"you be alone in the night with your arms reaching out just to hold me tight

you be alone on your own..."

i think it it was a B side

    thanks x

  • I`m sure Amy Winehouse could do a cracking version of this song.

  • @633squadrongoodwin

I'm sorry but Amy Winehouse could never match Yvonne Baker to do it any justice. Some things are best left just the way they are!

  • @Nalawole Yeh, fair point, on reflection you are spot on.

Nice to see that this is on Cameo Parkway. Makes me wonder what else besides the great Bunny Sigler singles that I have get as full as this. Dig the James Bond angle too! Thanks!

  • great tune oo7 northern soul ktf

  • Note to bobblehead67:

For generations UK fans have *always* been far more reverential & respectful to the *classic* R&B artistes than Stateside folk have..

But *this* gem was new to me back in 1994..after a trip to, of all paces, Iceland..And I'm a CHICAGOAN(!)...so don't feel bad.

Anecdote: When I first heard it, I spent *months* looking over my shoulder...hopin' a gunbarrell wasn't followin' me like in the James Bond film openings. LOL!

    This tune is a GAS!

    Thanx fer it, m8's...

  • Have you heard Yvonne Baker's version of "I Can't Change" with the Sensations on Junior? or "My Baby Loves Me" on Modern? Both worth checking out.

  • I have to say " I can`t change" is probably my favourite track by Yvonne and The Sensations, many thanks for the comments, much appreciatrd.

  • HOW is it y'all in Britain got hip to this great stuff that I've NEVER heard here in the US?

I've been checking out one "Northern Soul" tune after another on youtube, and each one's better than the last--and I've never heard of any of them!

Prophets without honor here in the States, I tell ya! Thanks for teaching me a little of my own country's music history!

  • Hi, That`s it, you have discovered the greatest music in the world, and you are now gonna be hooked for life, lol. Once you start digging there is no turning back, you just have to find another and another.............. Many thanks for the comment, much appreciated. ktf

  • It's like a narcotic....addictive.

  • Lol .. sorry bobblehead67 i meant to give you a thumbs up and accidently clicked the wrong thumb .. Anyway .. once you've heard this music you never stop loving it .. Enjoy your new discovery .. *****

  • @bobblehead67 BECAUSE WE ALL WENT TO A PLACE CALLED WIGAN CASION ,IN THE 70,S YOU SHOULD READ ABOUT THIS PLACE

  • @bobblehead67 G'day mate and English bloke in Australia here. I spent the best years of my life listening to American soul music that never made it stateside. Thats what we loved about it, rare souls, our music, our love. Look up some of the US artists that made Northern England their home. Your interest will take you on a long and eventful journey and once what we call Northern Soul has touched you, the mark remains forever.

Keep the faith or KTF as we say. Happy hunting. Mike

  • @bobblehead67 it's an interesting point about authenticity and communicability. It was the Stones and Beatles and other Brit invasion bands who all borrowed so much from blues records and old rock n roll also.

  • @TheBirdBrothers Great comment, but it doesn`t scratch the surface of what was "borrowed" from the genius of Willie Dixon and so many others at the time. Let`s keep the music and memories alive to honour their genius. KTF.

  • @bobblehead67 you should check the dancing to put in wigan casion dancing see what we all up to 30 odd years ago and still dancing now l am sure you will enjoy it too

  • Really takes me back to St Ives & Peterborough in the earl 80's.

    Many thanks

    Deano.

  • Many thanks for the comment, so glad this classic still brings back great memories for you.

  • A memory that will last forever, many thanks for taking the time to comment.

  • absolute maagic. proper northern. brings me right back! top top tune on its own merits..

  • Thanks for the comment, I agree with you, the magic of the music we love is plain to see with this fantastic track.

  • Whilst this is the more common version, still think Patti Austin's vers from the early 70s has the edge and was the more popular play at the Mecca

  • Will have to listen to Patti`s cover of this , many thanks for the info. and comment.

  • perhaps its more down to individual taste : in contrast at the Mecca some prefered Yvonne's vers with it being the original : Patti's was a great cover version - but Yvonnes forms one of the foundations pieces of Northern Soul . I think we can all enjoy both great slices of good Soul

  • To be played to all who say 'What's Northern........' it doesn't get much better or more classic......Ktf

  • Many thanks for commenting on this classic sound, much appreciated.

  • here here jack xx

  • Is that good ? lol, hope that means you enjoyed this great old sound, a Northern favourite. Thanks for the comment.

  • I need a time machine!!!!!!!!!!!

  • you can just see james bond with his gun in the silloette lol. but wot a song memories of the casino floodin back!!!! pure brilliance.if only i could turn back the clock

  • "SAMPLED BY THE ROULETTE REGIME"

  • "SAMPLED BY THE ROULETTE REGIME"??

Then they should hang them from the highest lampost...

  • A brilliant sound I first heard at Wigan casino in 1974

  • LOL

Maybe they should just use this track and make the film watchable if only for the music.

  • still lovin this song!! lets hope the bond movie isnt as bad as the last one!

  • the bond theme was blatantly sampled from this song..despite them saying it wasnt it has to be..what a great song!!

  • Shaken or stirred ? Glad you love this, its a cracker !!!!!

  • great posting - a heavenly voice

  • Its one of those that, once you know its NOT the intro to a James Bond film (LOL), you start to enjoy the quality of Yvonne`s vocal, pure quality. Many thanks for taking the time to leave a comment.

  • Thanks again Sarah for taking the trouble to leave a comment, glad you love the old Northern classics.

  • oh yes what a track x Sarah
