Congrats on your Mini. A CVT is not a bad trans and it's normal to shudder when first starting out in reverse. Make sure that you have the CVT Fluid changed at 30k, 60k 90k and only use CVT Fluid provided by the Mini Dealer. Do not go with anybody who says they can do it with something other than Factory CVT Fluid.

I would suggest buying an extended warranty online, Google it and read the reviews, most will cover the trans.

What can I do to help prevent failure? My wife just bought a used 06 with only 23000 miles on it after I tried to talk her out of it for months because of the problems they have. I'm very concerned about the cvt because I have heard of failures happening even at low mileage like ours has. We have only had it 1 day and on the drive home there was a point where I reversed and it shuddered pretty bad. Haven't had the heart to tell my wife yet.

oh wow can u please help me i been looking all over the state for someone that can help me i have an 03 and my cvt acts wierd slips out or stays in high gear
