The thing is people try to "tag" metallica ,they try to push them into something that never changes. Metallica have the guts to do whatever they fucking want. They don't obey rules. They just like to explore, that's the beauty of this band for me. Because they are real musicians.
While Jason may think the song is about mental torture, I find that the song describes the song writing experience of someone who cannot fully express themselves outside of music, and has to "bleed" himself through the music. Thats just my thoughts.
understanding what peoeple claim about the level of song writing between the 80s metallica and the 90s and considering this composition as a very piece of work i gotta go with my feelings and heart and i honestly believe this is purely and simply put the best song they´ve ever written and i get F**** goosebumps every every every single them (.glad to be able to say that i´ve witnessed two fabulous live renditions of this tune......
This is nothing compared to mid-late 80's/early 90's metallica. You really hafta look at them as 2 different bands, different periods, different styles, different members. And if you ask me about the whole mustaine vs. hammett arguement, cliff burton wins because he is the greatest bassist ever.
This is well written. A great piece of music doesn't have to be complicated to be good. A great example of this statement is most of Black Sabbath's music. Overcomplicated music can ruin the atmosphere of a song. This is back to basics, and very solid, which is when Metallica is at it's best. It is great road music while rolling down the road. Well done
James is no doubt the better guitar player.... Every solo and lead Kirk plays has wah on it... He hides behind his wah to cover the fact that he's a marginal guitar player..... Metallica would have been a MUCH better band with Mustaine
@mrdouglas51510 But then Megadeth wouldnt have existed, who are the better band. They may not have as many great songs, but Metallica lost a lot of respect after Load, Reload, and St Anger. Saw the big 4 at Sonis this year, Slayer blew them both away. Hetfield has an awful voice now, Mustaine cant sing live, Tom Araya however still has his voice just like it was 20 years ago.
@Uzurr69 I said it before, and I'll say it again.... SUCK MY FUCKING DICK..... Everybody is entitled to their opinion, and my opinion is Hammett hides behind his wah because he is a marginal guitar player at best AND Metallica would have been a MUCH better band if they would have kept Dave Mustaine..... Have you heard the new Metallica with Lou Reed???.... That is a fucking monstrosity and only a cock smoker like you would like that... See ya loser
@mrdouglas51510 Yeah, i heard Metallica and Lou Reed, it sucks monkey balls. But we are talking about the Load album here, which is an entierely different period. Mustaine is a great shredder, but sometimes he puts too much effort into playing with speed, while lacking feel. His guitar style fitted well with early Metallica, but I can't imagine him playing on Load.
@Uzurr69 While Mustaine's playing or voice isn't as good since he fucked up his wrist and found God listen to any solo on Rust In Peace or Count Down To Extinction and tell me his solo's lack feel..... Metallica should have called the Lou Reed album Load because it's a LOAD of shit they lost me after And Justice For All..... Justice is not only Metallica's best album, but the best album to come out of the 80's
@mrdouglas51510 As for Hetfield vs. Hammet - you could make a case that James is better, but not on this demo.. he clearly didn't put any effort behind that solo. Middle section of Master Of Puppets - now that's a great solo, not this temporary random blues shit here.
And that, my friends is why I think James is a better guitarist than Kirk. Kirk is better technically (i think.. i mean, he's lead for a reason right? x'd) but James' got that feeling. He plays with emotion and that's what I like to hear from a solid metalguitarist ;)
I am a METALLI"fukin"CA FAN AND I LOVE ALL 'TLLICA MUZIK, FROM KILL 'EM ALL TO DEATH MAGNETIC, they are the GREATEST BAND EVER........AND ON THE 7TH DAT GOD CREATED METALLICA
Load is the most under appreciated and underrated album of Metallica's. King Nothing, Bleeding Me, Outlaw Torn, Until It Sleeps. How can any self respecting Metallica fan not love this album.
Its sad that these guys have the talent to produce music like this but the majority of thier fan base have not evolved and learned to appreciate the fact that metallica have evolved. I just wish metallica would go back to producing the kind of music they want to rather than trying to produce music their so called fans demand them to. Death magnetic and St. Anger are terrible albums. IMO Bleeding me is one of the greatest songs they have ever written.
@rbry674 Death Magnetic is a great album & St. Anger being what fans wanted? LOL We are talking about the one that has All Within My Hands & Frantic on it right? People hated that album your one of them i personally loved it it's a great album heavy and in your face saying Metallica is alive and pissed off. It's what they were feeling at the time it's a release for them. Kill 'Em All through Death Magnetic and onward Metallica still kicks ass, kicking ass since '83
The people who complain about Bob Rock aren't Metallica fans and don't know anything. Obviously Metallica wrote these songs without Bob's influence. Bob only took out some good raw parts out of these demos...
Load IS the best album Metallica have produced. Any fan can relate to the lyrics James has written for this album. None of the other albums come close to the depth and emotion James put into this album. This radical emotional change between songs really shows James put his heart and soul into it. As a musician he delivered something of a masterpiece, something that fans could really relate to showing there is alot more to Metallica than just heavy riffs.
@sweetcheeba1 Nothing wrong with that if you feel Load has the deepest lyrics. Most people listen to Metallica though for the music rather than lyrics. For me, all their previous studio albums have better music than Load. But, Load has good music in it, just for a few songs though.
@DIMMUSAKURABA yeah one of the great things about Metallica is that everyone gets something from it. Whether its the lyrics or just the riffs its definately a good thing either way. I just love this album, the guitars sound lovely, the tone sends shivers down my spine whenever I listen to this track. The whole riff complexity and structure is just out of this world. As much as I love all the other albums I don't think any will be as close to perfect as Load for lyrics aswell as guitar.
@sweetcheeba1 Great song, but the riff ain't complex at all... It's just enter sandman recycled. I play guitar, and almost EVERY song on this album and reload all come from the exact same notes, just played differently.
@frankieanime yeah I know. I play guitar too, it's a simple riff. Maybe complex wasn't the best choice of words, was trying to express how deep this song actually is when you compare it to some others, it's incredibly well thought out and produced - James is a real artist on Load and Reload and I just wish we could see this again the balance is perfect. Its a shame they hit their peak and everything else since then hasn't even come close.
@ArtQuakedoom95x4 it does man I agree but the lyrics in this particular tune and most of the others on Load come straight from James. When James and James alone writes lyrics we get these master tracks. Nothing really comes close to the way James captures a particular feeling or emotion and produces lyrics with it. When you watch some kind of monster you see the whole band looking for words that rhyme with one another and then trying to fit a meaning around it. Manufactured anger is what it was
@metallica2901 I SAY THE SAME SHIT, ONLY TRUE FANS LIKE THIS, METALLICA IS THE BEST FUCKIN BAND EVER AND EVERYONE WHO SAYS THE OPPOSITE THING GO AND SUCK THE JONAS BROTHERS PUSSY !!!!
This is probably one of the only post-Black Album songs that stands up with their best material. Some people hate it because it isn't "metal" but a great song is a great song.
I partially agree. Great songs don't necessarily need "double bass fills" or "fast paced riffs" to be great. You can definitely be simplistic and relaxed, and still come up with an awesome song like this one, my personal favorite from Metallica.
the song starts like the glorious ancestors like "fade to black", "Sanatarium" etc.. I really love the keyboards they added after that demo version. But the heavy part is unfortunately not as great than the old school songs, riff is a bit too slow and Lars did not play double bass fills. What a pity it could have been their best song ever. Still a good one though.
im not overly fond of the music they wrote after '93, but Bleeding Me, along with Fuel and Until it Sleeps are the absolute exception to that rule. all three are awesome.
thanks for uploading. does anyone have the radio edit (the 5-6 minute version mentioned above)? if so that would be great if they could upload it as i haven't been a metallica fan long enough to have heard this version. thanks v much.
i kinda like this solo better than the album version too. there are some parts here should remain in the album version especially the one at 6:46 mark.
