I'm not going to lie, I live in Palm Beach, Florida... Which is pretty damn nice by American standards, but it doesn't look like Atlanta's economy is doing too bad, plus I can get 3x the house that I can here...
It's really making me consider making a trip to look at moving... and this video sure helped. lol
I cannot wait to move there! I'll be going to Georgia Tech. I've always loved visiting Atlanta with its huge freeways and amazing buildings. Never been around Hartsfield, though. Great video!
It's a great city to drive through at night, but 75 needs a solid 70mph speed limit like in FL. 55mph with 6 lanes in each direction sucks(not like i obey anyway)
Great video! We love to see people enjoying their infrastructure, both day and night.
We embedded this on Show Us Your Infra! on InfrastructureUSA and added it to our YouTube playlist. If there's anything else you'd like to share with the infrastructure community, please don't hesitate to join us at InfrastructureUSA!
I find it so baffling how Atlanta has developed over the years. It's also exciting to compare the skylines, infrastructural projects and advancements among others from the past to what we have today with the help of historical photographs. The city bestows upon everybody the collective thinking of the country's engineers.
You ought to get Downtown Atlanta, Midtown/Atlantic Station in the same video as the entire Buckhead Skyline, the Sandy Springs (Perimeter) Skyline, and the Cobb Galleria (Cumberland) Skyline. Very good video btw!!
I must say that in Poland we need maximum 4 lanes - and only near capital Warsaw on A2 highway. But you have 7 lanes in each direction and they are full all the time - even in the night. Very impressive freeways.
@kubsonpl Atlanta definitely has some of the more impressive freeways in the US. The curves, hills, and insane amount of lanes creates a thrilling driving experience.
@bluemoon95: I'm pretty sure Nevada State Route 171 in Las Vegas (also a short freeway) also goes directly underneath one of the runways at McCarren Int'l Airport, but this is way more impressive, with the pure number of lanes along I-285.
I am so grateful that someone has the time and talent to put together a work like this one. Being a road/highway enthusiast and having lived in North Georgia for 3+ years, this video brought back fond memories. As the title of one of the late Lewis Grizzard's books put it, "If I Ever Get Back to Georgia, I'm Gonna Nail My Feet to the Ground."
@CptSchmidt: Sup! FreewayJim did the driving, while CosmoPhotography did the filming and editing on this one. Cosmo and I teamed up last year for a Los Angeles night video, except he drove my car and I operated the camcorder in the passenger seat. He ended up doing all the editing, as well.
Man, Evan. You're going to put all of us road filmers to shame, if you keep coming out with masterpieces like these. This is beyond excellent. The views along the Downtown Connector along I-75/I-85 really speaks for itself, but the fact that there's also as many as 16 lanes, makes it quite possibly the most exhilarating downtown freeway to drive in the U.S. I could go on and on about this video, but I'm just going to keep it short and say it's going straight to my favorites list.
@FreewayBrent Thank you so, so much, Brent! I can say without hesitation that the Connector is my favorite overall road in the US for a multitude of reasons such as the ones you listed. Like Jim, I've also learned a lot from you as well. One reason why I love watching your videos so much is because of all of the detailed information you put in them. I've learned so much about different areas of the country from watching your videos.
@FreewayBrent (cont.) My friends consider me the go-to source for information on most any city in the US, and I owe a lot of it to you through what I've learned in your videos. Thank you again, Brent!
@WhatWouldJesusDo1000 I used Apple's Final Cut Express and Final Cut Pro for this video. I add all of the signs and postcard photos in through LiveType.
@hawkeye52353 Thanks!! I have one more video that I shot with Jim of Peachtree Street at night through Midtown and Downtown. The footage looks really awesome, and I can't wait to get to work on it.
@ScrewdUPClickV2 Outside of New York and Chicago, Atlanta is my favorite skyline. While some people don't like how spread out it is, I believe that is what gives it character and makes it stand out from its peers. Thank you, Brian!
@GeoffJennyOliver Geoff, thank you so much for all of the great exposure and compliments. It really means a lot to me to read comments like yours from a professional such as yourself. Thank you again!
Hey ,Freewayjim ,your video is wonderful ! Traveling this way is a great pleasure ! And one of my french friends live in Marietta ,i'am moved ! Thanks again !
I love travel but Atlanta will always be the place I come back to. Every city has a vibe of its own. Driving through gives me the most indescribable rush, as if everything is happening in slow motion. And having Kaskade only makes it more epic. I can't fully describe the feeling this gives me.
Yeah that pretty much covers it, lol. We had a blast getting all that footage and Evan did an OUTSTANDING job putting it all together. I'm certainly proud to have my name attached to this awesome piece of work but Evan deserves all the credit.
@Freewayjim We sure did! I owe a lot (if not all) of what I've learned in editing to this great man here. I've been watching Jim's videos since I was 14 years old before I even had a license. While never actually meeting in person until a year ago, he instilled in me a passion for attention to detail and visually pleasing yet awe-inspiring editing techniques. He is one of the nicest guys anyone could know, and I enjoyed myself and his great company while riding through this great city.
Now that was a phenomenal video. Very clear and informative. Didn't care for the music, but, other than that, I loved it. Great job. You two should do some more.
@casmatori Thanks! I've never heard that comparison before, but I kind of agree with it. A lot of southerners call it the "New York of the South," but Atlanta does not resemble anything in New York whatsoever. haha
