sacrifices" his whole life for Vietnam revolution.
I agree they were still using 122mm rockets when I was there in 70-71. You have to remember this is a propaganda film from the time. Trying to stir up the folks at home to support the domino theory. At that time Soviet = The devil
To@allenethanm: I was there during that first attack in early 1967 and they were using 140mm Russian rockets (Katyushas, I believe). I was sleeping in one of those 2-story cinder block/stucco buildings and the shrapnel went right through the walls like a hot knife through butter. In subsequent attacks during 1967 and early 1968, they used 122mm rockets. Fun in RVN!
@50poiuyt : You were 16 years old in 1967. I doubt that you know very much of what was going on and why. Your comments certainly show that, because they contain nothing but communist propaganda. The "Yanks" were not invaders, nor did they do all of those things that you said. The North Vietnamese were the invaders and the Viet Cong were traitors to their country. I have seen communism (what you probably call socialism) in more places than Vietnam, and always, always it enslaved the people.
@50poiuyt : What you call "impudence" actually is more knowledge of the world as it is. I have seen Europe, North America, Caribbean, and Asia. Why would the "Yanks" invade Vietnam? They do not need Vietnam. They were simply trying to help the people of Vietnam who didn't want a communist dictatorship. When Vietnam was partitioned into North and South, why did so many people come South? Why do you think there are so many Vietnamese in USA and other countries? They don't want dictatorship
@dzevi01 If you did not know anything about Vietnam history, rather you do not babble on internet like imbecile. You Yanks helped French in their first Indochina war to enslave Vietnamese, but French were defeated.Vietnam war was continuing of French war with your dirty hand only.If you did not block general election to unification Vietnam in 1956 according to Geneva agreement 1954,the war did not happen, because 80% of Vietnamese will support Ho Chi Minh.Your hypocrisy make people sick.
@50poiuyt : I know Vietnamese history quite well, and I have no love for the French colonists. And yes, because the French were our allies in WW!!, we helped them some, which was stupid. The big problem was that Ho Chi Minh and the Viet Minh were part of the Communist Party of VN - and communists tried to take over country after country. As I said earlier, more than a million came to the South from the North and many more would have come if the North had not stopped them. Communism = plague.
@50poiuyt : I would agree with you, except that, if communism advanced far enough, as it was trying to do, it very quickly would become our business. Besides, as I understand it, the Vietnamese people wanted independence and freedom; not necessarily communism - and many Vietnamese KNEW that they did not want communism.
@50poiuyt : That the people have the right to choose their government. There is one big BUT, however, and that is that the rights of the minority also must be protected. Without that "democracy" is mob rule. Did HoChi Minh and his people respect the rights of those who did not want him? Does the Vietnam government today respect the rights of the minority? Can the people of Vietnam today have truly free elections and can realistically change their government? Why do many want and did escape?
@dzevi01 In Vietnam you fought against democracy and freedom of Vietnam nation, that's why you did not reach any goal, while communists did.Ask millions of Mexicans, why they must escape from their country to USA,you will have reply to your question.I hear USA will banish some people return to Vietnam too
@50poiuyt FOR VC CRIMINAL WAR 50POIUYT: Communist criminal, defends the communist military dictatorship of the Vietnam. Either man in the life and goes to defend the human rights and the democracy in the Vietnam. You and Pol Pot of Cambodia are murderous cowards, who live in the luxury and the people of the Vietnam lives in the Misery and the dictatorship.
@50poiuyt : Yes, I have my answer, and I think that you do too. Whatever we did in Vietnam, we did not, repeat, NOT fight against freedom and democracy. We fought to salvage whatever freedom you had, because one thing was certain: Ho Chi Minh, Vo Nguyen Giap and all those communists were not going to give you any freedom. All they wanted was power - and so did their bosses in Moscow. You knew, I hope, that that is from where "Uncle Ho " got his instructions.
@dzevi01 Ho Chi Minh,Vo Nguyen Giap and their friends were the best leaders we have to this day .it was generation of leaders, that fought and died for independent of Vietnam nation from France, their credit of this is always in tribute of us,though they fell into a mistake in "land reform "that was cause of death many innocent people, among them were also communists. For what power is,when all of them had nothing?Relation between Vietnam-SSSR in the past wasn't relation master- servant.Never.
@50poiuyt : Any "land reform" that lasts for a number of years and results in some 200,000 people murdered and 40,000 put in concentration camps, can hardly be called a "mistake". Nobody can be considered great leader who does that to his own people. Of course, his "role model", Josif Vissarionovich Dzhugashvili, a.k.a. Stalin, rose to a much higher "greatness" - he managed to murder more than 20,000,000 of his own people.
@dzevi01 the numbers that you written, are numbers for anti-communist propaganda in USA only. The media made monsters of communists, and you Americans believe in their propaganda, how one Viet Vet said in Vietnam TV.You can read other source, for example Wikipedia to see,how true is.Only 1-2% of this number ,but Vietnamese forgave them for their selfsacrifice in the fight for independent of Vietnam.Thousands of them were killed by French .The confidence of Vietnamese in the communists knew Eisenhower
@50poiuyt ...when he said in 1956 :If election happened,80% of Vietnamese will support Ho Chi Minh.Vietnamese believed in communists and considered you to be aggressors ,that's why they fought hard and you could not win to them. They are right.
@50poiuyt : I looked at several sources in Wikipedia: Lam Thanh Liem, Bernard Fall, Nguyen Minh Can, Hoang Van Chi. They ALL say that tens and maybe hundreds of thousands were killed during "land reform". Normally, land reform happens when land belongs to a few rich estates, which are then mostly split up amongst the people. In Vietnam the communists took land AWAY from the people! Typical of communism.. And now, of course, you can have free elections and change the government, right?
@dzevi01You do not know what was "Land reform" and "collectivization".The negative side of those experience was knowing early, that's why every one think that communist go in right way now and supports them.

Was at DaNang from March, 67 to March 68. They hit us mostly with the 122mm but occasionally used the 140mm. Wasn't very fond of either.
