As a small boy I remember thinking maturity was a clearly defined line you crossed on, say, your 20th birthday.Suddenly you'd wake up and know everything.
I didn't realise the 'grown ups' were just faking it! lol.
wow! thank you for the sub and that lovely compliment - you know, some people make artsy farsty films and others vlog. I am not a great vlogger - mind goes blank! So I lean towrds artsy fartsy! :)
thanks Syd. I think I took my cue for this video from vloggers like you and Margaret and williefogle. Probably the hardest type of video to do is one that reaches inside!
Its skirt had layers and layers of sheer fabric flowing over it - over time those layers became my veils and scarves and flying ribbons. I will never forget her generosity with her formerly-favorite dancing dress...
Beautiful, moving piece Lesley. Have you heard anything about 'mindfulness'? I relate SO much to what you say about wanting, as a child, to just be older. Only to discover that 'grown up' often simply translated to 'more adept at hiding neurosis'!! ;8)
i used to hide my neuroses quite well - but I'm afraid another phase of life and aging is when you begin having less restraint and don't have the energy to keep up a good front! hehe
Ever since day one, I knew I was going to become a cartoonist. It happened, and I'm glad, but I always felt too old for my years. I've been struggling my whole life to once again become that naive 3 year old who tried all day to put his pants on over his head, and who ate cookies in front of a mirror so it felt like I had 10 cookies instead of 5.
Wow...that is so weird...because I used to rush to my mom's closet and put her clothes on too...in fact I did just yesterday! Hmmm...I think I am aging OK...but sometimes I still want to go see the varmint :)
I have heard about you raiding the thrift stores for womens underwear, I never had you down for a cross dresser! A horse molester, yes, cross dresser no. LOL
I don't think you need the green dress in it's physical form, you have "it" in your mind and heart and aren't we the lucky recipients to have the good fortune to enjoy your talents thru your vids;)
Hiya Cindy - Mattie is fine and well for a doggie who is nearing her 18th birthday. Nowadays she doesn't get out too much but is content holding down the fort and pottering around the house. Right now she is in her bed next to me snoring!!
Was tempted to post a video response. Watching the last section w/ you & puppy I was reminded of that Vanessa Redgrave-y quality, Katharine Hepburn in "Lion in Winter." Wish I could say I liked myself at this age, but I don't. I did a great 42. Virginia Woolfd peaked at 42. Thank God for Carrie Fisher. GREAT VIDEO Lesley (goes w/o saying).
And i wish for you a closet full of green velvet! Its a rich and beautiful texture, went perfect with your thoughts on embracing what we are! Great vid as always Les!
the first day of my course at school we had to write down three things we liked about ourselves. It was a bit of a struggle - one of the things I said (being brave in front of a bunch of teenagers) was '50 and fabulous'. I was surprised that it didn't feel so weird to say that.
My mother was in her twenties when she had that dress. I could have fit into it when I was in my twenties. And now that I have given up high heels, the dress probably would look a bit awkward with hiking boots!
Not to worry though- I saw a green velvet hoody in Matalan the other day! LOL
Lucky you have a sensible older guy around who doesn't draw attention to himself by wearing silly hats on the beach. Or maybe it's the puppy that puts them off the scent! xx
This is a beautiful video. And I can certainly relate. It's bittersweet, growing up. We want it so much and then when we get it, where did our youth go? This is gorgeous. (And great doggy!)
It's easier to be anchored in the present when we're happier with who we are. But the thing is if we stayed anchored in the present, we'd always be happy with who we are. I'm a kid at heart, too.
I finally worked out that strength comes from within. I always had a lot of it but the impetus to use it came from outside pressure to be someone else's ideal. :)
Beautifully done, Mistress of all things! :-) I think it's the You that you've always wanted to be...and I bet you'll be able to find that green velvet dress in a thrift shop near by and live a day in your memory...:-)
I remember the rush to grow up!! It took forever! Now that I'm grown up, the time just whips by!! Maybe I should have spent more time in my present then! :-) xoxoxoxo
You made me think of that bit that Carol Burnett did years ago on her show - a parody of Gone with the Wind where Rhett Butler is coming and Scarlett is desperate to have a new gown and they are destitute from the war - so Mammy makes a dress from the green velvet curtain fabric, complete with tassles and curtain rod. When Rhett comments on her dress, Scarlett (Carol) says ' Oh - just a little something I saw in the window'. ROFL
hahaha! That was my favorite Carol Burnett episode! I laughed until I cried when I saw her coming down the staircase! It was the curtain rod that did it for me! ROFL!!
Your videos are always such a pleasure to watch that I make sure that the room is perfectly quiet before I push "play". If I am enjoying a cup of tea at the same time.... heaven! luv ya Lesley! hugs, Chris
What a beautiful way to encapsulate your thoughts on growing up! While I was in a rush to be in my 20's and 30's I wasn't to keen on turning 40. So to make it exciting, I didn't get a dress to mark the occasion. I had to do something daring and exciting to bring in the new decade of "maturity" ahead of me. I took a flying lesson lol It was GREAT! Exhilarating! Exciting! Scary! and I will never do it again ROFL! I've been holding on to 39 ever since ; P
I was just thinking to day, that I needed to see a LeSaMilano video and poof there you are. I feel I am more of the person I want to be now than ever as well. Aging isn't always a bitch.
It's so lovely that you've found your moment in time. So many are wishing for a past that will never return, or counting their life away towards no solid end. I tell everyone I'm fifty in hopes that they'll say "You hardly look 40" heh. It's looming. I suppose I'll have to bump it to 55 soon ;)
I'm hoping my 'moment' sticks around for a while. I never thought about the angle of fishing for 'you look younger' compliments! LOL Shoot, I think I may have missed some opportunities for freebie ego strokes! LOL
