the russians (USSR at the time) and the US fought on the same side in WW2, after the war, the soviets tried to take over occupied berlin. because the soviets were communist, the USA went to war with them. this was not an actual gun battle (hot war) it was a war of arguments (cold war), which sometimes led to small gun battles. because it was still classed as a war, yes, americans and russians did go to war.
