I like hip hop where the production is unique, like Outkast was, and where the rapper puts alot of creativity and thought into his or her lyrics. I actually really like 80's pop hits. But I think one of the reasons behind this is the perpetual downfall of the music industry. Too me, music today is pretty shitty, and getting shittier. Composing requires creativity, which is the biggest issue with sampling. You just hear something you like and you sample it. That's very artistic (sarcasm).

Hip Hop was an independent cultural movement that like everything in this country was seized upon by corporations that recognized it's popularity and profitability.
If progressive concepts sold like the tried and true misogyny, violence and decadence then the music would change but it doesn't.

I know Mcs who have tried to make it in the business but were rejected because of the content of their lyrics. That fact that they didn't talk about drugs, guns, hoes and money meant they didn't get signed.

I love songs about weed, hoes and cars, but how about something a little more poetic or mind-expanding? If someone is going to cover the same ol' topics, they at least need to try harder and stand out more.

you don't need to listen to shit-hop to do sampling or have something other than certain chordes played. there is amazing electro music and a ton of amazing 80s synth music.
anyway shit-hop sales are down 45% since 2004. google it if you don't believe me.
kids today want something more. sure a few retards will still listen to it because mtv pumps it out, in fact they seem to be the only ones pumping it out. no wonder mtv sucks these days.
